It has become quite difficult these days to know which stories emanating from social media are true because so much coming from there is false. Mischievous individuals have turned social media into a propaganda hotbed that spins even the blandest stories into destructive narratives. A good example of this harmful tendency is the case of a certain picture making the rounds on the internet. That picture purportedly shows the Director Defense Information, Gen. Chris Olukolade reading information and monitoring social media posts on a large screen. A man, Comrade Phils is seen pointing out something on the screen to the General. That picture shown below was circulated on social media with the notion that the army is spying on Nigerian social media users and monitoring their activities with a view to clamping down on the social media in Nigeria. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, that picture was taken from a very well publicized interactive session between the Nigeria Defense Headquarters and Nigerians on twitter hosted by Philip Thomas (@comradephils), a popular Social Media influencer, analyst and IT consultant who recently held a tweet meet with Chief Femi Fani Kayode (@realFFK) etc. The event tagged #DefenseNGspeaks was held on January 19 at the Head Quarters of the Nigeria Army and was well followed on social media. The picture above was made public in the course of the event to show the General inspecting questions directed at him for response as stated on the tweet from the host in the screenshot above. Who would spin an educative tweet meet into a conspiracy theory? One special group of such people are the opposition supporters who are bloggers and want to turn the citizens against the government by selling the picture that the government of the day wants to turn the country into a police state. Another group of people with the same tendency are nonpartisan bloggers who want to drive traffic to their websites. So ultimately, such conspiracy theories are cooked up by social media users promoting their personal agenda. Social media users will do well to remain alert less they become prey to selfish interests on the platform. www.thewhistleng.com/exclusive-social-media-clampdown-conspiracy-against-military-busted-with-evidence/ 2 Likes

Martins301: Bro, the media shouldn't be deployed to deceive, misinform, misrepresent, armtwist and hoodwink the masses. That in itself is a from of corruption. Our consciences must be nurtured with truth and honesty. It's even more appalling when such lies are targeted at the Military! It's not patriotism! 3 Likes |

Thanks, OP! The corrupt human nature hardly utilises any invention to the benefit of the general public; it's more inclined to deploy it as a tool for deceit and lies. |

The Nigerian Armforces should btw have a dedicated unit that is surpose to monitor the cyber space, cos the way social medias, blogs post antargonizing articles of the NA is never attainable in any sane country. |

dein77: If not for our voice in the social media, GEJ wouldn't know that Nigerians are being killed senselessly in the North. It is the government of the day that has been twisting facts and spurting forth propaganda to give the impression that all is well in Nigeria. Are you going to turn a blind eye to the sponsored documentary against Buhari and Tinubu that have taken over our airwaves? Please direct your advice to them. |

Martins301: Since this is the only means Nigerians have to fight against an oppressive and iresponsible regime, why can't they just bear it? When did all Nigerians become an opposition to the government? Simply rephrase your statement as "it is the only means the APC have to fight against the government" FYI, all the beneficiaries of the various government programmes and policies are not chadians but Nigerians and they will gladly tell you that they are not oppressed as you assumed. Get your logic right |

Trailblazer1: Thats how you myopic fanatics twist words of people and start spreading lies. . . Did I put ''all Nigerians'' or just ''Nigerians'' in my post? Are Nigerians benefiting from increase in fuel price occasioned by Subsidy removal and more recently, the devaluation of the Naira? |

Whatever is your motive for this post, please desist from it and leave our military out of Nigeria's dirty politics. Our military must never be seen as pro-pdp or pro-apc (that lies and need to be "busted" ).Haven't your principal GEJ done enough damage polarising us along religious and tribal lines? You guys should please leave our military out of this craze. We've had enough already! |
