We’re Open To Merger, Says PDP by ijustdey(op): 5:17am On May 18, 2015
The Peoples Democratic Party has said that it is not contemplating a change of identity, noting that the vision of its founding fathers remains timeless.

The party also said it was open to merging with other political parties and associations that shared its ideals.

The party insisted that it was still a national political party with the strength and spread to regain pre-eminence, despite losing control of the Federal Government and some states in the last general elections.

A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, in Abuja on Sunday, said that “having been the guardian of Nigerian democracy for 16 years during which it nurtured and blossomed democratic governance as well as etched its name in the pantheon of good governance, the PDP will not in the circumstance of ephemeral loss of power change its identity or its time-honoured characteristic values.”

The party said though it was committed to its present structures, it would not close its doors to other political parties wishing to be assimilated into its fold as the best vehicle for the fulfillment of political aspirations of all Nigerians regardless of tribe and religion.

It said, “We have a name, tradition and values. Sixteen fruitful years as the guardian of Nigerian democracy cannot be nullified by the reason of a temporary setback. We shall rise beyond all and regain our rhythm.

“Our colour remains green, white and red and power still belongs to the people. And to assert that we are proud of the successes of our successive leaders in taking Nigeria to its present height is an understatement, which the passage of the next four years under the All Progressives Congress will certainly prove.”

The party added that the fact that it was going into opposition would not mitigate its ability as the flagship of democracy, maintaining that it would soar higher in providing credible alternative as a constructive opposition, “far removed from the wrathful destruction that the APC lived thus far.”

Not only that, they have to accept the real reason we dumped them - GROSS CORRUPTION

Majority of us who canvassed and voted for the APC, did it out of disappointment due to the untold hardship that PDP's corruption had brought upon hardworking Nigerian families.

But right now they are not accepting it, so it will make it difficult still, for any sane Nigerian to listen to them even after changing their name because its still the same old wine in a new bottle

PDP goats loss of access to national yam barn has done a serious number on their senses.

APC caused PDP's "wrathful destruction" right ? What role then did Nigerians that they "apologised" to playhuh?

KOWA,ACCORD & SDP, there is hope for una, don't allow PDP to "tiff" una identity to use launder dem image.

Re: We’re Open To Merger, Says PDP by PassingShot(m):
PDP is not yet serious to be a formidable opposition party.

Without a name change and readiness to merge and treat other merging parties as equal partners, no hope for PDP.

The unnecessary pride and arrogance that led to its demise is still in their DNA and not until they get rid of it, the party cannot bounce back.

“having been the guardian of Nigerian democracy for 16 years during which it nurtured and blossomed democratic governance as well as etched its name in the pantheon of good governance, the PDP will not in the circumstance of ephemeral loss of power change its identity or its time-honoured characteristic values.”

Claiming credit for nurturing and blossoming democracy in Nigeria when the fact is that all parties, civil societies and even common Nigerians without any political affiliation indeed should take credit for the democracy we enjoy today; is myopic and too self-serving in my opinion. The last time I checked, no leader of PDP was a member of any civil society when Abacha was fought by NADECO and others.

A rotten egg will always remain a rotten egg even if you change the plate that contains it. There would be no more hiding place for the corrupt, for commonsense revolution shall surely take place in this country. It is either the ordinary citizens stone these wicked people (APC or PDP) or the law lands them in Kirikiri. Can't wait for May 29th!

These people have not seen anything... If only they knew that it was rigging that kept them being charge... PDP will be buried at the rate these guys are arrogantly going. They should tell themselves the truth and stop trying to crave sympathy.
Re: We’re Open To Merger, Says PDP by Nobody: 6:10am On May 18, 2015
A merger might be good for the Opposition. After all, that is how the APC itself formed , and I guess that is the next aim of the PDP....mergers and alliances.

The acronym PDP is already "casted" as Nigerians would say in colloquial terms.

Whatever it is, I don't see PDP rising from this defeat as PDP. A merger and a change of name is the only hope they have of reincarnation.

Now that the original party members that made up the so 'dreadful' PDP are now the leaders in Apc ( Obasanjo, Atiku, Amaechi, Masari, Tanbuwal, Syllva, Tinubu etc) it's time to rebuild the new PDP. No need to change any name, just go into mergers with a clear cut vision to really rescue Nigeria and be the real change from the cabals that have held us down and who unfortunately, will continue in power under the guise of change mantra and the Apc. God please save us.

APGA, LP, HOPE, KOWA will be merging but there will be a need for a change of name... Nigerians have so much hatred for the acronym PDP already.

I don't know why the leaders of PDPi.g do not want to accept reality. PDP.ig is dead, the name has been wiped off it can only exist in history that it ruled nigeria for 16yrs.

PD.Pig is no more.

Merging with other political parties or group won't solve your problem. undecided

You need to get rid of the bad eggs and encourage your left over office holders to be of good behavior in their position. that way your party's image can be redeemed and they will be the new foundation and you can also bring in a few good men with ideals wink

Even Kowa will reject a merger with PDP. I can't believe the same PDP that boasted of ruling for 60 years is begging for merger. Some South South saTANoids said the loss of PDP is a blessing in guise, is this the blessing - merger?
