I need to correct a crucial error in the reporting of this incident.

The original incident which led to the death of dozens in Ondo - which is probably what happened again here - stressed that it was methanol poisoning, not ethanol poisoning. Science & medical students who studied organic chemistry will understand what I mean.

The alcohol found in alcoholic drinks is ethanol (C₂H₅OH), which you could call 'biological alcohol' because it's the primary product of fermentation in biological processes (e.g. palm wine, wine from grapes) & its that to which living systems, including our bodies, are most adapted to. It's the second most basic molecular unit of alcohol - second only to methanol (CH₂OH), the culprit in the Ondo gin deaths, which is far less prevalent biologically & so is highly toxic.

Methinks what happened was that the people who were concocting the deadly brew just went and acquired bottles of pure absolute 'alcohol' & adulterated their product, to add more 'kick' to their brew, assuming it was ok cos "it sha was alcohol" - never suspecting it was the lethal methanol ( see how costly ignorance is!! )! It's dangerous enough to have added excess ethanol to the mix, not to talk of methanol - or indeed any other of the higher derivatives of the alcohol series! That, in a nutshell, must have been what happened to those poor unfortunate souls.

Pls feel free to corroborate my analysis, or otherwise correct me where I'm wrong.
