From my own point of view, I think a State Governor is highly placed, compare to Federal Minister who is only answerable to the President.

A minister resigns to contest for governorship election not the other way round, president controls a minister but can't control a governor.

A minister is subject to whims and caprices of the president but the governor has no such encumberances, case in point; imagine Amaechi or Kwakwanso as ministers under Jonathan during the defection debacle..

One of the major reasons Jonathan was reviled is cos he had all the POWER to FIRE his ministers that have drawn the ire of the populace but chose to look the other way instead.

A minister appointed by Mr. President can never be greater than an elected governor. A minister can be hired and fired as the president considers fit and proper, but an elected governor can't be, unless he is impeached by the people who elected him, through the state house of assembly. Finally, in a democracy, one who is elected is greater than one who is appointed. The constitution is supreme. In Nigeria, a minister might seem more powerful because of the support he enjoys from a sitting president in disregard to the constitution and the rule of law. Call it impunity.

A minister has no security detail entitlement but a governor is entitled to a security for him and his family. Imagine the convoy governor and a convoy less minister. Abeg Na governor sure pass

A governor has immunity, a minister doesn't. A governor is the number one citizen in his state, a minister is an appointee, to give advise on certain issues to the president.

Federal Executive Council members are and maybe should be superior to a State Governor cos they are representatives of the President.

ITS NOT ABOUT WHO HAS THE IMMUNITY....IT'S ABOUT THEIR HIERARCHY AS A FAR AS THEIR POSITIONS ARE CONCERNED

I will make this as simple as possible for u guys:

A state govnr is in charge of his state, a minister is in charge of his office that deals with every state of the federation.

A minister of education can say we shall operate a 3-4-5 system of eduction and all the state commissioners who are answerable to the state govnr must comply.

The state will work on regulations while the law will still prevail.

A Govnr seems higher than a minister because he is not answerable to a minster, but indirectly, he is.

Take for example, if the finance minister says all state accounts must be audited every month, no state govnr will refuse to comply. Their finance commissioners must submit an audit of the state to the ministry of finance. The audit must have the ascent of the state govnr so, indirectly, a state govnr answered to a minister.

Think abt it.

So, in recapitulation, a govnr cannot override a minister's order, but a minister can override a state's regulation as long as it doesn't confirm with the laws laid down thru his office.

ministerial jobs are political appointment and that doesn't say it is inferior. Even if u are a minister for one week, your order must be carried out in all respective and related office of the states in the whole federation.

State governor is a small god in his domain. One good example is why would Obanikoro, Wike et al resign to go and contest in their various state !!!
