I'm an Agric fresh graduate from the university of Agriculture, abeokuta. I can rmembr a slogan to answer the then mockery of being a farmer...WHAT IS WRONG WITH BEING A FARMER. My brother, agric student aren't d only ones having challenges...recently met a law student and she was scared of the challenges she'l face after skul.

Whatever you are doing, just do it at your best and you'l see opportunities everywhere. I seriously pray, that with the new government, i hope the wind of change will actually spread to the agricultural sector. Dnt luk down on yourself, we are the feeders of this nation...sooner or later, they'l cum begging and running after us.

Graduate of agric, you don't need money to start, you have the knowledge put it into use. I have been making millions from agric value chain even when I did accounting in the university.
1.You don't need money to start ordering day old Chick for client just a small space and advert.
2. You don't need money to be a broker for commodities
3. You don't need money to be a farm consultant (after all it is your industry)
4. You don't need money to start a supply chain for farmers
The opportunities are vast, reach out I could give you more

Forget abt oil company and the likes. Focus your mind on what u hv learnt and start up something. cheers

I'm Ema, a 4th year student of Agric, UNN.
Studying Agric is one of d worse thing that ever happen to me. Though different people had advised me not to change my dept telling me about what the nation holds for Agric Sector in d future.
But the issue is that Agriculture is a local science, not much of new stuffs are learnt especially here in Nigeria. You spend 5 years in the university, of which 1 year is spent clearing grasses, tilling, cultivating and cleaning animal pens. The worse thing is that u dont learn anything new this period that has not been said in the class. You are asked to identify breeds of cattle and species of leagues and grasses.
The class lectures are seldom interesting and requires too much of cramming.
One funny thing is that unlike doctors who graduate and starts practicing their profession, even first class agric student knows no better than u grandparents in cultivating. Modern farms do beta because of fertilizer, herbicides and machine which are not even made by the Agric students.
Ba3 low, gotta continue later.

Agric is sweet and I am enjoying it. It pays my bills.

In agric, you need to know a little of everything and everything of a little.

Do you understand?

It is the most lucrative, most dangerous and most dignifying of all professions.

You have to fear the person that feed you because your life and that of your family is at his mercy.

Have you thought of that?

God bless Nigerian Agripreneurs.

Sincerely!

Interesting.
Life is about having passion for what we do.
I study Geology for my 1st degree and Geophysics in 2nd degree.
But as God would have it, I am proud to be a farmer.
I trained farmers, agriculturist and agribusiness people.
I keep wondering why I never study Agriculture in school.
Why am I saying this?
. Its either you develop interest for what you are doing or you seek for what you have interest for.
Search yourself. What exactly do I enjoy doing even when there is no financial benefit.
You can also look inward. Agriculture is a large value chain. Its full of opportunities.
Wish you well

Agric offers a lot.
Other African countries such as Kenya, South Africa and nearby Ghana are reaping trillions from the agric sector. Some of us are bent on drilling the goldmine called agriculture.
Your parents don't like it because our forefathers are did not make anything out of it.
Technology is here to make a big difference

You are more likely to suceed if you team up with other farmers, get training together, then provide a bigger source of produce to be taken seriously by bulk buyers who can guarantee a stable income

Don't get weighed down by the stereotype view of studying Agriculture in school because the reality on ground is that it is one of the most sustainable means of income if one gets it right. l have a Kenyan friend here in Nairobi and he is a graduate of Aeronautic Engineering, guess what is feeding him? .....Worms! He is into vermiculture, this he does in a space not up to a plot of land and he earns about 200,000ksh (N400,000) on a monthly basis for his effort. How many graduates are earning this on a monthly basis in Nigeria?

Take Lagos as an example, the population of Lagos alone is about the same with that of Cameroun that is a Country and if you are in a position to produce just what 0.1% of Lagosians consume food-wise, you can imagine the number of people who will be working under you to deliver to that 0.1%.

There is a far bigger picture out there, don't limit yourself!

I have visited many places across Kenya thus my conviction that diary farming is possible in every region of Nigeria and should not be the exclusive of the Fulanis. lt would reduce the cost of milk in Nigeria just as l get to buy a litre of fresh milk here in Nairobi for N130. Powdered milk which Nigerians are so used to is like an abomination to Kenyans because there is a constant supply of milk from the over 1.5million small holder dairy farmers across the Country.
