All the people abusing the poster have not had bad experience with the Nigeria Doctors and hospitals. Please, pray not to get sick, pray so your relations or love ones don't sick, all of you should pray to have money for abroad medical trip if not. . . I just loss my Aunt because of what OP is trying to narrate. My Aunt was in the hospital for over 4 days without doctor's attention, patients that needed medical attention were in the hospital and the doctor was busy with political rallies and campaign. She was transferred to another hospital due to lack of care, the diseases had eaten deep the new doctor said it's late and it's a 50-50 chance. It was not up to 4 days she died. My aunt that walk with her legs to the hospital was carried out with a casket. Just like that my Aunty gave up the ghost. Many Nigerian doctors didn't have passion for the career but was forced by their parents and relatives, maybe because of prestige, fame and money. How can a doctor forget about patients but pay so much attention to politics? Greed, corruption, insensitivity, pride is the order of the day. Fellow Nigerians, pray not to get sick because if you do and does not have money for oversea that is when you'll see reality of the Nigeria state. Just pray 7 Likes |

babyosisi: An eye opener it will be indeed, you get what you pay for. Medical care is not cheap anywhere in the world but life is cheap in Nigeria. |

Those criticizing the OP are guilty of the same thing they accuse her of doing. The fact that you, as a doctor, are different from the "typical" Nigerian doctor described or have worked in a hospital different from what was described does not mean that every doctor/hospital in the 36 states across the country is the same as you/yours. You can only speak for yourself, your colleagues, and where you work/have worked. You can't speak on behalf of all doctors in Nigeria just because you all have an "oath" or went through the same system etc. That doesn't mean jack squat. Are all doctors supposed to abide by their code of ethics etc and practice according to the books? Yes. Do all of them do that? No. The reasons have already been listed in previous posts. I was talking to a friend who was a medical doctor in Nigeria about DJDOLA's case and he kept on yelling and disagreeing with me that it was impossible for the hospital to not diagnose the sickness for that long. He didn't know the details and I shared what I gathered from here with him but he vehemently refused like he was even there with the doctors in Nigeria. According to him, there is a certain code that all doctors have to abide by and all. We need to open our eyes and face reality not the ideal. Let us accept that the system is broken. It is still running but definitely not in the most efficient/effective way. Bushdoc has been quite fair in his comments though. He recognizes the shortcomings of the system. Btw, the OP's post might have come off as condescending etc but that should be the least of our worries right now. It is a generalization of the whole Nigerian health sector but it goes to show that something is wrong because what she has described is common in many places. Glean the important points from the post. 3 Likes |

400billionman:what has the poor service delivery of the hospital not got to do with your president? Does he and members if his family receive medical treatment in the country when they are ill? How many progressive countries do you see their president jetting out for common diarrhoea? What changes has your president brought into the health care system of the country since he took over? donodion: Don't insult me with that name TANoid. I don't care what it means. Jonathan is fixing the roads, railways, car industry, airports, then because of one Babyosisi thread on one Nigerian site called Nairaland, one boy starts heaping insults on the President because of the healthcare system that has been a National disaster since 1960. Everything in Nigeria has been comatose even the supply and distribution chain of PMS, GPO and the others. Tell me one thing that was functioning perfectly well before Jonathan assumed leadership from Yaradua. Then Jonathan's tenure now destroyed it. That's the only way I will continue chatting with you. Why is Jonathan now the magician that every Nigerian wants him to perform in 4 years magic that OBJ didn't perform in 8 years, IBB didn't perform in 5 years, Abacha didn't perform in 5 years ? What exactly is you guys beef with Jonathan ? 1 Like |

400billionman: It would be sheer delight to engage you but since you started off in your second paragraph with usual divisonary tactics,"he fixed road,he fixed bridge,he fixed rail barrages in comparison to the thread title, dude you have no debate. So he met healthcare system in coomatose? and what has he done about it? tell us one practicable policy that has improve by one notch, the health sector successfully during his tenure? So for over 4 years he couldnt? then why must he continue? Why must a failed manager of human and material resources continue governance? Nigerians, including myself you refered to as "boy", deserve better than continuing the path of desolation and dearth it is on till present moment. If you have no iota of public administration, management of resources, then your candidate have absolutely no reason to stay one second in office. Beign the first citizen of a nation with bountiful resources such as ours does not need nor deserve a clueless self servicing muppet at the helm of affairs. Capital No!!!! My fatherland have lost so much to these corrupt, selfish, cruel and uncaring individuals you so much appraising their over rated but short of expectation un-laudable achievements and as such would get every ounce of profanemy rebuttals from me. If words were taxed, few will be rich. If you have nothing to say, say nothing. Babyosisi or whatever the OP calls herself is just another attention seeking psychotic on the loose. Someone that doesn't know the differences in the structures and functions of primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare is not worth any response. Nigerian doctors have proven over and over again that they are superb and that they just need a conducive environment to manifest. Fact is, if you can work in a low-resource setting where you depend more on your clinical skills to make diagnosis, then you'll definitely excel where resources abound and every investigation can easily be requested. 2 Likes |

The OP is just too dull for christ's sake. Intellectual anergy really puts me off. Djdola (may his soul rest in peace) was already diagnosed of cancer histologically in one of the teaching hospitals long before he came on here, so I don't know what the OP is saying again. The fact that he was being taken around different hospitals was the problem IMO, every specialist will want to examine clinically and do investigations to confirm the diagnosis before starting chemo (medicolegal reasons and all). So nobody can blame anybody. 3 Likes 1 Share |

It amazes me how people are so quick to take a swipe at doctors yet when they are sick they run to them to perform miracles. Stop hiding behind a faceless forum to spill thrash. If u have issues with how a doctor managed u, walk up to him n tell him or her a tenth of d bullsh*t u guys r spilling out if u gat d balls to do dat. ribbit: The guilty ones are attacking you The number if people that have died untimely from treatable disease is astounding One young woman was rushed to a private hospital in Nigeria unconscious They started pumping infusion down her arm which is the only thing they are very good at Family called from the USA Doctor how is the patient? They will give the same line you hear on Nollywood, patient is responding to treatment Meanwhile two days later patient is still disoriented What are you treating? Doctor has no clue, yet he is collecting money Family had to ask the doctor if they had done an MRI for any head injuries Whosai Is he interested in knowing what is wrong? Even if he did one ,can he do anything to help the situation ,nothing So called hospital wey no even fit perform ordinary blood work or radiographs, how e go come get MRI Ngwanu transfer patient since you don't even have a diagnosis and No tests for two freaking days Do they care? As long as you pay the deposit and are paying they will keep treating without ever admitting this is over their heads till patient dies and they will day it is the will of God when it was the will of a money hungry, incompetent ,heartless doctor |

The man has burns He can hear everything you are saying, how heartless can you be Said all that under my breathe This nurse abandoned the patient I kept waiting for them to at least put an oxygen mask on him Who sai Patient stayed there ,burns all over for a good 30 or 45 minutes ,who knows how long he was at the out patient department before being admitted Finally they wheeled him out perhaps to go and die somewhere else This is the tertiary center o And all that time no single doctor came by Not even a house officer,I guess they were all relaxing somewhere and couldn't be disturbed Who asked him to get burns after hours |
