Today's Governorship election in Lagos State has been successfully transformed into a Yoruba vs Igbo showdown all thanks to Jimi Agbaje's/PDP's ethnic and divisive politics. I really pity the Yorubas because I heard "Ibos have 95% population" in Lagos State. grin grin grin

Sorry in advance to the flat heads embarassed

A wise king does not engage in partisan politics, if an oba uses foul language, what does he expect from touts. That oba should be dethroned , even Tinubu is ashamed of him.
Because he threatened to curse people?

Comments like this is what we have been arguing all day

And to those who said the Oba threatened genocide.....do you understand Yoruba customs at all? A king sits on his throne and says people will drown is not a threat of physical violence, he threatened to curse them if they did not obey him.

"Ending up in the Lagoon" stems from the king allegedly owning the powers of Olokun but again. We took it the way we wanted
I thought I was the only one who reasoned like this. But I chose not to explain this to people because of the sensitivity of the topic. In any case the mere fact that jimi allowed PDP to bring politics of ethnicity into Lagos is enough to deny him this dream. Let us see how will elevate the eze to the same status as the oba. I don't even know where the palace of the oba is. But I just got irritated by the ethnic card.

Unless the PDP finds a way to counter the votes from Alimosho local government.....

The PDP did not know the weight of that statement. A lot of people don't care about the Oba but when the PDP supporters started peddling it, it got people disgusted

Frankly I don't expect to come here to explain to you. What the Oba said was wrong and we all agree but over flogging an issue and turning it into a tribe thing between parties is not the way forward.

I don't really care who wins today anyway. I don't have to call that clueless charlatan my president after may 29 and that's my interest in this electoral month.
ssi!

Abeg the king should go and sit down jor.

What has he done to uplift the condition of poor yoruba people since he came on the throne more than ten years. Those yoruba leaders fail to improve peoples' lifes.

Nevertheless it make sense for lagos to go along with the center. APC is at the center it make sense to have APC government in lagos. And also the performance of fashola in last eight years is not bad.
What has any obi, eze, sarki, emir done for any Nigerian subjects. They're all the same

Yeah, they are the same.

But all kinds of yoruba leaders should stand up and be leaders. Because presently they are just leaders by name.

Pls where can I follow results?

didn't vote today..did my bit 2 weeks ago.

would have voted Agbaje but afraid of his party and leaders..

Would have voted APC but not sure of Ambode.. CV apart, I just feel he won't do half of what Fashola did because he's not as assertive as Fashola when the chips are down.

This is where she said Agbaje and the PDP handled it badly.

Agbaje did not say that but his supporters did. Should we punish Agbaje for what his supporters said no?

But remember that Ambode never insulted any tribe. The Oba did but we seem to want to punish Ambode for what the Oba said.

Same logic at play
In other words, Agbaje never said anything against Yorubas as Obiagelli so ignorantly and sheepishly claimed.

Thanks

@Obiagelli

Your analysis seems on point. What is suppose to be a blow against Ambode seems to be turning around to be a blow against Agbaje. The sentiments I heard going on suddenly on Lagos street is that Agbaje is an 'Igbo candidate'.

Personally am indifferent about the two candidates, I was around in Nigeria during the 2007 elections and I voted for Agbaje then. Except that I wish to see what Lagos can benefit from the center if possible. Lagos has NEVER aligned with the center. So if APC wins Lagos, it will be the 1st time EVER Lagos is not playing opposition.

Obiagelli:
This is the first time i will be commenting on the speech by the oba of lagos, to the average person or mind, it is a ridiculous statement, but looking at it from a political lense, it has become a case of the more you look, the less you see.

The Pdp
The oba's statements to the best of my understanding was not a public one, it was deliberately leaked by agents who taught it could be used to the advantage of the pdp's candidate in lagos since there is not religious cards to be played, ethnic card shocked they jumped at it. (they never learn)

The Apc
The apc was thrown into disarray, they momentum of winning at the center had suffered a setback, while many rushed to denounce the statement, the strategists saw and opportunity and they helped LOUD to music (forgive my english)

The Igbos
As expected, they were mad at the statement and rightly so, they also didn't fail to overblow it. It is expected that the igbos will give 90% of there votes to the pdp but something amazing happened in the last few days, i have seen more igbos (influential leaders) sit at the same tables with Apc chiefs (this would never have happened without this crisis) i have seen many igbo leaders accept apologies and even endorsed the Apc candidate. I have seen igbos in Apc wears and campaign buses around ladipo and alaba.

The yorubas
We expected the yorubas to give 40- 30% of their votes to jimi agbaje because a lot of them had chosen to vote the Apc at the center and the pdp in lagos, like it or not jimi is also yoruba BUT the tide has turned, the direct attacks on their Oba and the claim that lagos is no man's land coupled with jimi's overly courting the igbos at their detriment has irritated a lot of them. The yorubas won't do a shouting match, they act with a devastating bile (ask gej)

Jimi Agbaje
Agbaje also played to the gallery by making silly statements rather than being gentlemanly since the ball was in his court, he displayed obvious influence from bode George and obanikoro, this is not the jimi we know but the god's father push.

Obiagelli
I am indifferent to both candidates, as my fanatic support for the apc does not go beyond buhari and maybe elrufai and fashola. I can't wait to see the results.

VOTE NOT FIGHT.
So OP In essence. the PDPROpagandists shot themselves in the foot

You just killed it. Tinubu machine can turn a Stone into Meat pie. Turning adversities into advantages, stumbling stones into stepping stones. I doff my cap for this genius of a man.

Yes. The Oba whipped up anti-Igbo sentiments and by extension Pan-Yoruba sentiments in favour of the APC. I have friends and neighbors who didn't vote cos they were scared of violence.

I also didn't vote for a reason known to me.

one thing I need to know is, are the two leading candidates not Yoruba? if truly the igbos want to punish the Oba, should it be by voting one of the yorubas rather than vote their own candidate?

To me, the so called protest vote does not make sense..

We all saw how close it was during the presidentials,we all also saw how low morale was after collation and announcement...Now throw in the momentum and deep pockets Ambode had by his side, you can observe that Akiolu's outburst was a moment of divine intervention for Agbaje,as it has not only destroyed any semblance of momentum for Ambode,it has also peaked Agbaje's popularity far above any deep pockets, propaganda or buhari's bandwagon effect...For the first time, crucially,Jimi now has the edge. Everyone in Lagos is tired of Thieffnubu's stranglehood on the state, the only folks keen to vote APC are those yoruba supremacists who are very few in between, then you observe how voters especially those who swung it for APC might not be interested as they have met their objectives with Buhari's electoral victory, add that to those in the APC who are strongly convinced-as they have continously down the years- about Jimi Agbaje plus those who voted Goodluck as hopeless as his situation was would be keen to 'change' an outcome for once in the elections with their PVC then there is the small matter of igbo annoyance, those coming back from Easter,a point to prove doubters wrong(without Akiolu's motivation most wouldn't have bothered about Lagos elections especially after Goodluck's defeat) and their block votes.
"Teef..nubu" This singular slur doomed your prediction. Ambode wins.
