Second half substitute Taiwo Awoniyi bagged a hat-trick, with a goal each from Chidera Ezeh and Godwin Saviour.

One of the best things about young footballers is that their development can be quite rapid. Godwin Saviour was a bit time player for the under 17s but he is now a major player for the u23s and stands a great chance of going to new Zealand.Awoniyi has shown massive improvements as well.

Nigeria cheated itself by using over aged players because you will not see this kind of improvement from grown men.

Youth football is also unpredictable because the biggest prospect at 17 may not be the one with the best development.. We rave about Iheanacho now but an Idowu might make the best development.

Their growth will be interesting to monitor.

TheGoodJoe:

No one denies Awoniyi's talent. We are debating who is the best among them. Even those that will be dropped are top talents.

Simon Moses was not a star player of the squad but he has grown into one of the top emerging talents in football. Godwin Saviour is tipped to become the star of the tournament by a flying Eagles coach despite him not being one of the stars of the team.

We critiqued Awoniyi's finishing. Many said if he works on his finishing and improves his turnover rate, he will be one if the World's best strikers.

These lads are all good, we are checking for who is the best of the best. We want the best to lead the line.
I understand you my brother. I've been following the debate and really not convinced why Issac is idolized and prioritized than other Strikers at the camp by some Posters.
Can he gel up swiftly with the Team chemistry? Awoniyi came in the 2nd half yet he bagged hat trick! Can Isaac Success do the same? I'm not doubting his talent, but we should consider teamwork before individual capabilities!

It doesn't matter who starts, It is good to have one of them on the bench to replace if needed... We can't play Awoniyi 90 mins in all games...

Awoniyi is a brilliant striker. I watched him against Congo and he was superb. his greatest asset is that defenders do underate him. Now na to begin beg NEPA for light for Naija vs Brazil. Generator is banned in my area after midnight.

Awoniyi Hat-Trick Fires Flying Eagles Past Hoffenheim's U23s

Taiwo Awoniyi scored a second half hat-trick as the Flying Eagles thrashed Hoffenheim's U23s 5-2 in their first friendly game in preparation for the Under-20 World Youth Championship.

Saviour Godwin got the Eagles off to a flying start but the German level things up after some poor defending from the Nigerians.

Chidera Ezeh restored Nigeria's  lead but the Germans once again restored parity as both teams head into the half time break level at 2-2.

The second half got off to a slow start but the introduction of Nigeria Under-20 top striker Taiwo Awoniyi changed the complexion of the game.

He was introduced with 35 minutes left to play and the gangling forward proved his rating as one of Nigeria hottest teen prospect by firing a hat-trick to secure a 5-2 win for Nigeria.

Despite the heavy scoreline, Coach Manu Garba was unhappy that his boys let in two goals and made errors that he feel might hurt the team at the tournament proper.

"We deserve to win base on our performance but there is still room for improvement going forward we got it right but we made some mistake in defending," he told SL10.ng.

"Those errors might prove costly in the World cup so hopeful we will get it right before our first game but overall am pleased with the performances of the boys."

I'm excited about the future of these youngstars. Never reposed such great a faith in any Nigerian team as i have in this team who really have proven their mettle time and time again without a drop of doubt.
I roundly believe they are perched on the ledge of being the first Nigeria football team to clinch the U-20 world cup. And that much is certain.
For me, Manu Garba is the brightest star in the team. Never mind he is not a player.

#where is ifeanyi Ifeanyi? Wish dude would make the cut. He is such a delight to watch.

Manu needs to work on defending. That is clear.

More info about the match, .

Sokari was awesome, two assists... One for Ezeh, the other for awoniyi. The hoffenhiem coach took a selfie with him.. He was that impressive.

Musa Yahaya was also in his usual element with his skills, he also got an assist.

Ifeanyi mathew got the assist for Awoniyi's first goal.

Musa Muhammed got the assist for Awoniyi 3rd goal.

Bad news for monsur Bashir , he was replaced after just 35 mins, he was jittery and was not playing well... Ndidi replaced him

Good info@tbabs...i guess the inclusion of Ndidi after 35th minute stabilized the team defence, Nice one.

Looks like Godwin Saviour might make the list... Cutting down this list will be hard for Manu...

I think Sokari has displaced Alfa. Saviour might take the role of Ezeh or Success, most likely Success if he does not sort himself out...
Re: Flying Eagles of Nigeria Thread: U-20 World Cup (New Zealand 2015) by Nobody: 6:38pm On May 12, 2015
The starting line up was

Enaholo (GK)..Musa,Mustapha,Monsur,Bello,Ifeanyi,Matthew,Bulbwa,Ezeh,Sokari,Saviour..

Looks like Ezeh played top striker

According to @guysly2much, Manu is very angry because Success is not showing commitment. Looks likely that he might miss it. That might be Saviour's spot

This team is truly destined for greatness! I will urge Siasia to use the Flying Eagles as the core of his Olympic squad, with the addition of a few other over-aged players.

They would do wonders in Brazil, if they qualify. Then, the 2018 WC would be their next stop.
Re: Flying Eagles of Nigeria Thread: U-20 World Cup (New Zealand 2015) by TheGoodJoe(m):
I see people trying to pin point the past great attacker that the young attacker of the Flying Eagles, Taiwo Awoniyi plays like.

Some say he plays like Kanu Nwankwo, Others say Yekini.

When I look at him, I see a young Nicolas Anelka of Arsenal and PSG.

I hope the Gunners snap this brilliant youngster.

Hope there is nothing wrong with nwakali o. We are not hearing anything about him nd alhassan. I hope success responds because apart from him awoniyi and alhassan, there is no other natural 9. Best of luck to the brain of the coaching crew in passing the tough exam of choosing among this tight options.
