pls help address the question above. On that water issue, is the borehole pump power source not connected to a flat? Who has control/to pay for the electricity for pumping the water? pls share ur idea.

Its difficult breaking all electrical current consumed into individual flats, who then pays for the gate man and all the outside lighting. I will tie the current for pumping water with those for outside lighting, I am working this out today. On the doors, I used foreign doors on local frames, then some local doors were done.

Still in the site this morning, we bought a tank of water and pumped up to a quarter of each tank here. We are currently testing the connections, the flows and areas of leakages. We are fixing up all noticed leaks now.

We need to bury all cables into the walls and seal them, then we place a roof over the electrical board.

Dear Spyderman. I really appreciate these exciting updates. You have done a great job here. Many of us are interested in undertaking this kind of project. It will be great if you can update on the total cost of the building so far. Even an estimate will be okay. Cheers

It can be done. You can run a separate cable from each flat to a convenient spot on the wall of the gatehouse or anywhere else. Each of these wires will terminate in separate sockets. Then run the wire from the pump to where these sockets are located. The pump wire should be fitted with a plug that will match the sockets. So whenever any flat wants to pump water, tenant simply switches on his own socket from his flat (a knife switch will do or any other you deem fit), goes down and plugs the pump cable into his own socket. When he is done, he simply unplugs the pump, goes back to his flat and switches off the socket. You can tie the security lights as you said. Tieing the pump current will be unfair to those who may be low water users.

Oga Spyder, is there a reason why these electrical boards are installed outside? No space in each flats or what? I just want to understand the rationale behind it.
Thanks.

These are the step down from the public power supply, each flat has their own boards inside the passages.

From the look of things it seems the whole compound was divided into two wings (electrically). Two sets of supply cables from the pole terminating at two banks of high capacity 3 phase cutout fuses, feeding each of the two wings. Spyder880 is that what was done? Safety because of the higher load of the fuses?

I have taken note of your suggestion and it looks good, only snag will be wires running around the compound again. I am looking at all options anyway. Thanks.

Exciting thread. I almost feel like I know everything about building electricals and plumbing. Indeed a most exciting journey even as it looks like the project is rounding up sad. But it is good for Landlord o.

Spyder880 we are waiting for your promised 2015 projects so that I can complete my masters degree in building.....and proceed to PhD grin

It was an enjoyable experience for me too, as we prepare to leave this site soon, I look back and feel so much happiness, that most of the work we have done here can stand the test of time. One day I will review the whole project, with a view to explaining the tough tasks, the behind-the-scene actions and workers disputes, the fights with all manners of thugs trying to fleece contractors and home owners alike, the good and the bad, and the hilarious grin

More new projects planned for this year, lets just see the back of a peaceful election first.

Yes, there was a change in plans after the interlocking.
Spyder...I have sent you emails in the past on Ckenneths@yahoo.co.uk but no response. I sent you another one today from my address(obeleuche71@gmail.com). Could you check and respond.
I appreciate all your good works and will love to have you pioneer this project.

My brother, I got your mail but just like I always told others, I am not good at giving estimates based on description of the structures alone. I want to see a building plan and even the site to determine what the costs could be. There are things in a building that could only be read from the building plans. The size is important as well as the structural details like the foundation design and other architectural items like parapet and window positions and shapes.
Giving you an estimate based on your brief description will be like guesswork, it might be wide off the mark and will not help any of us. I plan to open a thread one day to explain all these.
I advice that you bring in an architect into the picture, let him design the building to your taste. As soon as the drawings are ready then you can send them to me and I will look at them carefully. I might demand a physical inspection of the site to see things for myself before concluding the estimates. I might ask for transportation fees. However if its in areas I know very well like most parts of Enugu and northern PH, I might not need to see the site. Welcome.
