Your team had done well this season in all competition but I expected them to have done much better in the UCL..

1985 under 17 team. They were superb, wonderful. They defeated hard fighting germans, 2 goals to nil, in china. I watched the match live on t.v

I didn't watch the 1980s and the rest.
I wasn't football inclined in 2007.
Football had become a religion to me before 2013, and I watched the u17 team, so I give it to the 2013 team.

Dem neva born me by 1985, so i no fit comment on dat one.In 1993 i was still below 10 and so no detailed analysis of dat one too.Btw 2007 and 2013,i will give it to 2007 not because they are more organized but because they met seemingly stiffer oppositions, not 4getting coach Adeyemi Tella.

I think the 2013 team was the best I've ever seen from an under-17 group because they were heads and shoulder above their mates . Their team play was very coherent(they play as a unit) and they were very devasting and ruthless in front of goal.. Of course the 1993 team was also a great one and most of them went on to play for the Super Eagles. Let see what happens with this lot(the 2013 team).

Forget that man up there

2013 team scored the highest number of goals in the competition history

What then is he talking about, the team is also the youngest Nigeria U17 team

With a jogo bonito ..total football style of play

Amongst these successful Nigeria under 17 team, which will you consider the greatest? ??
A. 1985
B.1993
C.2007
D.2013.

Japan'93 was really awesome and complete squad. Nigeria played with a lot of charisma and never conceeded a goal till the knock out stages and scored all goals before opponents could. Oruma, Kanu, Mobi, Babayaro, Karibe Ogigwe, and so on were so great in terms of ball control and played typical Nigerian football.

The most interesting thing about the team is that some of the players went ahead to win the Atlanta'96, taught the world how to play attacking football. At a time, Bonfere Jo played 4-2-4 formation against Brazil when we were 3-1 down, luckily for us, the Brazilians benched Ronaldo thinking they had already won.

Sir, I must confess that I am really learning from you, I have learnt a lot from you. You are one of the finest sports analyst on Nairaland..
Wao, so he was really very good. I wonder how our midfield would have been having a stiff competition with the likes of Etim, Okocha and Oruma.I can't fathom why my elder bro prefers Oruma to Okocha in midfield.. lolxxxxx. .
We are closely watching out a Young lad known as Habib Makonjuala who plays for Chelsea U16.. He also a very good ball juggler who is also skillful on the ball. He even made the team to the victorious u17 squad in 2013.Manu Garba said of him that if he uses 40%of his skills, he can outshine Jay Jay. . But the Lad is not a team player, he is more of an entertainer. . Lol

Habib Makanjuola doesn't play for Chelsea anymore...he's with Birmingham FC @ the moment.

In other words, I strongly believe that we need a well-tactical Dutch coach in the senior team who can bring back our pattern of play or have the same philosophy of coaching with that of Japan'93 team

The 1985 team which was an U16 tournament not U17 was my favourite because in the final FIFA didnt want Nigeria to win the cup, a very harsh red card which came out from nowhere, W Germany piled on the pressure any tackle in the 18yrd box will lead to a penalty but Victor Igbinoba scored a world class goal

I completely agree with you. We cannot discontinuance the 1985 squad. They were the pacesetters in global competition for Nigeria in football.
I'll be back to back my claim.

Seems you didn't watch the 1993 team. The team scored 14 goals in the group matches and conceded none. Australia (2-0), Canada (8-0) and Argentina (4-0).

Going on to win all the remaining knock out phases 2-1 each.

In all they scored 20 goals conceded 3, an average of 3.3 goals per match.

The team was a total team, the best Nigeria ever had in any age group competition, from defence to midfield to attack, a total unit. Strength, speed and skills "all join".

No wonder few of them went on to greater heights both at home and abroad.
I watched the 1993 Class of the G Eaglets,in fact I followed the team through their camping at Rojenny Oba,Anambra State to their tour of the Netherlands, qualifiers and Tournament proper, uptill today I can name most of the Squad members more than any set,so I believe am as much qualified as anybody to make a call on who is the greatest Class of all and without any doubt in my mind, the Class of 2013 is the GREATEST Nigeria have produced, they were YOUNGER,Scored more Goals 26,the highest ever in U17 history, more of a Team, more consistent in the Tournament, more SWAGGER(we'll beat you and there's nothing you can do about it),the 1993 set arguably have the better individual players and that's about it..

The final of Japan'93 was very beautiful. Ghana thought they gonna win even before the match. They committed defensive error and we capitalized on it to score the second goal. The match was about to finish and they were crying. Fanny Amu, sorry for my spelling had to signal to our boys to take it easy that Ghanaians are our African brothers, so we allowed them to score a goal cheesy

Some fantastic analysis here....and really brings back some fond memories...like watching the second goal scored by our no 9 in the 1993 U17 final in me grandad's house...and jumping up for joy.

Great team? 1993 wins hands down. 2007 should have been a great team too...but y'know....

As a person that followed all the U17 teams of Nigeria from inception in 1985, I can cate gorically tell you the 2013 team was the best and the youngest,
my second best team was the Japan 93 team and we all saw what they later achieved.

The worse is the 2007 one because of age cheating, the average true age in that team in reality is 28 that is why as at today you hardly hear of anyone of them.

The 2013 team is so promising and young though I cannot vouch for them all being under 17 then but am optimistic of them. Doing well at future assignments.

The 1993 team was spot on. No wonder the core players in that team also formed the nucleus of players that won the Atlanta Olympic Gold medal.

Kanu, Oruma, Babayaro, Oparaku on my mind.

You can also say they are successful by the number of them that went on to progress to the Super Eagles and represent the country at the highest level - The World Cup.

For the later teams we still waiting.
all those over-age players them

Dah!!! I didn't watch 1993 squad.

Lemme talk of de one I watched. Dats 2007, 2009 and 2013.

I even prefer 2009 to 2007, only dat 2009 lost in the finals, while 2007 won it.

But, the best for me is 2013. U could juz enjoy urself while watching those guys play.
U juz had confidence in dem.
A complete team.

The 2007 set were good,I'll give it to them, but they were a BUNCH of OLD Men Manhandling LITTLE Boys, remembered their group match against Haiti, fellow Blacks like Us,the difference in AGE was so glaring it was Simply Embarrassing, the greatest AGE Cheats in Nigerian Football History..

Don't talk about cheating. Every country cheats. Like Argentina. Some of their players couldn't play anymore coz of old age.
