If you read well, it was clearly stated the APC had said AIT is free to cover buhari's activity.

I guess if you will justify yourself, the first thing in your article should condemn the act of AIT as I supported freedom of information in this.

Let me ask you also, does AIT have the right to deny one of his civic right? Does it have the right to condemn ones personality?

Hatred makes you attack GMB in a partial and bias manner, but you know what, he keep flying.

#Haters are liable to die young.
My brother just leave them alone. To be honest (no grudge against barcanista) I wonder the type of human being he/she is always antagonise the APC and their lots.
I'm a true man and will always stand for the truth, but the opposition and their families thought they would won the elections with the impunity all over the place but God pass them TANoids and their godfather were shamed.

Lie mohammed is telling stories and denying many. Medicine after death. Because PDP and nigerians cried out against autocratism and illegal gagging of he press Lie moh and APC quickly retraced their steps. Interesting bec this shows that pdp will be a very good opposition to always put Apc on their toes. What was aired on Channels Tv during the canpaign about Gej is worse than that of buhari therefore both of them err. One side should not blame another. We are still waiting to see buhari's authentic WASC Certificate . Take hear one chance regime in waiting

Honestly ,the General is too gentle... AIT is a disgrace to proper journalism.
Any way their fvck up will be properly treated after May 29 2015.

If I have an event/program or any other public function, do I not have right to bar any journalist/broadcaster from covering my event?

The appropriate thing for Buhari to do is to seek legal redress or petition the regulatory body. He has NO right to bar, ban or restrict AIT irrespective of how he feels about them. This is not a military regime.

It came in the news yesterday that the team of president-elect of the federal republic of Nigeria, General Muhammadu Buhari bans the African Independent Television (AIT) from covering his engagement until issues of ethics and standards are sorted out.

Today, the APC released a press statement by their national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Muhammed which states the AIT and other accredited media houses are free to cover the activities of General Muhammadu Buhari.

The earlier news had created some widespread speculations all over the country which led to some Nigerians questioning how democratic the action was. One of the many critics was a nairaland user with the moniker, Barcanista.

I must confess, "Press Freedom" and "Freedom of Speech" is very crucial for the growth of democracy anywhere in the world, infact it is the lifeblood of democracy. Freedom of Information is one of the factors that differenciate "Democracy" from "Autocracy".

As provided by the law, their are limitation to the Freedom of Press.
As a result, freedom of expression is not absolute and can be limited when it conflicts with other rights.
International law declares freedom of expression to be the rule. Limitations are the exception, permitted only to protect:
* the rights or reputations of others
* national security
* public order
* public health
* morals.

The African Independent Television (AIT) with their attacks on General Muhammadu Buhari breached the "Ethics and Standards of Journalism".

Journalism ethics and standards comprise principles of ethics and of good practice as applicable to the specific challenges faced by journalists. Historically and currently, this subset of media ethics is widely known to journalists as their professional " code of ethics" or the "canons of journalism".

These are some of the principles in the "code of ethics" or "canons of journalism" and how the AIT violated them.

Principle of Truthfulness: Truth is most often used to mean being in accord with factor reality or fidelity to an original or to a standard or ideal. The commonly understood opposite of truth is falsehood, which, correspondingly, can also take on a logical, factual, or ethical meaning.
The AIT has violated this principle by broadcasting some hate documentaries against the likes of Buhari, Tinubu and Osinbajo. In Buhari's documentary, some of the false story cooked up there were:
1. Fela NEVER mentioned Buhari in $N2.8B scandal. He mentioned OBJ. AIT edited that part off.
2. Buhari did not expel Ghanians from Nigeria. Shagari of the NPN did. AIT made a FALSE assertion.
3. Gloria Okon did not disappear under Buhari it was under IBB and Dele Giwa was murdered for it.
4. Fela’s mother the GREAT Funmilayo Kuti died after OBJ Kalakuta in 1978 Buhari came into power in 1984.

Principle of Accuracy: Accuracy and precision are defined in terms of systematic and random errors. The more common definition associates accuracy with systematic errors and precision with random errors. Another definition, advanced by ISO, associates trueness with systematic errors and precision with random errors, and defines accuracy as the combination of both trueness and precision.
The AIT lacks accuracy in it hate broadcast against Buhari, the attack against him lack actual facts, some of whic where:
* Buhari did not expel Ghanians from Nigeria. Shagari of the NPN did. AIT made a FALSE assertion.
* Fela’s mother the GREAT Funmilayo Kuti died after OBJ Kalakuta in 1978 Buhari came into power in 1984.
* AIT alleged that Buhari has been losing since 1999. This is a lie. Buhari’s first shot was in 2003. In 1999 Chief Olu Falae of ANPP/AD contested against Obj.

Principle of Impartiality: Impartiality also called evenhandedness or fair-mindedness is a principle of justice holding that decisions should be based on objective criteria, rather than on the basis of bias, prejudice, or preferring the benefit to one person over another for improper reasons.
It was clear to all sane Nigerians that AIT were partial and bias during the presidential campaign. They give out hate speech against the APC and were very friendly towards to ruling party, the PDP.

AIT also violated the principle of fairness by bringing in Buhari's late wife and his daughter into the broadcasted clips. It's an attack to personal liberty which a citizen is entitle to. AIT even went further by disobeying a court injunction which stopped them from broadcasting those documentaries.

AIT also breached the Priciples of Objectivity, Principles of Public accountablity, Principle of societal acceptance and Principle of moral conduct.

I can't really state the constitutional purnishment meant for the violation of this act, but I clearly understand the wise saying which says; "No offender goes unpurnished".
If GMB is aggrieved, he should go to court rather than trying to sneak in decree 4 through the back door. A word is enough for the wise.

He can bar them from coverage of un-official events pertaining to himself without recourse for legal restriction, which is exactly what he did.
He has the right to grant personal favour to AIT

People like you should understand that there are legal checks and balances within the constitution from where GMB will derive the constitutional power to preside over the affairs of Nigeria as from May 29. Kindly avail yourself of the necessary legal education before coming here to advertise your ignorance. The highest thing your GMB can do to AIT is to sue them to court, anything more than that will result in disastrous consequences for both GMB and his party. Under a constitutional democracy, the media who are rightly described as the 4th estate of the realm, will ultimately decimate the political class of there ever was to be a war between the two. GMB would do himself a world of good by desisting from embarking on such an ill-advised war.

Really? Although I was in Norway when the whole thing was happening. This is truly a breach of ethics and standard of journalism on the side of AIT. They should borrow leaf from Channels TV.

I would suggest that all GMB supporters in this forum shoud boycot AIT programs and ask other to do so,the campaign should be on, until AIT comes out openly to apologise.

Why is the Nigerian state committing so much resources in protecting the president-elect. GMB ceased to be a private citizen right from the day he decided to declare his interest to run for public office. People like you with these funny commentaries, cause unnecessary confusion on social media. Let me spell it out in plain English, GMB is now under the greatest amount of media scrutiny that can be imagined, and the earlier he gets used to it, the better for him and his party.

AIT like Esau had decided to negotiate with its media birthright. Many Nigerians are no longer ready to follow their programmes. Penny wise, pound foolish. In this era of decoders/digital broadcasting with countless stations, people have choices...and if any station decides to add unpalatable ingredients to its contents, the viewers also have the remotes in their hands. Simple.
Re: AIT Hate Attacks On Buhari; A Violation Of Ethics And Standards Of Journalism. by MAYOWAAK: 9:23pm On Apr 28, 2015
You guys are completely confusing issues. Let me clarify a bit so you'll understand better.

1. Killing an unfavourable story
2. Arresting, detaining or harassing pressmen for publishing a story
3. Enacting laws that restrict the powers of the press

All of the above = clamping down on press freedom

1. Refusing to be interviewed by a particular media house
2. Not allowing a media house access to certain events or buildings on the basis of security, confidentiality or safety
3. Deciding which media houses to release a press statement to

All of the above do not constitute clamping down on press freedom.

You guys weren't up in arms when AIT was daily airing that disparaging documentary peppered with falsehood and wickedness designed to tarnish the image of GMB. Where was your indignation then?

Mr Simbi, whether Sahara reporters is based in Westeros or in Gryfendor, barring/banning a media house from covering the activities of the in coming government or the President elect of a "democratic government" because it doesn't suit you is wrong.

AIT should apologise to Buhari and his family and all decent Nigerians for committing broadcasting harakiri! They should also train their presenters to speak good english and not molue english! Channels is far better than the AIT!

Nice post....... Just say "Amen" to this prayer;

One day, a media house will accuse you of killing your mother and someone like you will call it their "constitutional duty".

Say "Amen" and the case it settled, then I agree it is constitutional.

So there is limitations to freedom of press o and freedom of expression has boundaries because of APC.

Yet, insult your president and ridiculing his position is free to air. someone only yesternite still referred to him as the most stupid president ever. Yet, if I say Buhari is a goat, he is an old maggot with with no brains to preside over Nigeria or nigerians, you say?
so saying something as a private citizen and airing something on satellite TV is the same? Guy, re-examine what you are drinking.
