Hard choice I had to make this morning embarassed

Unfortunately I went for Alpen.. embarassed I will try the bland oats again tomorrow (Father Lord in Heaven help me amen cheesy)

Dami diet is not a torture,it is a lifelong commitment so you need to make it as comfortable and fun for yourself.

Many go for what they are not comfortable and give up quickly, you can add a lot of healthy stuff to your oat-it does not have to be bland.

You can add blueberries, bananas or honey, still very healthy if not more.

When you think diet, think lifelong palate,health,fun,experiment....so many rule sometimes makes it boring. Don't overhaul your entire diet—make small changes that you will be able to maintain for a very long time.

Edwife don't mind me o I am trying to challenge my palate that's why I decided to try the bland oats.

I am definitely not going down the diet diet route(been there done that was even on Cambridge diet when I found out I was pregnant with my son). It's a total lifestyle thing for me so instead of dieting I am making healthier choices and practising portion control. Also trying to eat more fruit and veg and cutting out unnecessary snacking in between meals. I more or less eat the same food but in a healthier way e.g instead of frying meat fish plantain etc i bake or grill, instead of pouring oil in my my porridge I measure with a spoon swapped white sliced bread to wholemeal pitta bread and stuff like that.

I just wanted to see if I could actually have my porridge bland and like you can see my palate is saying no grin embarassed

Hmmm, someone told me that I am wasting my time, that I should wait until I am done with child birth, alleging that immediately I becomes pregnant that I will return to my previous weight.

I have two kids and I am looking forward to another two by Gods' grace.

I was also told that active involvement in strenuous exercises will prevent me from taking in.

HOW TRUE IS IT LADIES.

Gosh! Some people and their very ignorant and scare mongering advice! angry angry

Jayne, that is soooo not true. There is absolutely nothing wrong with eating clean, exercising, and maintaining a healthy diet inbetween childbirth / having kids. Infact, you need your exercises more than ever now to get you back in shape and to keep fit. The longer you leave it, the more difficult it gets to get the weight down.

Do you know that women are even encouraged to exercise even while pregnant, as it helps during childbirth, as per making it easier? It doesn't have to be anything serious. Taking walks and doing gentle pelvic exercises are the most recommended...assuming there are no underlying issues and the pregnancy is going fine. There are even Yoga classes for pregnant women. Swimming is another good one. I swam so much during my third and fourth pregnancies, hubby even commented that I might turn into a fish at that rate! smiley

So please, ignore the bolded bit of that advice. As per your last comment, the reverse is the case. If a woman gets too big (i.e: morbidly obese), it hinders her chances to take in. Something to do with the ovaries getting covered with cysts or so. I'm no expert on that but I do know that the heavier one gets, the less likely it could be for her to take in. Nothing beats exercising and keeping fit.

Don't let anyone discourage you, girl.

Lol,great choices.i also don't diet but keep my food healthy.I am comfortable the way I look only that I want to tone up and build some muscles which is quite a challenge because you need to eat right and much.

A lot of proteins....and healthy fat is needed to be able to achieve it.

Ok oo I hope so ..you know when you just shove food down your throat lipsrsealed so you don't taste it that's what I did this morning.I washed it down with water cheesy But I guess I can if I put my mind to it.

It takes keeping at it and your body or palate just gets used to the good stuff. I find it difficult it very difficult eating deep fried food these days.I take out kitchen towel and start squeezing the oil or my stomach just starts feeling queasy at the look of it.Me that I love puff puff I could only eat one last Sunday when someone brought it to church..all the oil stains in foil pan just put me off.I was so shocked at myself.

God bless whoever invented the oil spray even that sef I have mastered how to use sparingly or not at all.

grin grin grin

Not good. You need to chew your food and give your stomach less work to do, girl. cheesy

Like Edwife mentioned, choosing to eat healthily shouldn't feel like such a chore. More importantly, I think you need to decide what your short term and long term goals are. If weight loss is one of them, dieting alone won't cut it. You'll need to throw in a couple of exercises to achieve that. If on the other hand you're aren't looking at weight loss but aiming to maintain your weight, then you can make up your diet as you go along, to suit your needs.

For me, weight loss is my number one priority. Once I've achieved my desired goal weight, then, I'd be looking to maintain that weight and that's when I might switch my exercises to focus mostly strength building ones, rather than fat burning and endurance exercises. So, since I'm keen to keep on shedding those lbs, I make up diets and do exercises that would help me achieve that. As per diets, I've chosen to totally eliminate all:

~ Fats/oily foods (I do feel a little bit guilty about using 2 tablespoons of palm oil for my African stir fry & Bole...)
~ All processed sugars / foods and drinks that contain those - hence my going very natural with fresh fruits and water. No sweets. No cakes. No fizzy drinks. No white/brown/sweetner or sugars.
~ Reduced sodium content / salts. Thus absolutely no ready-made meal. No crisps. No fast foods.

That explains why I've opted for the plain porridge without milk or sugars. I still get my complex carb slowly releasing energy throughout the day from the porridge. My sugars from a wide assortment of fruits. And of course, lots and lots of green vegs. I love cucumbers, lettuce, broccli, brussel sprouts, green peas, green beans/lentils, ugwu (pumpkin leaves), and cress. On the other hand, I absolutely detest leeks and spring onions. So you see, it's all about experimenting with foods that would help you achieve your desired goals. smiley smiley

Very, very, good!

Have a high five girl!!

You say your present weight is 88kg. Now with these exercises you've done (especially the skipping), be prepared to see big changes. You're going to notice a big drop in weight for the first couple of weeks. However, it will slow down and appear that the harder you work at it, the less you seem to lose. Don't get discouraged at that stage. What it simply means is that your body's flatlining and getting used to the exercise routine. You'll also be building muscle mass at this stage.

So what you'll need to do at that stage (a training tip I learnt), is that say after six days of doing the same exercises in a row, change the routine and surprise your body. You could throw in cycling. Running. Or even a high intensive dance workout.

However, do remember to keep on drinking lots of water. Cut down (or better still, eliminate) the fry-fry foods and go for boiled, grilled, or roast alternatives. Say no to sugary foods and reduce your salt intake. But most importantly, stay focused. If at any stage you start to feel slightly demotivated, just give us a shout on here and we'll always be happy to help.

You're not alone on this journey girl. smiley

I'm waiting for my akara to digest before leaving. Sorry about you knees. I also felt pains in my knee (the very place i twisted skiing) while jogging 2 days ago. Not too much but it's there. I go buy a band later for it.

Try lifting some weights to reduce the exercise on your legs and give more to your arms and other body parts

Chillisauce, I made that sweet potatoe porridge dish. Absolutely fantastic!

Didn't use yam or cocoyam, just the sweet potatoes. I also added some pepper and onions to the tomatoes and crayfish. Since I only used sweet potatoes, there was no need to add water to the pot. Just the blended tomato mixture and added to the potatoes in the pot. I also added the frozen prawns directly to the pot, along with the chopped carrots. Used three.

Men! Soooooooo nice! I will upload pics of this tomorrow when I defrost some of that porridge.
