Whynotthetruth:
NOI isn't perfect but exhibited some great ingenuity while working with some treacherous beings like SLS; whose term as CBN governor would go down in history as the most rancorous worldwide... I am yet to see another CBN governor worldwide in the news always like him both for economic and none economic reasons...

Our IPPIS and some other initiatives are to her credit...After her term comes other opportunities for her...For I am sure, she would continue being an international player while her detractors who are mainly local champions continue with throwing muds locally...

Which "local champions" do you refer to? Would that include Soludo -- one of her biggest critics? cheesy

This useless goat used public funds to sponsor Boko Haram, the APC and constituted himself as an executive donating hundreds of billions to the north towards securing his much wanted emirship.

But by far the worst he did was to invest huge chunk of our money in a crude medieval banking system.

So the coordinating minister for the economy and finance minister bears no responsibility for the economy?

LOL

The lengths to which you traitors and sycophants would go to defend rubbish is just astounding.

She had very real power to do something about the reckless depletion of the excess crude account, to reduce reckless borrowing and to propose tough measures to reduce expenditure...including vocally joining a fight against corruption and wastage. And yet what did she do?

She was the head minister in the FEC meeting last year that put aside 9bn naira for the 'clean cook stoves' scam, for example. What did she do but keep quiet?

Posterity will judge you turncoats for your sycophantic worship of these fiends.

Ngozi may go down in history as the most famous Minister of finance Nigeria has ever had. I doubt if previous ministers of finance were scrutinized and castigated as much she was.

But let me ask please – What crimes did Ngozi commit that she is so much vilified and abused by Nigerians? Why do Nigerians blame all their economic problems on Ngozi? Is it because she was conferred with the ceremonial title of “coordinating minister of the economy”?

I have found out that many people who accuse Ngozi of destroying the Nigerian economy are blatantly ignorant of how the Nigerian economy is setup and the duties of the minister of finance.

For starters, there are two ways of controlling an economy – Fiscal Policy and Monetary Policy.
Fiscal policy is the use of government revenues and expenditure to stimulate economic growth while monetary policy is basically the use of money supply (e.g. interest rates) to stimulate economic productivity.
Fiscal policy in Nigeria is maintained and managed by the Ministry of Finance while monetary policy is managed by the central bank of Nigeria.
I find it highly hypocritical that nobody ever accuses the CBN of not doing enough to stimulate economic growth and employment. Incidentally, majority of Nigerians are ignorant of the duties and functions of the CBN.
It is the duty of the Central bank to control and manage
- interest rates;
- inflation;
- foreign exchange reserves;
- the national credit system;
- exchange rates
In Nigeria however, we often accuse Ngozi of depleting our foreign reserves, we accuse her of the high exchange rates; we accuse her of unemployment; we accuse her of inflation; we accuse her of everything wrong with the economy. These aren't her duties.

Ngozi does not control exchange rates, the CBN does
Ngozi does not manage or control our foreign reserves, the CBN does
Ngozi does not control inflation, the CBN does
Ngozi’s job is to manage the revenues and expenditures of the federal government; how your state governors spend their allocation and revenues is not her concern.

She has carried out her duties to the best of her ability and I can’t think of any previous minister of finance that did a better job than Okonjo Iweala.

Nigerians should learn to apportion blames to whom they are due

Blame the CBN for inflation
Blame the CBN for high rates interest
Blame the CBN for not managing the foreign reserves properly
Don’t blame Okonjo Iweala

Thank you.

Thank you for the acknowledgement that Mrs Okonjo controls the revenue and expenditure of the FGN.

In your own honest assessment, will can you state categorically how much she saved for the FGN over a period of 5 years when crude oil prices was at its highest ever?

How has madame Okonjo help diversify the economy from being too reliant and crude oil sales?

As the coordinating minister of the economy, she was given more powers than ordinary finance minister, how has she used that to increase Nigeria's GDP and affect the life of ordinary Nigerians on the street?

How has her policies brought about jobs for the youths and growth of our industries?

Please we have to be very sincere Madame Okonjo, betrayed our Trust and Failed the Nigerian nation during this last 5 years

This buttresses our train of thought that Ngozi Okonjo Iweala is a fantastic technocrat and a prophetess...Who would have thought the oil would crash and we might need our extra liquidity revenue savings to drive the economy by now? Even without the convenience of a healthy national revenue balance -due to the activities of Governors and Nigerian politicians-Ngozi Okonji Iweala still manages to keep the country from insolvency and you will have to commend Yale University for identifying with her....

The economy can't survive if ministries and government agencies are wasteful

I commend her for her observation on the NIPC fraudulent activities that cost the economy $20 billion dollar loss due to import waivers initiated by the organization, that act was commendable, it showed she was keeping a watch, but yet, the government is a whole body and when it fails, the key players share the blame

I am not absolving the CBN at all in all these, but to an extent, they were doing some commendable job with banking regulation being one of their core duties

Your comment on the economy is untrue. The public sector comprises only a little part of the economy. Government agencies in Nigeria have always been wasteful but this never affected the economy negatively. The economy will survive whether government agencies are wasteful or not.
The key mandate of the Central Bank is to keep inflation low (below 5 percent).
Our economy depends on the naira and it is the duty of the Central Bank to ensure that the naira stays valuable, elastic and productive.
Our economy will die if interest rates continue to be over 18 percent and inflation over 10 percent.

The objectives of the CBN are as follows:

1. ensure monetary and price stability;
2. issue legal tender currency in Nigeria;
3. maintain external reserves to safeguard the international value of the legal tender currency;
4. promote a sound financial system in Nigeria; and
5. act as Banker and provide economic and financial advice to the Federal Government.

Okonjo Iweala is a fraud. Pure and simple.

How?
She made her mistakes by not leaving the government when she sees all that was going on.
Also, for the fact that she supervise the biggest ever waiver in the history of Nigeria made her a bad accomplice

By and large, she's not the head of government. That onus fell on Gej; he takes the final decsion

You may argue that the economic blue-prints emanated from her coordination, yet the input of other officers should have been source by the President whom Nigeria gave the mandate to better their lots, otherwise

Again, she received all the accolades during Obj tenure why then she should be absolved of the current impasse

The meaning of economic improvement, rank per se, her coordination, would have been to grow an economy that create job. She failed
Therefore, it appears that her economic interpretations are more administrative

I have noticed the OP have some cognate experience in financial and monetary policies in Nigeria. All I want to know is if he knows better than Chukwuma Soludo and Bismark Rewane. Also I would want him to tell us what the title coordinating minister of the ECONOMY means with respect to previous ones that were just ministers of finance.
