Finally A Legacy For Jonathan by OAM4J: 12:12pm On Apr 02, 2015
In my write up here some months ago on why I think Jonathan should NOT be re-elected in 2015 which unfortunately went with the data challenge that affected Nairaland. (http://oam4j..com/2014/04/why-jonathan-should-not-be-re-elected.html). One of the reasons I gave as of the time of writing that piece, was that I couldn't come up with a clear legacy of President Jonathan. So I had thought Jonathan will leave government without a clear legacy.

Howbeit he got a big one when it so mattered most. What he did will be better appreciated when one imagines what could have happened if he had not honorably conceded defeat but follow the path of Orubabe. Nigeria will not be what it is at the moment.

So in accepting to leave office gracefully, Jonathan finally earned my respect and gives Nigeria and indeed Africa a Legacy.

Let me take the opportunity to congratulate all Nigerians on the success of 2015 polls, especially those who believed, bought and worked for change. Some of us had wished for it in 2011; then many were not sold to it. But we are glad that the change we seek is finally here. I can only hope GMB and PYO will not let us down.

I believe Nigeria message is clear; any party/administration that fails or takes Nigerians for granted will be booted out.

Finally I commend Jega and his team; I only wish he can be persuaded to continue. We are not there yet, I look forward to a situation where it will be almost impossible to rig election in Nigeria as I have no doubt that some of the results from many of the states were padded up, even though I can still say the result fairly reflects the wishes of majority of Nigerians.

We have more reason to be proudly Nigerian.

Long live my beloved country Nigeria!

Nigeria and indeed Africa a Legacy.
I couldn't agree with you more.

I had always insisted Jonathan would be totally forgotten both locally and internationally after leaving office, but this last master stroke of his changed all that. I'm even tempted to think that indeed, personally, he might not be a bad person but he's simply weak in character. He surrounded himself with all the wrong people and allowed impunity reign supreme. He was held to ransom by tribal warlords and cecessionist elements and did nothing break the back of the monster.

People like Alams, Asari, Clerk and Fani Kayode shouldn't have been given the kind of recognition they were given. His wife never helped matters either.

At the end of the day, with this single act of his, I see him being given some assignments perhaps by AU or ECOWAS especially as regards election and transition monitoring.

And finally, we all seem to be oblivious of one major actor in this whole episode; Abdulsalami Abubakar. Great man.

I very much agree with the bold. I noticed his weakness from the time of Yar'Adua cabals saga. And to worsen his situation he surrounded himself with sycophants and corrupt people as you rightly mentioned.

And finally, we all seem to be oblivious of one major actor in this whole episode; Abdulsalami Abubakar. Great man.

True that.

Nigeria is a third world country, democracy doesn't work for the greater good in these parts. Democracy is best suited for enlightened electorates and not the ignorant as it obtains in Nigeria.
Nigeria still won't move forward, hence there is nothing to celebrate. The most important problems that are crippling us (ignorance and lack of knowledge) will continue to cripple us.
Still hoping for the best anyway.

The janjaweedes have come to terms with the rise to greatness of Dr Goodluck Jonathan even though they would want him to end in ignominy and oblivion as this euohoria has not only stolen their thunder but showed him up as the best president Nigeria ever had thus vindicating Jonathians for sticking with him to the end, heck even those who voted change are already regretting, what with the uncertainty of Buhari's rule looming ahead it is an irony Buhari now has big shoes to fill from the one who had no shoes initially.

You need brain injection. Whether you like it or not, one thing you you must know is the fact that Jonathan is a rare breed. This singular act of his is one thing Buhari failed woefully to do for three consecutive times, and I'm so sure he wouldn't have done that if the election failed to go his way. In fact, here in River state, the militants and cultists are counting their lose because of the president's noble act, otherwise the whole of Niger Delta would have been at boiling point by now.
Now I know that Buhari's actions or inactions led to the untimely death of many Nigerians.

Jonathan is a great man.

fuckfuckfool, u sound deranged. does this negate what i stated earlier about what i termed his legacy? who are the hopeless militants u are talking about? am also based here in PH, show me dem militants. Buhari didnt because he was obviously robbed and results from this election suggest that those phantom manufactured numbers are simply not real in the Nigerian context. In this election, jonah-daft wasnt robbed and he knew it. He supported what happened to Gbagbo of Ivory coast and he knew if he thread such paths, the same calamity awaits him. He had no choice.
Jonah-daft remains a curse.

Jonathan knew all the cards were stacked against him

US and UK already told him that Do anyhow, See anyhow

OBJ and Generals already reminded him of the Gbagbo treatment

Lately he looked behind him and he saw all those he banked on were just sychophants

Dangote, Otedola, Ohaneze, Fayose, Asari, even the loudmouth Orubebe all have changed tunes

Jonathan looked behind him and saw he was alone

Best what? Regret what?

Buhari has no choice than to perform and if APC doesn't perform, we will compel PDP to present another formidable candidate in 2019 and change from APC. Jonathan has failed as President and commander in chief but he left a legacy of accepting his failure gracefully and leaving honorably, that is a plus and a legacy to be proud of.

The defeat that he was cajoled into conceding. If he was that nice, why didn't he call his men to order while they were running those extremely hatefull campaign. Anyway if Buhari himself could overlook, if even u could overlook, na wetin be my own. cheesy cheesy cheesy

Only the discerning can make sense of that sonnet. Good thing Jonathan did not thread the path of the elephant.

Honestly I doubt he was forced. If at all he was compelled to concede defeat, definitely not by the likes of Orubabe who were ready to burn down Nigeria over his loss.

Jonathan's disastrous presidency should be a lesson to all aspiring politicians. A concessionary call cannot erase that.
Re: Finally A Legacy For Jonathan by nitrogen(m): 4:46pm On Apr 02, 2015
My people, at that time he called Buhari, and congratulated him, he was on his own, those bad advisers were not there, the mistake Jonathan made was to have bad people surround him, it really dented his image, am sure he has learnt his lessons. May the good lord keep us till paths cross again.

Bye Jonathan, you will be missed!
