Why Are Apple Systems So Expensive? by BeloHorizonte14: 11:40pm On May 08, 2015
What is so special about apple systems; are they in any way different from other high range Hp,Lenovo,Dell core i7 systems? Do they offer more than other brands of laptop?

Also, does one have to buy 'apps' on it as it is with Iphones?

Is it (Nigerian)user friend?

Thank you.

The brand (Apple); the hardware: they use correct hardware which make their devices last; the mac operating system; etc.. These qualities also make the devices have a fairly high resell price as the prices don't depreciate so easily like other brands (hp, sony, samsung et al).. That's what I belive makes their devices so expensive.

They are expensive for no reason. I can tell you right now that no Apple laptop offered by Apple is as fast as my Lenovo Thinkpad. You are paying for the fanaticism and becoming a bandwagoner

what correct hardware ? please explain ...
the Mac os ? please explain !! The underlying code of OS X is based on free codes licensed from the FreeBSD version of UNIX and Linux is more or less a Unix clone..... apple products are expensive only because of the name "APPLE ".and probably Steve jobs influence to budding entrepreneurs ......

most of their products can't stand with their PC counterparts(I mean the expensive ones in MacBook's range not the 50k Hp you see around )....like fulaman said you are paying to become a fanboy grin

Well, you don't have you own one to know how it works. But, technically, you don't know what I'm talking about.

They're very good and last long but overpriced. Like designer items, you're not just paying for the item itself but the brand as well.

I have used Macs extensively and a similarly priced PC is better.

Technically, it is you who doesn't understand. What does a Mac have that a Windows laptop at the same price point doesn't have?

Value varies from ppl to ppl. When it comes to premium mobile computers espically the mackbook pro not the air I think apple kills the competition. Not because there's anything special about it but because it's a perfect blend of hardware and software take note I mean the ordinary power users. Not the professional power users like 4k video editors, CAD users I mean just photoshoppers and light video editing. Now mac osx espically for mobile has some distinct advantages ike its awesome trackpad. This is not hardware based but on os level microsoft lived in denial for years, about this During the windows 7 era.
Now apple hardware advantages is a mixture of the lackadaisical attitude of the windows OEM. Let's take Hp for example HP has about 30 diffrent variations of laptops this make even though they sell more product than apple, but they have a lower bidding power for components. Like the macbook retina display, the imac 5k display apple 5 variations of the macbook from pro to air. This gives apple a higher bidding power on specific components. Espically the premium ones. And I agree they charge exhobitantly for their product but that because there is no competition. And to crown it all the hardware to software works way better than windows. Same thing with their phones and tabs. But I agree ones you cross over to the power user then the apple flaws. Starts showing.

Of course I can neva pay the apple tax, so I am a full fledged windows user and what I do CAD, apple does not exis here. All in all microsoft has to fine tune windows and the OEMs must setup their design too. But I am afraid the tile based design of windows is not helping either. A great machine is not just hardware but the software and hardware flawlessy working together apple clearly beats windows in these areas and that's what the average joe cares about.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W-series laptop (mobile workstation with discrete graphics) for engineers and people like you whom use CAD. It has 28gb of RAM and a very powerful core i7 processor. I have never had any issue with windows or the software running on Windows pro 64-bit. So I'm sorry if I disagree with you there.

If you know anything about keyboards, it also has the best in class keyboard as Thinkpad laptops are renowned for their keyboards.

The display is a 3K display. I'm not much of a gamer but most games play on high settings without issue due to the Nvidia Quadro K1100m/2100m.

In regards to touchpads again Thinkpad laptops have excellent touchpads, but I'm more of a mouse user. You must compare premium Windows devices to premium Apple devices. No Apple has more than 16gb of RAM for example.

Apple Laptops, I mean the MacBook Pro series, they are simply the best not because they so good, but because they don't have much piracy to deal with. Most of the Laptops in Nigeria now are pirated, I mean 95% of the Laptops.
Also now in Nigeria, we are more concerned about the PRICE and not the QUALITY. An original corei7 Processor goes for 60,000 - 70,000 naira, depending on the clocking speed and so on.
If you buy an HP of corei7 in Nigeria for less than 200k you should know it's not a genuine corei7, though you will be seeing it displays as corei7 but its not. There are ways to actually determine true cores of your processor and not just by checking system properties.
We still have a long way to go in Nigeria.. May God help us.

So you are telling me there is a way to fool msinfo32? I don't want to sound like a newbie because I'm a network/protocol analyst/engineer. But I don't think there is a way in the registry to do so, but anything is possible.

Even Apple computers can be tricked. Don't think they can't. Mac OS X is just an overlay of Linux.

Apple products are overrated, the world can do without it. A lot of tech companies dont put the apple system into consideration when writing a software for their products especially if its proprietary. Four years ago, a sales rep on phone from malta asked us why we were using Apple laptop as its company never gets requests for its software to run on Mac OS. Yet, they say its apple and i cant eat it after i found it to be useless.

Any example of a professional power user laptop you know of?

And also please, apart from the ''apple tax'',is there any reason why macbook pro/air is not a professional power user laptop?

Thank you.

In our office we use the hp zbook 17 it has a 4940mx intel processor 3.1ghz quadcore with 4ghz turbo.
32gb ddr3ram
1tb ssd and 2tb hdd
An 8gb nvidia quadro 5100m graphics card of. Course it cost a fortune. And I still think its slow espically 3dss max rendering. We switch to the z840 and z820 for that the z840 spec

Dual intel xeon E5 2697 v3 14core at 2.6ghz 28 physical core and 56 virtual cores(what you see in task manger as 56 cpu)

256gb ddr4 2133mhz ram

Dual Qaudro K6000 with 12gb video card

Not ur average desktop
Revit and 3ds max runs like a cham even 36 million polygon

Dell precision m6000 series also

The macbook pro does not have ventilation how can it breathe. Also the gtx 750m graphic card is below medicore only comes with 16gb ram get my drift.

If you know anything about x86 processors then you know there is nothing like fake processors. Its too complex to manufacture that's why intel is d only dominating player. Now hp buys in bulk although a core i7 lappy beow 200k will defintley not be clocked as high as a macbook pro offering.

17" is too big imo

Lenovo Thinkpad W541
Dell Precision M4800
HP Zbook 15
Toshiba Tecra W50

Those are all professional laptops with a lot of power.
