Robert Kiyosaki said "everything you need is on the other side of fear". The summary of all is fear! Nobody should talk of capital in this information age where with only N3,000 I subscribe to promote a nigerian platform that pays in naira to my nigerian bank account every 2 weeks up till last friday. No product to sell. No website needed. Just share the information as I'm doing now. |

Missonas:Sis, i'm not saying you can't be creative with small capital but i find it funny when some dudes will just sit somewhere & type Rubbish in name of encouraging graduates.besides what I've achieved thus far was not a help from anyone.but by the Grace of God & the passion i have for what i'm doing. Government cannot blame the graduates for their own ineptitude & bad management of the resources. They can't pass the buck to Nigerian graduates due to their recklessness in managing the economy. Nigeria graduates are excelling in diferent field in other countries where they are opportune to work. Do you know that Nigeria is one of the most toughest & difficult country to startup a business due some indices which i can't state now. |

Op, owning a business in nigeria is not about the paperwork you learnt in BUS 309 or whatever entrepeneurship courses you took in school. Nigeria is not the UK, US or foreign countries where there are incentives and infrastructures and facilities on ground. You need to be able to think outta the box at all times. We wey we be entrepeneurs know wetin eye dey see. The gloomy picture of businesses collapsing barely into gestation business is alarming but shouldnt be discouraging. Piece of advice, dont expect the money to roll in overnight, see it as a nurturing process to push for bigger opportunities in a large market like nigeria. In this terrrain, u are ur master so also ur own govt. Seek advices(not necessary take advice from everyone)from entrepeneurs who have swam through the murky waters of owning a business in nigeria, be creative and see your customers as an asset u dont toy with. No complacensy towards customers as some would want to take undue advantage. Financial prudency especially at growing stage is critical. |

I hope you are not expecting your ideas to encourage anyone here because I read through the article and the only business idea I see in the whole wrote up is 'pure water, ice block and gala' for a graduate. Isn't that ridiculously embarrassing both for the writer of the article and for a learned graduate (I suppose you are a graduate) to be short of ideas for his/her article? Imagine a fresh graduate hustling pure water and gala on the streets, what then will high school leavers, school dropouts and non educated ones will sell? That's one. And if graduates start hustling gala n pure water as 'start up biz' what then is the future of Nigeria? #PovertyOfIdeas |

KEVIND:Trust me i knw hw it feels cos i've been there. The truth is many graduates don't have all the cards in their hands hence the difficulty in equipping themselves. Granted the govt has failed us bt we cannot continue to blame em so we do what we can to survive. Nigerians are born hustlers this piece can be of help to some people and not all the problem with it is the generalising. Above all God crowns our efforts... |

People just want a cheap alibi, someone to heap the blame of their own ineptitude on. Continue to blame the FG while people with foresight have taken the bull by the horns and prospering in the larger world. Graduates, please be creative. Few months ago, I was also thinking I wasn't business oriented and I couldn't survive but here I am doing good. The link below is my story. https://www.nairaland.com/2316549/self-employment-realest-deal Talking of capital, there are businesses people will readily give you "credit", where you take goods, sell to your customers, remove your own profit and pay back the owner. I met a brother very much older than me who is also in my line of business who started with nothing. This is what he told me he did. First, he went to meet people that sells beer in wholesales and compare their prices, then he picked out the wholesaler with the best price and struck a deal with him. I will find customers to buy from me and you will sell on credit, once I make delivery and I get paid, then I pay you. He then afterwards went to find customers, went to bars, restaurants, hotels and anywhere beer is been sold and told them he could supply them, all they need do is give him the number of various brands of beer they want and he will deliver to them. This brother started with nothing, zero naira but today he's a big distributor. He is successful. There is a market for everything, there is something out there certain people want and they are ready to pay big for it. Think, do your research, find the market and their need(s) and supply them. Stop waiting for government. Pardon my errors. |

ednut1:while you might be right, I believe that some might be more inclined than others, just like some students might be more brighter than others, but as you and I both know, not all first class graduates were first class brains... maybe it comes down to the individual's motivation. so if you are like me that believes that success in anything is deliberate, maybe it's the same with business... |
| Re: Excuses Graduates Give For Not Starting Their Own Business by sacostyles(m): 2:30pm On May 18, 2015 |
I don't have to be business inclined to succeed in business. Look at bill gates or mark Zuckerberg for example. I just know that I shouldn't have any stories for my unborn generation when there is no food on the table. just like success in school comes down to learning and applying principles, perhaps a similar mindset is required for business, except I wanna remain broke all my life #BloodOfJesus and if you didn't get it right in school it doesn't mean you will get a "let my people go" result at business. That is also a common misconception. I'lI be back with more of these at a later date... |

You are very hard working right... 1 question... are the results showing? I hear that one of the worst things in life is to be hard working at the wrong things. 1 more question... have you heard of the concept of smart work or leveraging? Perhaps if you leveraged off financially prudent person you could achieve your desired result and end up even helping the prudent person... E.g... my mum is very free handed person. She bought a keke and put it on hire-purchase. She gave it to one of her nephews to manage it for her for a commission at very little cost to her. He's a prudent go getter in his final year at futo. After 6 months he now owns and operates a small scale fish farm from the little money he made managing this keke for my mum. And he is still in school... and my mum uses that little money she gets from her keke biz to buy new shoes and hand bags for her people. I'm a network marketer and I run a medium scale business and train others to start and run theirs also. Dyt: |
