@slimmy05

Top of the day to all in the house, I applied for Phd in Health Informatics to 4 schools. As we are all aware, this period is admission decision time for most schools. Unfortunately I have so far, received rejection from 2 schools (Minnesota and Utah).

Luckily, however, I was given admission by Univ of Iowa. Initially the admission came without funding , but when they sensed my reluctance of accepting such, they decided to give a year fellowship for my first year so as to be able to concentrate on course works and my performance will determine my eligibility for TAs and GAs for subsequent years. Although this is not my best choice and since I am not having a stable job at the moment, I will be accepting the offer.

Nevertheless, I would appreciate contribution or information regards the school, life generally in Iowa, hustling in USA, realistic job prospects, approach to visa application and any other appropriate comments. Still awaiting decision from Uni of Texas, this would have been my preferred choice provided it comes with funding, which I doubt.

For those that are experiencing rejections, it’s part and parcel of the process, don’t give up!!
Congrats bro, where did u do ur MS n in what field/program. Goodluck with ur visa app.

Please note that not all U.S. schools accept IELTS (that's de-facto a U.K. English proficiency test).

You should first confirm if your intended school accepts IELTS or not, make you no go throway money.

Harsh?... Point out where the harsh words are OR you just want to type...
If you need her to point it out,here is it...i quote "Yeah your friend must be a clown, At 28, going for an Associate degree , in a community college, for summer, he's a very big clown!."

You dont have to call his friend a clown all because of that.....you should know most Nigerians wanting to travel is not all about the school but for a greener pasture so what you should have done is to give him a proper advice and way forward instead of those harsh words and insults.
He felt going for that will cost him less money(which i believe he dont intend schooling there though) but he was wrong because such will mean easy refusal.

Please lets try and be constructive with our words at times even if some people are a pain in d ass but the truth is we learn in everyday of our life.
