How can Ethiopia with $340 million budget have a greater fire power than SA with a budget of $4.6 Billion?

A grade school kid can out gun a professor on the eve of his term exams. In simple terms, Ethiopia has been at war or combat readiness for the past two decades that's why. That's also why Angola is near the top too. It has heen decades since our civil war. Our military muscles are like those of Arnold Schwarzengger today. But don't worry. Boko Haram's resillience will propel us near the summit.

This is quite accurate, but Eritrea didn't make the list? Hmm
Eritrea should be number three. They are well organized and they don't run in battle. Nigeria should be no 7, we're not training, and the money for our military-ware is being plundered. Once we start reorganizing then we should be back to number 1.

10. LIBYA

The 2011 Libya revolution has placed question marks on the military capabilities of a country with population of just over 6 million. Almost 3 million citizens are fit for service and just about 116,000 people reach service age each year but these small numbers correlate quite oppositely to the artillery and ammunition the country boasts of when compared with other African countries. Libya boasts of 500 tanks, 2,500 armored fighting vehicles, 400 self propelled guns, 800 rocket projectors, 1050 potable AT weapons, over 600 air crafts and 121 helicopters and $880 million pumped in to defence every year.

But the Libyan military was destroyed by Allied forces a few years ago.

Nigeria Armed forces escaped same destruction this year because Jonathan conceded defeat in the last election, figure it.

Re: 10 African Countries With The Highest Military Strength And Fire Power by Nobody: 2:03pm On Apr 26, 2015
In my opinion, Nigeria should be the first. There was this story about a certain time when Nigerian Soldiers were sent on a joint peace keeping mission in an African country (either Dafur of Sierra-Leone... i can't remember which) with the military of other selected African countries with UN heading the contingency.

One day, the rebels in that country who were known to be very ruthless came to a town which was bordering the capital and took over the town. The UN soldiers went to confront them and the rebels fought them back and the UN soldiers suffered very heavy casualties and had to retreat and re-enforce with some other soldiers from the other African countries like Cameroon etc. They went back there and suffered the same or even worse fate in the hands of the rebels.

The Nigerian soldiers who were camping some kilometres away from that place were called upon cos there was this fear that if the rebels advanced into the capital of that country, it would cause serious problems. So when the Nigerian soldiers arrived in the UN camp, the commander insisted that his boys only would go to confront the rebels without any assistance and the UN gave them the go ahead though they were skeptical about the numbers of the soldiers on the Nigerian side as against the large number of rebels.

The Nigerian soldiers proceeded to the place and according to civilian witnesses, as the soldiers were advancing they were being shot at by the rebels but surprisingly the bullets were not penetrating them and the hand grenades thrown at them did not detonate. The soldiers killed 3/4 of the rebels, arrested some while the rest retreated back into the bushes.

Unfortunately, the CNN and BBC started giving credit to the UN soldiers and attributed that particular feat to them leaving the Nigerian soldiers at the sidelines.

[/quote] No be only combat ready. Can 60% of the Nigerian army be combat ready within 4weeks? Do you even know what it means to be combat ready. Am sure it will take almost an entire year for the current Nigerian army to field just a single division that is ready and capable to face the rigour's of a real battle. And by real battle I don't mean shooting at rag tag millitia's like bokoharam. Which they are not even able to do effectively.

1. EGYPT

Egypt is a country in the north of Africa with a staggering population of 94 million people and has faced major political crises in the recent past but this has not changed its position as a leading African country when it comes to military strength. A significant percentage of Egypt’s population (over 35 million) are fit for active military service and more than 1.5 million individuals reach the military age every year. With almost 5000 tanks including armoured fighting vehicles, self propelled guns and towed artillery, Egypt is a force to reckon with when it comes to Africa. Having a total of 1,100 aircraft including 245 helicopters, 343 fighters, 390 trainer aircraft and 28 mine warfare, 84 serviceable air ports and a budget of over $4bn pumped into Egypt’s defence every 365 days make Egyptian military the strongest among other countries in Africa.

Why not?

When a country like Israel is breathing down their neck?
Why be enemies with Israel, who have nukes? NUKES!!!

This is where having the right allies trumps having a huge military stockpile any day!

Lol...No. It was men made up of the NA during Abacha's era and not these sissies we have today. The denial of the West as to crediting it to the UN was one of the things that made Abacha fall out with America and Britain hence they perceived him as a common enemy
Re: 10 African Countries With The Highest Military Strength And Fire Power by OreMI22: 2:57pm On Apr 26, 2015
South Africa and Ethiopia don't have more fire power than Nigeria. I don't know when this ranking was done.

Besides, ONLY United States operates the B52 stratofortress strategic bomber.

Not even UK, France or Germany talkless of South Africa. So please remove that picture from south african profile.
