The problem lies here: ukwauni is a language and not a dialect but 100 percent part of this igbo/igboid family One cannot choose his history or rewrite history, our history is what makes us. If all the Igbo dialects mentioned by the OP are languages on their own, they would not qualify as Igboid. One can decide to change or deny his citizenship, but his history can never be denied or changed.

They actually all can be classified as igboid to me but we have two dichotomy here because some groups profess more their unique identity while some have embraced igbo as theirs. Since you cannot force identity on any group then igbo proper became an invention to group the others who have chosen to use igbo in place of their unique identities into one group (problem solved ).

We all started with our unique identities but along the course of history with the coming of the whiteman the option of going with igbo as one came to reality. Some accepted while some did not, the civil war in some way and ethnic perception within nigeria has helped to shape the present reality. We can go about it in a sensible way like adults or just keep on abusing ourselves if we try to shy away from reality and facts.

The issue of people denying their history is all but for selfish reasons. Self determination or even nationhood can be achieved without self denial.

Thank you... Its just a simple logic.

Respect my wish as an Ukwuani man... Then I shall tell you, I generally fall into the igboid family.

We don't need you to admit your tribe to us or not. So far as you speak 'bia' for come and you call God 'chi' and drink 'mmili'(water), you are an Igbotic igbo man.

I do not think I have ever met an Igbo (Igboid, if you prefer)-speaking person from the South-South who understands the situation, as clearly as yourself.

To be fair, most South easterners appear not to understand it, too - with the way many of us often insist that the Igbo ethnic identity was already a well-developed idea, prior to the 20th century.

Bros these people are actually yorubas impersonators posting hate comments there are about three of them including the one who calls his name ikwerreboy. Pls don't waste your time on them, they're just nonentity dogs who can never be bold enough to represent their miserable tribes in public but hide under people identity to post tripe.

What history and how far back can you go?. . . do you know that the more you go back in history the more you realize that igbo, yoruba and edo used to be one but see them today fighting each other like fools.

Thanks and i don't mind whichever name is used as long as the usage is clearly understood. Studying history and looking at facts objectively would have helped but i believe some just want to stick to their present understanding because of the Nigerian factor. We all came to the world naked and going to leave it naked be you ukwuani or igbo.

We can all come together under one banner or have different banners in a very strong cooperation as one family no matter the various uniqueness. we only just need to understand each other, come to an agreed understanding and move on to better things. I belong to every igbo group you will ever find on facebook but people just think that promoting ukwuani uniqueness means someone hates the word igbo.

Lmfaooo. See how the wannabe swirm. Bendel was never called Benin state. Bendel was name of the state and benin was just the capital, not the whole state. Bendel state consisted of common day delta and common day edo state. Agbor was never the capital of bendel thus never part of Benin. Try and sell another story. Attache by force monkey.

Pls I would like to know if there is any originally Igbo speaking town that had lost the Igbo language due to the influence of other language. Eg, These people that claim that they are Bini but 99% of their names, language, tradition has bin taken over by Igbo and also the Opobo/ Bonny area that speak Igbo since Igbos just came their as traders and slaves but have "taken" over the original Ibani there. I still wonder how the Igbos of then were able to influence the Igbo language on those towns without 'colonization' of the towns ( firing a shot).

I'm not sure of lost Igbo speaking towns. However, there are stories of Igbo migrants into Idoma, Igala, Cross river areas who settled in those areas and are today identifying as among those areas.

Vice versa for certain Igala and Idoma people who settled in Enugu state (Nsukka area esp). As for an entire Igbo-speaking town getting lost to some foreign language, I'm not so sure about that.

Ukwuani is not exactly igboid. There are elements of Yoruba and Edo contained therein.
Otofe! Never knew there are elements of yoruba in ukwuani. I am aware of the influence of Bini in the language of most parts of anioma. I used to think that the yoruba dialect among the anioma people was from those igala/olukunmi (don't know if I'm spelling it right) people in places such as ugbodu and ukwu nzu (not sure of the spelling)

You are desperately trying so hard to derail this thread and turn it into an Ikwerre identity denial thread, like Nairaland doesn't already have enough of such threads.

Here is what your ancestors had to say about your ethnicity and even the colonial masters http://www.elombah.com/index.php/special-reports/16602-ikwerre-is-igbo

The op of this thread has maliciously included Ikwerre amongst the various Igbo clans.

The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria recognises the Igbo and Ikwerre as two separate tribes..Nigerians can always refer to the constitution whenever that need arises.

We are not surprised at the Igbos and their tendencies because other Nigerians can prove that are always a provocative tribe and have the nature of attaching themselves to other people either by hook or crook.

tonychristopher, Pazienza, emmysoftyou, babyosisi, freeglobe, Abagworo and other NL igbos should do well to inform the op.
actually the op classified ikwere as an igboid language and not as an Igbo language. are you denying that ikwere is an igboid language?

Nice one.

The truth is Igbos are a bunch of confusionists, liars, selfish and subverting people, they are always willing to generate hatred for themselves from the natives whenever they find themselves.

Ikwerres do not bother anyday about Igbos but they are dyeing over themselves to have Ikwerre included as Igbos primarily for their selfish desires to covet our natural resources and access to sea.

Ikwerre as a group is simply too sophisticated to be a subgroup of anytribe..Igbos should wake up to that reality,
unless you are drunk, you should know that things are what they are. no body is forcing anybody to be what they are not. ikwere is an igboid language whether you like it or not. it's undisputable. I can understand their language they can understand mine. with the rate you get high bp over Igbo matter, if you don't take time, you'll get stroke o. I don talk my own. #saynotoigbophobia
