So Ekiti should have the same number of representatives as Lagos right?

Or okay, if you mean region, the NC should have the same as NW right?

These calls for federalism are not the way it goes. If you do not have the population you cannot call for the same representation as those who have double or triple your population.
By region I mean North, West and East (going back to the default). The region can create as many states and sub-groups as they like within themselves. But they must have equal representation in the central parliament.

Let's drift the argument a bit towards the contribution of each state to the federation account. The North virtually contributes nothing. Absolute ZERO. Just a giant parasite of ingrate magnitude.
It's painful when u see how the leadership of the country is tilted to empower only the hausafulanis. Checkout the nos of reps in non hausafulani part of the North . It's made to be so smaller that keep them as slave or puns in their chess game of politics.

The country needs to be dissolved.
I pray it happen in my lifetime.
The bold is just the plain truth. The injustice is so glaring

I have lived in Kaduna and Katsina states! And I'm now in Port Harcourt! Believe me, Port Harcourt is several times more populated than both states mentioned! There is a grand conspiracy to subdue others through fraudulent population statistics, and it's uncharitable for the so-called "progressives" not to call attention to such a monumental fraud!!

abduljabbar4:
I honestly don't know the population on rivers state but I believe katsina and kaduna are more populated. I'm not saying that I know. You should also learn to consider the size of the states

I am happy you mention Nasarawa state. Do you know that they are about THIRTY DIFFERENT ETHNIC GROUPS IN NASARAWA STATE? The ibos are the only indigenous tribe in Abia.

How have the various ethinic nationalities in Nasarawa been 'represented' in the Nigerian political equation? They include:

Fulani
Eggon
Egbira
Afo
Agatu
Akeye
Alago
Baribari
Bassa
Gado
Gbagyi etc

Igbos are a majority tribe! Look through reality not a haze of insecurity! He was comparing commensurate to expected population size!!!

pazeinza:
The ibos have been marginalised, right? What about the Junkuns, Efiks, Kamberis, Bacchamas, Tivs, Momoye, Shuwa Arabs, Higgis, and all other members of the more than 250 ethnic groups In Nigeria? I guess they are all irrelevant

The problem with this module is that it will not work.

Nigeria has way too many tribes to have three groups. Do you even know what will happen during elections?

Take Lagos as an example. You can say it is a primarily Yoruba state and bla bla bla but even within the people who claim ancestry to Lagos, there are the Egun, Ijebus and Aworis. And all three are always arguing about who gets to get what position which is why you have silly issues like Ambode is from Epe Or Obanikoro is from Ikorodu etc.

Now you want to group Bayelsa with Anambra. If you don't know, Anambra is a state with strong cultural backings and have come to see themselves as the "Pure Igbos". You will simply have Anambra Indigenes edging out everyone else.

You yourself have thrown insults at people of Igbo descent and you did seem proud to do so maybe not deep down but due to political interests so just imagine you guys in the same region.

Ultimately, the "Sudan Solution" will be applied to Nigeria. Let the Izon, the Itshekiri, the Urhobo, the Ogoni and the Ilaje enjoy in full measure the crude oil that lies under the soil of their ancestors, leaving the rest of the nation to look inward for their own resources to sustain the new countries that will devolve when drunken Lord Lugard's failed experiment at tribal unity is finally flushed down the toilet of history.

The west of Nigeria can reap handsomely from its bumper cocoa harvests, in its revived role as an agricultural breadbasket. The north, with its 100 zillion imaginary occupants, can certainly thrive on her legendary groundnut pyramids as it did before crude oil was discovered in the far away Niger Delta, and the East whose inhabitants rank among the most academically brilliant on Planet Earth, can become the Silicon Valley of Africa, where technological innovation creates wealth on a scale never before imagined.

There is nothing wrong with going separate ways for all the ill-fitting pieces of Nigeria's current jigsaw puzzle. Let it go. Just let it go, y'all.

So because the ibos are a majority tribe they should be given a special treatment right? But i thought he ws talking about equality

The Shuwa Arabs should be neglected

The Bacchama should be abandoned

The Kemberi should be forsaken

so where then is the equality when the minoritites arent attended to?

Why do some of you feel threatened whenever it has to do with a United SS/SE? FYI the days of acrimony between some SS and the Igbos is OVER! The Ijaw Youth Council that has always held to an unfavorable belief against the Igbos since post 1970 had to go to the Igbo nation to apologise in February 2015. In fact, everyone is talking unity.

My guy the so-called Igbo dominating threat is a staled one. Very staled! And my past perception towards the Igbos is also staled and denounced. Stop crying more than the bereaved. I insist on Eastern region, you should leave us to our troubles. Have you heard of "Lower Niger"? Go figure...

They hate Barcanista because he is unravelling their so-called progressive agenda! I used to read stuff on Nairaland without making much comments, but "the progressives" made me a convert with their hypocrisy and intolerance for divergent opinion suitably couched with fine speech and water-tight arguments! If anyone is a bigot, it is those pointing fingers at Barcanista...they forget that four others are pointing right back at them!

The Shuwa Arabs can settle their differences with their Fulani brothers. We in the Lower Niger we have our own groups Urhobo, Ijaw, Igbo, Esan, Ogoni, Isoko, Efik, Ibibio etc and we will solve our internal challenges. We are talking of balance of regional representatives

The Shuwa arabs havent been given any political position since the creation of Nigeria

All i can say, is that all these offices were created by the nothern military oligarch at will, during their reign, part of what have made our democratic structure so large and expensive to maintain. I am hoping tinubu and his south-western allies in the APC in-coming goverment will resurcitate the fight for a workable true federalism for nigeria, possibly they might win it by applying wisdom and tactfullness, and convincing the northerners on the benefit of self-rule and determination. Nobody can make you grow, except you are determine to make the sacrifice.
Re: The Political Inequality In Nigeria by internetpirate: 9:15am On May 01, 2015
So, Igbos should keep quiet while Hausas and Yorubas marginalise them via concocted census figures! What you may not know is that what you call Igbo is an amalgam of various tribes and dialects!! Minorities exist there too!

More so, if a major tribe like the Igbos can be allowed to be marginalised, where is the hope for minorities?

The proponents of Lower Niger Congress did brilliant job. The call for referendum should be pursued if the Nigeria state is unwilling to put an end to the injustice

You mean the same way the Afenifere and OPC "endorsed" President Jonathan and while you danced about it, people who knew there is a disconnect between leaders and the citizens of this country told you it wont amount to anything but you and Ngwakwe wouldn't listen.

I propose resource control to as high as 80%.
Each STATE maintain its own resources and manages it
Treat each state like the subsidiaries of a parent company and let then function as such
That is the only way any form of federalism can work. Your talk about regions is as silly as your insults hurled at people of Igbo descent.

Now you go figure.

Wait why am I here sef? I make it a point of duty to avoid bigot offline and online.

The title of your thread reads 'POLITICAL INEQUALITY IN NIGERIA'. I dont know how/where this fictitious Lower Niger came in.

The Shuwa Arabs have suffered enough political inequality in Nigeria, its high time they are given a fair share of natioanl recognition too

The thing is that nobody is begging anybody to consider amendment, it is a growing demand that will either be met through round table or be resolved via referendum.
