Why you should give a Mama's boy a chance. Max Green, 32, who moved back home from the West Coast, told the New York Post, "I moved back in with my parents in August. I was dissatisfied with my job, was thinking of going back to school, and wanted to be close to my family." This comes on the heels of a Census Bureau study that reveals nearly one in five men in their late 20s and early 30s are living at home with their parents. And "in just the past six years, the number of men living with their parents has risen from 14 to 19 percent," while only half as many women in the same age range are living at home, rising slightly from 8 to 10 percent since 2005. Despite the stigma attached to men living with their parents—Mama's boy, codependent, immature, broke—we think these men could still be worth dating. So if you happen to meet a guy in this situation, here are four reasons not to immediately write him off. 1. Different men live at home for different reasons. Maybe he's helping out his parents, saving money (student loans anyone?) or was just fired and needs time to get back on his feet. Maybe his stay is temporary, and he's actually in the very process of moving out. You don't know the exact circumstances, and you should take the time to learn more about them before deeming him undateable. 2. The lack of privacy forces you to be spontaneous. Sure, you guys can't get too crazy (or have to be really, really quiet) when his mom and dad are right up/ downstairs, but why limit yourselves to the basement or bedroom anyway? Now you have the perfect excuse to get it on in crazier locales, such as the park or a mall dressing room. It definitely makes for some stories! 3. It'll help you get in good with his parents. What's better for the longevity of your relationship than a great relationship with his parents? By spending more time in their house, you get a better feel for who they are as a family. Imagine all of the gift ideas you'll come up with for special occasions and holidays. Have you ever dated a guy who still lives at home? culled from kinwap |
