No African country would survive a major breakup and not in this harsh economic reality. Check out south Sudan
We aren't talking about breakup here ,Nigeria should be restructured to represent the yearning and aspirations of the people and not lumped under one useless unitary system that doesn't encourage growth and self reliance.

Is that too much to ask for ?

We aren't one and can never be one ,right now the only uniting factor is the black gold and nothing else.

When cocoa , groundnut and Palm oil was running the economy these your so-called brothers stood for regionalism and as soon as oil was discovered in commercial quantity with a lot of noise in the international community that oil is going to be the future and would bring in economic growth that is unprecedented in world economy and ensure economic powerhouse and dominance ,they started making arrangements to return Nigeria to a unitary system of Government and when it was obvious that the then Eastern region won't buy into the idea they started formenting trouble in the North and started killing Igbos and Ojukwu took the bait because he too sees the Niger Delta as being up for grabs without knowing that it was a well orchestrated plan and a set-up by the North and the South West leadership to lure the region into war with enough promises of drilling rights to the British and America if they help .

Ojukwu consulted Awo about the secession which he agreed only to abandon the plan when the problem started .

But today they will distort history just to deceive themselves but people like us knows the truth.

They are not your brothers .......say it to their face.

We are children of circumstances .
u re a poor student of history, well let me let d sleeping dogs lie for now...

Me I think there is nothing wrong with this unitary system of ours, it makes it possible for a situation where now that other parts of Nigeria is dependent on oil for survival, oil from d Niger Delta, tomorrow if sth better is discovered in maybe d north and smhw crude oil looses it's value, o oda parts of Nigeria can benefit from it...

You must have been swallowing all that crap you heard.

What I just gave to you is the remote cause of the conflict unless you're living in self denial.

it all started wen Nzeogwu, a Niger Delta man from present day delta state, smwere around Delta north(delta is part of the defunct mid-west region), planned a coup whose majority of d other initiators were made up of Igbo army officers, and others from other parts of Nigeria, e.g victor Banjo a Yoruba man. The coup was initiated which saw to the death of leaders from other regions, apart from the East, according to sources it was revealed that there was no killing in d East and d coup was peaceful because of d presence of d pope at Enugu at that time d coup was taking place, dunno if it's true o, but there was also sm narrations like someone saying Nnamdi azikiwe was tipped of before d coup happened dat prompted his absence during d day of d coup, Awo wasn't killed coz he was in Jail at the time wen d coup took place, so one of d notable person from history's big 3 who died was sarduana of sokoto called Sir Ahmadu Bello, another person was Nigerian prime minister Sir tafawa balewa, Akintola etc...
After the coup took place it was discovered dat no prominent person in d East died dz aroused suspicion, abt the coup, also it wud be relevant if u know dat it was Aguiyi Ironsi, Ojukwu and sm other officers who stopped d Nzeogwu coup and arrested the coup plotters, then he made one of history's biggest mistake he made d decree that allowed for. Unitary govt, dz brought problems as there was riots in parts of the north who saw it as a plot by d igbo's to dominate dem dz riot was known as the Araba riot. After Ironsi stopped d coup pressure was being mounted on Ironsi to trial d coup plotters (Nzeogwu coup), which he delayed and dz caused problems, also there was also problem as d igbo's in d north were jubilating over the death of Sarduana, it even reached d extent that they even taunted d Northerners over the death of der prince, while dz were happening they never knew d Northerners were secretly planning a revenge attack, they planned in silence until it happened, Ironsi got killed, and others, then the northerners used that opportunity to drench der anger on d Igbos in d north which led to the progrom of 1966, when this started happening millions of easterners fled the north and returned to the east... where Ojukwu was military governor,
NOTE; the northern counter coup was successful in other parts of Nigeria apart from the east, thanks to ojukwu who did his best to stop it.
When the easterners returned from d north coupled with injuries, stories of how they were attacked and how most of them died, also Ojukwu was angry with the present military administration at that time who after Ironsi was killed the military head was supposed to be given to the next senior officer but they skipped him who was d Nxt senior officer and gave it to Gowon a much more junior officer than Ojukwu, dz were part of the thing that made him think of seccession. Read dz if u think I shud continue I will.

if they were to practise a true federal system, dz will lead to some states becoming extremely rich, while so.e becoming extremely poor. To me unitary system is good, nothing stops d states from despite der allocations investing in things that will increase there revenue like d case of Lagos.
