Thanks Slimmy05. Actually I don't feel prepared at all but I am willing to give it my best shot.
I wish you all the best. You owe the duty to your friends and family who might also want to benefit from your information. Try and pass it on to them, you know if we all conceal information, we won't have to attend to you. You're not in any way compelled to at all. It's your wish.

don't start off on this foot, not right. I know he is not compelled to tell anyone his school or how he got admitted. But it's like you seeking for help and the person who you want the help from is seeking for your help cheesy

If we all conceal information, we would never share interview transcript. It is wrong to share interview transcript or tell you about what goes down there at the embassy, we are not immigration attorneys, but I bet folks here have helped me and they will surely help him as well.

It got to a point I felt US visa was my right grin

You can't compare the Indians or Chinese with Nigerians, you know say we dey too superstitious. I don't even want to have a Nigerian friend except he is a nairalander.

The Chinese are shy though, their command of English language is sickening? I have one as a friend and I don't take her calls anymore. I just form busy and tell he to text me and the Indians are freaking too helpful. I don't know why, they just feel sharing the information gives them hope that they have followers.

They cheat on TOEFL a lot and they're very good test takers.

ripleus:
Hello Visa Officer and good people of Nairaland. I've just been admitted with full funding for a PhD program in a high ranked U.S. school (direct PhD from BSc, without a masters) so I want to apply for an F1 visa.

My concern is that I've never been out of Nigeria before and I think I'll find it hard to prove that I have any strong ties here (my whole family is here but I really nothing of financial value here).

Further, I've earned little or nothing since I completed my BSc because I've been studying a lot independently (and that may be one reason I got full funding from the school). My bank statements can only show enough to get a flight ticket. The school is covering every other expense guaranteed for five years.

I am really concerned about getting this visa because the PhD research is an opportunity that I've waited for all my life. My dream is to return to Nigeria to lecture at a federal university.

A friend said fully funded PhD admissions, especially at a high profile university are never rejected. Is this true? I have searched and it seems to be true.

Do you think the fact that I've never left Nigeria before will count against me?

Is there anything I need to be wary of? Do you have any advice for me?

You dont need to stress yourself at all...

Just be optimistic and stop thinking somethings you dont need to think about...

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 6 by Walspring: 1:01am On Mar 27, 2015
ripleus:

I'm reluctant to mention the school cos they only admit very few people each year (e.g. my program only takes 2 or 3 people per year all over the world, and that's how it goes for other departments too). I'm told by the admissions office that I'm the only Nigerian this year so I don't want to say it here and be possibly identified by a V.O. - until after I've passed my visa interview. So I'll post it after I pass the visa interview, as a reply to this message.

People like you have been here before and they did more than you.... You need to understand that everyone case are different when it comes to visa interview decision

ripleus:

Your response is really sad. So you want me to jeopardize my chances instead of just waiting for a couple of weeks? It's not like you can even apply to the school till end of the year, so I don't know why you're hissing.

Maybe I should have just ignored the question instead.

I cant imagine you thinking this way...

ripleus:

It's not such a big deal really, so I don't know why you're taking it like this. Most PhD programs in the US give full funding. I didn't say the school is unique. My PROFILE is unique, after all the information I have said about myself here. Nobody else here is being asked to reveal their identities or give information that will make a Visa Officer identify them. There is at least one Visa Officer on this thread and you're trying to make me reveal information that can jeopardize my chances. That's what I am saying, and I really don't know what else you want. I said I'll post the name of the school after my interview. Haba.

You need to know that people can be qualified for visa with documents and unique profile but still not eligible for visa..

ripleus:

I have no more words for you. I believe anybody who is reasonable will understand all I have said here. I wish you the best.

Reasonable people wont be thinking that stating the name of the school will stop you from getting your visa... Remember God has final say and not visa officer

The fact and truth is that the VO comes here and read some/most of our post, I dont think they will use it against someone during visa interview..

Those that want to hide information, let them hide it because one day someone too will hide it from them and they will be mad and angry with that person..

Bros see ehn,
Indians don't do this.
Thats why they excel. Naija guys will be forming Lone ranger and hiding from unseen witches and wizards.
Thats why Indians and Chinese folks get away with so many things. THEY ARE UNITED.

I'm not saying he doesn't have a right not to mention his school, for what its worth, the person that asked that question is dim because telling him the school wont change anything as most funding is done by department and not the graduate school per se but still all this equivocation doesn't help our cause really.

You are right big boss... If anyone hide information today, am sure (s)he wont hide it tomorrow or forever

Zeee, haba. smiley I don't know why people hide the name of their school sha. But that shouldn't give us the licence to think they do not belong here.

I am aware of the fact that hiding helpful info here could be annoying but we should NEVER see that as selfishness or immaturity on the part of the applicant involved. See, the beauty of our world lies in the diversity of our view of things.

Let's learn to respect ourselves. The gentleman has a right to his choice. If he wants us to know the school, fine; otherwise, we wish him well, it won't affect the price of garri.

Respecting ourselves is important. Follow peace with all men.

same way u hid yours. how far have you gone ? undecided
