busky101:Dont forget that the value of the Naira cant be done by fiat ,market forces determines the prices at which you can get it ,so many factors that are not in an economist text book apply in Nigeria .But the western world will not support a stronger Naira |

anonimi:Anonimi, I'm not surprised you sound like all PDP supporters, make your point by tackling the issue and live the person. You guys have always been having it wrong through the rank and file (top to bottom) in your party. I'm still waiting for a more logical comment from you so I and other Nairalanders can respond to it accordingly. |

SeverusSnape:It takes nothing. Surround yourself with very smart, decisive and honesty economists that you trust. Implement their ideas and see the magic roll. So Buhari does not need to know anything about the economy. If he has an eye to select people of integrity like himself, who will not bulge to internal and external influences, Nigeria will be great as China. |

alberto2k:The issue here is not even baba , the Nigerian economy should not be politicized ..lets deal with the data on the ground ,we all knew the previous government left 36billion dollars in reserve and the sole purpose was to stabilize the naira ..we need this because we are not a manufacturing country and we rely on imported goods heavily , hence to devalue naira is a mistake ... as per baba , I think he will struggle with all this tinubu around him but he needs tinubu anyway ( maybe sack tinubu , if he wins :-) , am worried about the naira anyway because it will hurt the essentials , the only people benefitting from the devalued naira is people that earn in dollars or pounds ... u see my point ..either pdp or apc ..the naira should be protected |

anonimi:I thought you had better points to present, all I see are pictures that are in most cases non existence. I would have loved to analyze each of those pictures one after the other but it would amount to sheer waste of valuable time. If that is all you've got, then it's one reason why Nigerians should ignore the PDP come next weekend(28 March 2015). Change is imminent. #ihavedecided |

alberto2k:Thank you sir , every country protects their currency except Nigeria ..I don't know why maybe because its lack of love for our country ..we just need a leader that loves this Nigeria ..at the moment we don't have any ..I thought GEJ will loved Nigeria but the things that has been happening as per security and economy is worrying |

Buhari, u have a good point but sorry to dissapoint u there is no vacancy in Aso rock. Meanwhile, we might appoint u as the EFCC chairman since fighting corruption is the only gospel u have been preaching and that's only if ur health and ur certificate will permits u. GEJ till 2019 when he will gladly hand-over to a younger Nigerian democrat not age mate of our ancestors like Pa Buhari...... |

| Re: Why I Refused To Devalue Naira, Remove Fuel Subsidy - Buhari by grandstar(m): 12:43am On Mar 23, 2015 |
oluamid:You don't devalue because you want to- ITS BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO! If there is a shortage of dollars, then a devaluation occurs so that demand can match supply. Devaluations in themselves are not bad. In a proper scenario, when you devalue, you make imports more costly thereby reducing demand for them. At the same time, you goods become cheaper, increasing the demand for them from overseas leading to increase in exports which increases the dollar supply and eventually lead to a strengthening of the exchange. The problem with Nigeria is that the country's non-oil exports are negligible and a devaluation makes no significant dent in non-oil export volumes. |

olas24u:Why wont the western world favor a stronger naira? That will mean a greater demand for their goods! A weaker currency reduces demand for their goods |
| Re: Why I Refused To Devalue Naira, Remove Fuel Subsidy - Buhari by grandstar(m): 1:22am On Mar 23, 2015 |
ooshinibos:If the pressure on the naira is too strong and you protect, you will run down the foriegn reserves because more money will go out than come in. You need a mighty war chest to defend any currency when the markets move against it. Even the poiund was forced to devalue in 1992 in the face of speculators. George Soros made a billion dollars from betting against the pound. |

[quote author=grandstar post=31903773]Why wont the western world favor a stronger naira? That will mean a greater demand for their goods! A weaker currency reduces demand for their goods[/quote They are able to buy resources at cheaper rates, with a weaker currency ,more dollars will purchase more gold, oil, cocoa, etc, they use them to produce chocolate ,refined products and return it back to us to buy them .so when the currencies become stronger they are not able to buy more at higher currency prices. |
