Lagos:No Man's Land Phenomenon/development. by modath(op):
With the ruckus generated by Oba Akiolu's utterances (that I strongly condemn), cos there are ways to drive home your point without drawing the ire of the general populace and fanning the embers of the divisive fire started by the PCO.

There are two things that I've always pondered upon when I hear lagos being bandied about as a no man's land and the ibos claiming responsibility for the development in lagos and its evirons.

1. I've never seen or heard of a non Yoruba omo onile (land owners) and this shouldn't be so if lagos belongs to EVERYONE

2.I respect ibos for being savvy businessmen and traders but I will appreciate someone schooling me on how that directly translates to the infrastructural development and policy making stand of the lagos state govt when there are other tribes and nationalities all coalesced in the melting pot called lagos??

Enlightened minds may please give honest and objective reviews as we have more enough tribal bashing threads. Thank you.

tribal bashing ke? truth is what iboes won't tolerate in their enclaves should not be practised in Yorubaland!
Business savvy? Go to Oshogbo/Ibadan/Ogbomosho even Ilorin b4 you start eulogising those eastern pirates n ritualists!

Frankly, it beats me and worries me. There's no end in sight.

And that is what Igbos keep saying from generation to generation. They tell their kids these things and you can tell that they truly believe it and hold on tenaciously to this.
This is not only on Nairaland. The first time I heard this was from a colleague at work years ago and I was stunned!

I am a member of the Yoruba Nation and would never tell a Lagos indigene that their heritage belongs to no one.

Its an insult to the Eleko that his fathers land is no man's land, they call us slaves, coward and still call our land no man's land. Just too much..

If y'all want a reasonable debate ask for it. If u intend screaming urself to death with hate posts go ahead too.

True Igbos dont talk much. They believe in action.

chill,it was 5,the 6th(out of 24 which is not a shabby perfomance 75:25) is an accord member and the only reason is because those constituencies are igbo dominated neighbourhoods precpitated by the cascading effect of the jonathan's votes( which I have no problem with), if you may be kind to answer me this; why are all the senators APC candidates if the non yoruba votes outnumbers the yorubas in lagos.

Pdp South West are the most useless entity in Nigeria. Obanikoro, Fayose, Agbaje, Yinka Odumakin, Bode George must all be dealt with. You want regional autonomy yet presented an Igbo candidate in Yoruba land.
And for those Yoruba bastards that supported them, this is just the beginning.
I have told some off my friends not to worry. They wan jump, Ore, Osun, Ogun, Oyo come claim Lagos? Ojukwu tried it and failed. Do you think Yoruba Alliance with Northerners is a joke? Just wait and see.

my apologies with the error....an oversight. Its ok to console urself....no shame in it.

Believe it or not....a good number of Igbos are indifferent to Lagos politics. Some dont even care who ends up being governor, some who do wont even go and vote. What u see play out in the House of Reps election is the few dat voted in Igbo-MAJORITY areas. So its possible for APC to win all three.

Oba Akiolu spoke out of line for a king. A noble mind should address issues with wisdom. However, one can sense his desperation in these sensitive times, and no king of any kingdom (even the Igbo kings) wouldn't have done likewise or even worse.

Yorubas have an adage that says awolumate o mowon ara re meaning a stranger who doesn't enter into trouble in a strange land, knows and respects his bounds. This is why you'll never hear of yorubas defiance in another land.

I am if the opinion that the Igbo should thread very carefully, no matter what you say, Lagos is the Yoruba's - and if things get too heated up we will know who owns the land. Yoruba have been tagged the most cowardly in Nigeria, this isn't true when war finally starts. You can ask the hausas in sagamu what happened in 1999.

Even jimi agbaje needs to watch it dearly not to be exiled.

YOU CAN NEVER WIN THE WAR WITH ANOTHER MAN ON HIS OWN LAND

cheesy cheesy.. You know the ibos do care and they are trying to use this gubernatorial election as a payback for the perceived betrayal of march 28th...

How many yorubas do you think voted as well? Lagos has over 5m PVCs collected and altogether there were about 1.5m voters, even if the elections were to be reconducted and EVERYONE turned out, we would still have the same results... & FYI.. I'm not pained in anyway; i know it will be difficult for you to believe that there some people that are not ethnic bigots...

In school i supported my Urhobo friend for director of sports(SUG) against a yoruba candidate from the same faculty and it was considered an anomaly.
