Long distance relationships are proving very important now adays considering that many people start dating and later on their partners would relocate overseas to study/work etc. This would create a scenario in whcih either a long distance is formed or the termination of the relationship.

This dilema is common in the nigerian situation where many people date from university and then the guy or girl decides to look for positive ventures outside of nigeria.

The question now is: Do these long distance relationship work, what is the possibility that the man/woman will return to their spouse in the future, is there not a possibility that the seperated couples could find lovers within their immediate vicinity?

I had a friend who had a girlfriend that moved to st lucia to study medicine. That relationship has been on and off....

What is your opinion on this? Are any fellow NL's involved in long distance relationships and does it really work?

When two mentally matured individuals are involved why not? Individuals who are not connected only by emotions but also by their souls. . . Meaning, they both have spent alot of energy building themselves that non of the two parties can imagine starting off with another person. Long distance relationship takes conscious effort to maintain meaning all sides to the relationship are properly working including geniune Love, Openness in communication, Trust, indepth Understanding and more importantly support. . And now speaking as a psychologist that I am, I personally believe it can work hugely depending on the attachement type of both individuals prior to depature or before physical seperation. And again who knows values and religious belief can also be key. . . Contact me later or do some research on - human attachement theory. Am sure that will hand you a better understanding of how to sustain distant partnership. But like it or not it is not going to be cake walk and such relationships are not for superficial minds.
Here, I will hand you a clue just in case ''Nigerians who go abroad after the age of 24 will find it difficult to get a spouse especially if they are females who were in a relationship before they left'' so no fear.

Let's not kid ourselves, it's very hard to keep up especially if the situation doesn't give the ppl involved opportunity to see once in awhile
