kastonkastrol:They should pack to Cameroon? You want these people to leave their ancestral land in which they have lived in for thousands of years to pack to Cameroon? Are you sane? So your "Lord Lugard invention" called Nigeria is the reason why the people should give up the lands they have lived on even before Lord Lugards ancestors were born? The sovereign will of the people superceeds the sovereign will of any government and if the people do not want to be part of a political establishment, they are well within their rights to breakaway. You will have to go to BRITAIN to find Lugard so he can get you more lands for you to pack to. Nonsense! |

Lower Niger, lolz I am asking the proponents of this misconception to explain in clear terms where and when the very diverse(and clearly disconnected) tribes of the regiin decided to join this misguided union or is the membership forced?? From Edo state to Crossrivers, thru Delta,Bayelsa ans Rivers, you encounter people who have nothing in common, not even a collective destiny..Then factor in the cunning sets of humans called Igbos.. If this idea isnt somones comic pasttime, then this is a whole new level of silliness. |

noblezone:Op Biafra existed from 1967-1970 and as it stands it is an unrecognized state so I don't get your comment that Nigeria has paid some money to the Biafran state. Who receives the money on behalf of Biafra? I'm not conversant with how the proceedings at the UN work but I think any agenda in this direction of yours must get an approval from Abuja. |

We the Indigenous People Of Biafra, will wholly support any group that will take the struggle for self-determination and independence further, either true the use of referendum, violence or round table discuss. What we won't support however is the changing of the name Biafra to something else, Biafra has been before Nigeria, Biafra has been since more than 2000 years ago, and Biafra will continue to exist after this damnable contraption created by slave masters is no more. Biafra is holy, it doesn't die and it is name of the people of God. Whatever it will take to condemn this zoo is ok by all Biafrans. Get on with it men, freedom beckons at last |

sebali:Lol. What most people don't realize is that expansive Space/Land is more important to the Igbos than SS oyel . Not only is the SE landlocked, they are also running short of space -- the population pressure is majorly responsible for their penchant for spreading out beyond their borders -- that's why they clash with others over land. The SE simply wasn't blessed with good land. SS on the other hand has more than enough Land mass to accommodate the expansionist/hegemonic ambitions of the igbos. Their proposed Biafra must of necessity be run under a Dictatorship style of governance, to forestall further balkanization/breakup (which is bound to happen considering the multi-ethnic nature of the state). Forget the oi |

noblezone:Which votes? Are you going to put a gun to our heads and force us to vote. Please leave the old Mid-West or Bendel areas out of your land and oil grab scheme. You can take the Igbo speaking areas along with you and if Jonathans people love you people so much, they can go with you. We have never asked for succession from Nigeria. It is very annoying when an Igbo man feels he can arrogantly impose his nuisances and caprices on the Niger Delta. |

sebali:Meaning of "Biafra" and location[edit] Little is known about the literal meaning of the word Biafra. The word Biafra most likely derives from the subgroup Biafar or Biafada[36] of the Tenda ethnic group who reside primarily in Guinea-Bissau.[37] Manuel Álvares (1526–1583), a Portuguese Jesuit educator, in his work Ethiopia Minor and a geographical account of the Province of Sierra Leone,[38] writes about the "Biafar heathen" in chapter 13 of the same book.[39] The word Biafar thus appears to have been a common word in the Portuguese language back in the 16th century. Historical maps[edit] Early modern maps of Africa from the 15th–19th centuries, drawn by European cartographers from accounts written by explorers and travellers, reveal some information about Biafra: The original word used by the European travellers was not Biafra but Biafara,[40][41] Biafar[42] and sometimes also Biafares.[43] The exact original region of Biafra is not restricted to Eastern Nigeria alone. According to the maps, the European travellers used the word Biafara to describe the entire region east of River Niger going down to the Mount Cameroon region, thus including Cameroon and a large area around Gabon. The word Biafara also appears on maps from the 18th century in the area around Gambia.[44] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biafra Last note, I am not saying Biafra is an Igbo name, besides, name "Biafra" was given to Ojukwu by an Ijaw man, IPOB is not an Igbo only movement, get it right. Have u been to IPOB meeting anywhere in Nigeria? Do u know all clans in Biafra are fairly represented in IPOB, who do u think make up IPOB in over 90 countries of this world, the IPOB in Portharcourt, Asaba, Uyo and Calabar are all Igbo speaking Biafrans right? Igbo is a language in Biafra, just like we have Efik, Ibibio, and all other languages in Ijaw and Izon region. The movement for re-secession and freedom is one embraced by all Biafrans despite which clan they are from, u can see that with the leaders of Lower Nigeria Congress and the Directorate of State board in IPOB. If when time comes and any clan says they don't want to be in, they can go, no one is forcing anyone, but u can't make others who want to be not to be. Freedom at last! |
