I don't work as a programmer.
I learnt programming outside the class.
What I make from ads and mobile app on store is enough to give me.three square meals at least for now

As long as you have a personal computer, internet access, books and the right softwares and also the ability to solve problems.. Programming shouldn't be a problem.

Huh? Really?

Don't let anyone deceive you o!

While its true as it is written... 'seest thou a man diligent in his work? He shall stand before kings' ergo know-how is the selling point in IT... Certifications are used as a quick way to filter applications.

Other companies see it as a statement of character and more times than not it would get you through the door to showcase your skill

That is arrant nonsense, and a reason why many Nigerian programmers are poor and remain poor. I once had that thinking, therefore I became extra good - in fact too good for my own liking (I am a web-developer that can use multiple technologies - all the way from asp, perl, php, asp.net, MEAN STACK, at the same time a software developer (whether windows/mac osx), and also with a very strong foot in native mobile application development) - all that one na just tales by moonlight, yeah, it did not help me due to that arrant nonsense thinking of - if you are good.

Yeah, even if you are good - the naija companies will offer you nonsense salary. The last company that tried to employ me wanted to pay me 100k / month.

Abduletudaye:

Huh? Really?
Well, na so we see am o.

The summary of all this is that - the programmers that make money the most in Nigeria ARE NOT EMPLOYED ON A MONTHLY SALARY.

You need to start from the begining - which is to acquire your basic skills. Then you climb up the ladder, nothing wrong with doing employment work mind you - just that it is better to be an entrepreneur if you have got what it takes.
