NigerMan1:how did you know what i wanted to say.. The first and real settlers in nigeria are the benins their only failure was not colonizing and imposing their language on their conquests.. They felt their language was not meant for strangers and aliens as the were thick traditionalists |

Okute / okuta awgu / ogun oka / oka Our linguists should do us all a favour and produce dictionaries that highlight these commonalities between all Nigerian and even West African languages. Ewe in Ghana is Yoruba descended and the cadence will convince you that Yoruba is being spoken until you try to make sense of the words. They still retain euphemisms like saying the king has gone into the attic when a king dies though. ControlX: |

PastorPLC:Brainless pastor. I think you saw where it was written that they settled in a Bush, just like everyone migrates to a land and call it home. Just happened they settled amongst the evil sons of Biafra. Due to intra-tribal wars, they later left the place to settle down here in Ugbodu which is a shortened form of Ugbodumila, which means bush saved me in English Language.” |

Some people keep complaining that a good number of Yoruba people are passing this thread after reading, am sorry I will rather pass thi spost than engage in intertribal exchhange with people...all I know is that. A lot of the history people are sharing have been distorted by people who pass them ...illiteracy really affected Africans...God help us |

absoluteSuccess:::--Do not mind him. He forgot to ask his grandfather his origin and he is now claiming scholarship. His post showed that his fore father was a yoruba son that ran away from Ile- ife to the present day ile -ibinu (land of anger) bini. He wants to distort history without knowing that some of us KNOW and can SPEAK Oluku mi( my friend) , Itshekiri both in Delta state, Owo and Supare in Ondo state. We know our relations in Usen (Edo state), Oluku mi and Itshekiri in Delta and Owo & Supare -Akoko in Ondo. state. Thanks. |

illiad1:The Yorubas wrote their history and also the history of the Benins. Doing so they distorted the Benin History and belittle it. Many confuse Benin City with Benin Empire. |

UnknownT:Of all the languages of numerous slaves took into slavery in america, how many survive and thrift like the Yoruba language and culture? Even back home many of your people born in S.west can speak Igbo. The fact that Yoruba have strong affinity to cultural heritage is well known world over.... Every the go they retain their unique identity without threating their host in anyway! Knew many white people who are Ifa worshippers who bear Yoruba name and speak Yoruba fluently as mother language. Can you point to any other language with such privilge on africa as whole |

UnknownT:First of all, olukumi migrated to Aniochaland, not the other way around. Our people accepted nicely, even accommodated them nice enough by providing them their own place in which they can call a home...that's why I always laugh whenever Yoruba run their mouth on their so called accomodation of igbos in lagos , blah blah. The problem is SE Igbos refuse to learn about other igbo territory outside of their own. If they did, they would have known about this history and use it to shut up that unaccomodated tribe that keep shouting everywhere about their accommodation of others in lagos. Mtchewww. Anyway, the reason olukumi dropped their language and started speaking igbo is because as you said they were surrounded by Aniocha clans, igbo speaking, and in other to trade with the surrounding tribes they had to learn the language. They've equally mixed up with Aniocha hence today they don't bare anything yoruba related and sees themselves as Aniocha as well. Before any SE igbo start attacking me, I'm Aniocha and I know Aniocha are Igbos, we barely have deniers within our people. Just cause I wrote Aniocha clans does not remove our tribal identity. Just want to make that disclaimer before I'm ganged up on. |
