Celepope:You are totally wrong on this one my friend. Kashamu was well known in chicago in the 90s. He was a big time heroin dealer out of Uptown neighborhood on the North side of Chicago around Sheridan and Wilson. The guy is a liar saying he has never been to US. People here are making fun of Nigeria when they hear Kashamu is a senator elect. Believe it or not, the guy is a fugitive and the long arms of America will eventually get him. He can run but can't hide forever. 1 Like |

I'm sure you have many such illustrious sons...many of them taking charge and even much more subtle than Kashamu! E go better! scribble: |

/ I just "googled" the case. Apparently he was indicted in 1998 by a grand jury in the Northern District of Illionois. I didn't know about that before. Since he has been indicted, US should go ahead with extradition process to get him back to Chicago to stand trial. They have the means to handle the process. If they choose not to, oh well... \ |

Lucasbalo: My exact thoughts. I do not believe he has never been to the US. He must have done so under some false identity and he seems rather confident that the US travel records cannot be traced back to him. He's a drug baron and it's a well known fact that the barons try as much as possible to remain invisible. Which is why the traffickers and those who launder money for them find it difficult to identify the main man. Besides what was he doing in Benin Republic He claims he was involved in politics How's that possible when he's not a Beninese? This man is a full blooded Ijebu man from Ogun State. Republic of Benin must have been the base of his drug trade as they had lax laws/security at the time. GMB is known to be totally anti-hard drugs and he will be totally disgusted to have a man with such record as a senator during his tenure as president. I see him doing very thing possible to ensure Buruji is sent to the US to clear his name since he claims he is innocent or go his jail for what he has done. |

Ralphlauren:Believe me the guy was well known to us here as a sleaze bag. I went to college couple miles north of his base of operation. He should come to US and see what will happen to him. |

ntyce: He has obviously used many aliases to perpetuate his various crimes He was also jailed in the UK The fraud called Buruji Kasamu Esho Jinadu Lisord (aka Buruji Kasamu) is a native of Ijebu Igbo in Ogun State. While growing up at Ijebu-Igbo, he was said to have stolen a wrist watch in the mosque. He was to later become a driver to one ‘Double Chief’, a notorious 419 kingpin. That was where Esho Jinadu learnt his ropes, and became a drug pusher later. His sudden wealth then gave rise to Jinson Motors on Allen, which was raided by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) under the headship of Musa Bamaiyi in 1984/85 but he escaped from NDLEA detention cell and fled to Benin Republic. In 1998, he was caught in London by the British Police over money-laundering and drug-trafficking offences. He was detained at London’s Heathrow Airport with large amount of hard currency including six passports of different nationalities in his possession. Through a standard name check, the British Customs authorities found out that there was an outstanding US warrant for his arrest on narcotics trafficking charges, his street drug trafficking name at that time was Kasmal. He was therefore detained, prosecuted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment. Besides these, which security reports have confirmed, preliminary investigations also show that upon his return to Nigeria in 2003, after serving out a four-year jail term in British prison, he used Kasmal International Limited to dupe a new generation bank to the tune of $4.1 million through a fraudulent letter of credit. It was then said that he took loans with a deliberate attempt not to pay back. At a point, a warrant of arrest was issued against him in Britain for money laundering over a case involving Vitol. In the Vitol case, Kasamu, after receiving a consignment of petroleum products from the company abroad, sold them all, collected all the money only to accuse Vitol of supplying adulterated products. Based on this false claim, he refused to pay the company. In 2010, controversy whether or not Buruji Kashamu is a drug baron and fugitive from the United States law broke out in the Nigerian press, with a section of the Nigerian media reporting in late 2009 that a certain Alhaji Kashamu’s name came up in a recent Court ruling dated September 25, 2009 by Judge Charles R. Norgle of the United States District Court in Chicago, Illinois in which the Judge upheld his (Kashamu) indictment by the U.S government on drug trafficking charges and conspiracy to smuggle heroin into the country. Kashamu was described by the U.S government as the kingpin of the drug cartel. In quick response, Kashamu published several rebuttals in the newspapers and alleged that he was not the one being sought after by the United States Government, but that the alleged crime was committed by one of his brother who is now late. Kashamu, in his defense, also claimed that he had been cleared by a British Court and produced what purports to be the decision of a Magistrate Court in England. Kashamu also referred to his recent issuance of German visa sequel to his clearance by international security agencies as a further proof that he is not a fugitive and that the U.S may have been looking for a wrong person. However, the United States government insisted that the man the U.S government is looking for is no other person than Buruji Kashamu, not his brother and that the government of the U.S still regards Buruji Kashamu as a drug kingpin and a fugitive from the United States law. It was also reported that the U.S further has never withdrawn its warrant of arrest against Kashamu and that the charges against him (Kashamu) remained pending and will request for his extradition from Nigeria in due course. The United States Government also accused Buruji Kashamu of using fraudulent means to obtain a German Visa in 2009. The U.S government noteed in its brief that Kashamu communicated with German officials using the name Buruji Kashamu Shodipe instead of Buruji Kashamu. According to the U.S government, Kashamu was indicted in the United States under the name Buruji Kashamu and the warrant of arrest against him was issued in that same name. It is the position of the U.S that any confusion by German officials that led to the issuance of a Schengen visa to Kashamu may have been caused by Kashamu’s use of the surname Shodipe in his application and communications with the German consulate. Obviously, there is indeed, a pending criminal action against Mr. Buruji before the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois involving fifteen people. The Case 1:94-cr-00172 is before Hon. Judge Charles R. Norgle. While Kashamu’s other co-conspirators had been jailed, Kashamu’s case is being held under the fugitive Calendar. http://www.osundefender.org/?p=119013 3 Likes |

He should pursue his libel case against OBJ, that's another of proving his innocence. And thank God he is not from the SE, else he would have faced more assailants here on NL 1 Like |

Some comments are just stupid, how can you ask a man to go US to prove his innocence?,when he stated clearly that he hasnt been to US before.some folks in this country with their pull down mentality. You think the US are so sure he is the one and they ve let him walk freely since 1998. 3 Likes 1 Share |

If it wasn't him why is it that he has not visited the US since or he wasn't given a visa? Why didn't Kasumu take the US government to court? He should just try & visit the US before or after he is sworn in this year & am sure a try will surely convince him & anyone that thinks its a question if mistaken identity. |

saaedlee:well i am not from Ogun state but if you read the story as i read it, you would have discovered the answer in the write up Let me say this: if the USA didnt appeal any of the judgement of UK courts in favour of Kashamu. I think his indictment remains a “non“ issue. 2times the USA went to UK to extradite him, 2times they were denied. But why dont the USA come to Nigeria then or go to Benin Republic? Why go to UK when this man was actually living in Benin Republic? USA can also lie sha, just to kill a man. But bros... U know say indicment no mean convicted...? |

Celepope: Bros, you are making sense jare. Many are filled with hate didn't even bother to read everything, just the title and the next thing they do is comment...lazy bones. If he was discharged in uk and not by nigerian judge and he's bold enough to put all these out then leave the man alone. So OBJ is the saint accusing ppl now abi? Ppl should think right. The point is ppl desire success but hate it in other ppl's lives. Pulling someone won't elevate you. Leave kashamu alone. How I wish someone talk abt Tinubu's criminal record too and OBJ's looting of Nigeria's treasury but no one will talk abt it because they are seen as 'saints of change' nigerian youths and their folly... 3 Likes 1 Share |
