This thread is full of inaccuracies. It is a common error to say Lagos State was the Capital of Nigeria. This is untrue. Lagos State was created in 1967. It was made of FIVE 5 divisions; Lagos,Ikeja,Ikorodu ,Epe and Badagry. Lagos was the Federal Capital Territory i.e Lagos Island Victoria Island ,Ikoyi, Ebute Metta and some parts of Surulere. All the rest were in the Western Region. Only a part of the state was the Federal Capital

Calabar was NEVER the capital of Nigeria. Calabar was the capital of the Niger Coast Protectorate and the Oil Rivers protectorate until 1914 . That is the SS and SE . In 1914 Nigeria was formed and Lagos was the first Capital of what we know as Nigeria today. Calabar was Never capital after amalgamation in 1914.

If Ironsi did not cancelled the regions and amalgamated power at the centre, the northerners you are referring to won't be as powerful as you perceived them to be today. Typical of an Iboman not to respect others and always trying to lord it over others,, Ironsi cancelled the regions, for the Almighty Ibo to be ruling them all from the centre, after a coup of ibos that he benefited from.

Nobody is fighting ownership of lagos with you people rather what you need to understand is that you don't force people to hold same political view with you, we are all Nigerians and we practise a Federal system of govt which allows you to live anywhere and vote and be voted for.
Why are you people fighting the ibos because they are not in APC or supporting Ambode? I live here and I pay tax here and the law gives me the right to vote out any official whose policies doesn't favour me, that's why its called democracy.

Unfortunately I am not an APC fan. I have never hidden my disgust for the party. I am neither tribalistic nor xenophobic. I am only responding to what some of our Ibo brothers are insinuating about Lagos, a no mans land which I know you are equally aware of that debate. Then this brings to mind the question,who is a true indigene of Lagos, in 'Nigerian context'?In Nigerian context an indigene of Lagos is not a man who was born in Lagos but a man whose father is originally a native of that area,whose origin can be traced to Lagos or as its called in local parlance,'a son of the soil'.So going by this description,you will find out that most people that shout on top of their voices claiming Lagos,are not even from Lagos.
For example,Bola Tinubu a former governor of Lagos is from Iragbiji in Osun State,Akin Ambode presently contesting for Lagos state governorship is from Ilaje in Ondo State.This clearly means that both are not indigenes of Lagos,just like most other people in Lagos eg Hausas,Igbos,Urhobos,Fulanis etc
A true indigene of lagos is the PDP contestant Jimi Agbaje who is from Ikorodu in Lagos state and this explains why he seems to be more popular with the common man in the street and most indigenous Lagosians.
In many quarters,there is call for a true indigene of Lagos to rule Lagos state as it is obtainable in other states.
