Facebook: The Undeniable Truth by Nobody:
I am going to try to make this as short and straight forward as possible. Facebook has been described as one of the social medium where people of all ages, especially the youths share part of their lives through updating their status and uploading pictures. Also Facebook provides a platform for comments on the updated status. But come to think of it, when I look at these updates and pictures, people only upload what they want us to see.

People only upload beautiful and handsome pictures and also plain and hyped words, thereby making people believe that everything is always al-right, but in reality it's not. Nobody uploads through their status or pictures of when they were molested or raped,in relation to girls, by their own father or someone else. Imagine if a female updates her status saying “I just got raped and beaten by my father, it hurts and am going to kill him ", and she backs it up with pictures, that would-be fascinating right? At least by so doing, she can be dissuaded by her friends from doing so, or someone close to her geographically can quickly help.

Nobody uploads pictures or through their status, their failure in waec or jamb. Imagine if someone updates his status saying “I have been jambed by jamb, I scored 100,but I will try again and prepare harder next time". That would be encouraging right? But nobody will be bold enough to do such. Everyone wants to be described or identified as a smart and intelligent individual when in reality u are trying your best or u are not.

Nobody updates that they passed a subject or other subjects or jamb or waec because they cheated. Why? Because they know it is morally and academically wrong and socially not acceptable. Imagine someone updates his status saying" Kai, I murdered that exam, God I thank you O!" when in reality u cheated. Forcing people to think that u read and depended on God.

Some claim they are Christians or Muslims and upload their status saying“Jesus/Allah I love you “but 2 hours before and 1 hour after the update u committed sin. We just want people to think we are religiously upright and moral.

The truth of the matter is that nobody wants to upload or update things that would make them look bad, poor, weak, ugly, or suffering. Everybody wants to upload things that is supposedly good, making them look rich- while u are managing,strong- while u need help, beautiful- no comment and enjoying life.

I am not saying that it is bad to upload good looking pics of ourselves, but the truth of the matter is that those pics or updates don't always reflect our true selves and our challenges and problems. People just assume everything is okay and u are popping, because ur uploads and updates are looking good.

In summary, I conclude that Facebook is a social medium where most times, people only upload or update what they want us to see and thereby distorting reality.A lie can be updated and everyone can be deceived.

That's why you're not supposed to take anything that happens on social networks seriously, like some people do here on NL(I Pray they get an excellent employment).

Almost everyone lives a fake life online and that's how it'll continue.
A girl takes over 50 pictures and out of them all, there must be that single picture that mistakenly(or miraculously) makes her look astonishing....phew!! That'd be her display/profile picture!

A guy updating 'maga don pay', while soaking the last cup of garri left in his cupboard.

I pity people who get heart attacks for others' fabulous online activities....Just let what happens in Vegas stay in Vegas joor.

Very true. Facebook and the rest of social media is a world of make believe. Almost every user want people to think they are the best and are living the good life. People just want approval and validation of others to feel good about themselves. But a very large percentage of such people are far from being what they are portraying and want people to accept.

I was reading a piece in a magazine last week and a new research is suggesting that most active users on social media are symptomatic of depression. This I think is true. What else can cause a person to seek for others approval of themselves when in reality they aren't happy with themselves?. One needs to be happy of oneself and not give a damn about others opinion of them.

This brings to me to the reason why I believe online relationship is a fable until one meet the person at the other end. Whatever impression someone is creating online is likely the positives, and not until you meet them you can never tell who they truly are.

I'm not going to quote anybody but having read up all the differing comments/opinions above mine and looking at a 'CERTAIN' photo, any intelligent person WILL be able to tell that someone just told a BLATANT lie to epitomize/corroborate the information the OP has just written...

It's so unfortunate!
