For those asking why we were against subsidy in 2011. We were against it because; 1. We can't fathom how subsidy payments that never exceeded N200-N300b naira for the past years would suddenly leap to N1.3t (roughly 400-500% increase) within the first year thereabout of President GEJ -- we were shocked. #fraud. 2. We also could not fathom how any half-sane man could be drilling oil in his backyard, with 4 refineries in his backyard (with land and space to build more, and 11 licences issued already to build more), but still imports finished petroleum products. (OBJ and GEJ=culprits). 3. To the common Nigerian man, the only 'direct' benefit he gets from the government is, the so called 'subsidized fuel', which we later discovered to be a farce after all . . . so when you are going to take those extra litres/miles from him, or make him pay extra to get them, he has no choice than to revolt/demonstrate/remonstrate. 4. Unless you are among the 1% of the 1%, every other person on the street knows fuel scarcity goes along with insane inflation. 5. You ask him to make sacrifices while the president feeds on N3m/day and has 10 aircrafts in his fleet, his senators get paid more than their counterparts in the richest country on earth. Yet, they find it hard to pay same minimum wage paid in the poorest countries on earth! How can we trust people of that ilk? 6. ATEOTD, subsidy was partially removed with promises of palliatives, and prosecution of the defrauders aka 'cabals', what did we get?Nothing, bar further fraud and corruption; from bribery scandals up to the speaker of the house (Cabal Otedola, well played) to mismanagement of the said saved funds from subsidy payments. How can you trust such people?!! Same people from the NNPC to the Petroleum ministry, to the CBN, to the Finance ministry, Budgets, both houses, up to the presidency that have no reliable database of how much oil is being drilled/sold per day, nor how much NNPC refines locally, nor how much we do consume/day. |

Kingspin:Thank u bro. Fools forever they are. They think they are playing politics, really showing their stupidity and ignorance. Track back to 2012, they took to the streets to show their ignorance out of incitement by pple who have them under control. Now, it seems they'v used Hypo on their eyes that they now demand its removal. This has only made Yorubas same with Hausas in the league of those drawing us back in this Zoo. |

THEY HAD BETTER LEFT THE SUBSIDY ALONE OOO. IMAGINE THIS HYPOCRITES, GEJ WANTED TO STOP THE ROT AND ALL THESE BUFFOONS RIOTED NOW THEY WANT IT OUT? UNA DEY CRAZE? SUBSIDY MUST STILL REMAIN... PERIOD |
| Re: Remove Fuel Subsidy – Saraki Tells Buhari by PassingShot(m): 2:54pm On May 26, 2015 |
Wildrage:Yes I did. And you must surely remember how we wished he was not overthrown after about three years of IBB's governance. If Buhari was actually a selfish tyrant, we wouldn't have wished him to return and wouldn't have won the last election. Don't be a bigot yourself. remove the log in your eyes before attempting to remove another's piece. |

no please lets get these straight. your phone is not a necessity, having fuel to travel is. these are two seperate things. why isnt diesel sold for N20 today? the same cabals. diesel sell from btw N155 - N170. bearing in mind diesel use to sell for much less than petrol. GEJ had no control over these CABALs i mean why would they let anyone else import fuel? the own the tank farms and the filling stations remember. unless we wanna go n be fueling our cars directly from the ships at sea? we 100% support Buhari removal of subsidy cos he has control. lexy2014: |

Datanet:. You talk as if you don't know how weak Nigeria's institutions are. Has GEJ been president since 1960? If you wait for the Nigerian system that is so corrupt at all levels to control and monitor the vast subsidy fraud, you will wait for a long time. Gej's approach was "prevent the fraud at source". Subsidy removal even for 3 years would have given the window to work out adequate means of control, so that when re-introduced, it would be impossible to defraud. The average Ghanian is not richer than a Nigerian. Ghana removed subsidy and they are alive. For Nigeria to move forward, we must forget the notion that we're a rich country and stop living above our means. If Nigeria produces 2.5 million barrels a day, daily revenue is 2,500,000 x $50 = $125,000,000. 125,000000/170, 000, 000 = $0.735 per day per Nigerian. That is assuming the govt collects all the money. BUT that's not the case. After oil companies collect their cut, a Nigerian might have around $0.40 per day. Even if we double production and prices double, a Nigerian's share will still not exceed $1.50 per day. So we're a poor country EXCEPT for a huge human capital that has been poorly harnessed. We cannot afford elaborate subsidy. We must reduce luxury, imports, owambe, no bicameral parliament, no presidential fleet. Sell off Aso Rock and get a smaller State house. AND PRODUCE MORE. Agric, IT, Services, tourism and stop waiting for oil money. |

MosquitoREBIRTH:Nothing like wrong timing they õnly announce it and the cabals went gaga through hikes in fuel price just as they are doing today. Ordinary the price as of then should have gone up gradually. To tell u that something is behind it they hike the price the same day that Federal make that announcement. Dont forget the 2015 budget there is no fuel subsidy money. It been removed before now. I think why they waited this long were to force federal to pay another oil subsidy money which the minister of Finance say to them that it not clear to her which she refused to pay them. Then here we are today. The truth shall set this country free no mata how bitter. |

onatisi:Bro you are wrong, It was the government that built the refineries in the first place, there is nothing stoping the government from fixing the refineries even GEJ promised to do that during the partial fuel subsidy removal, the point is removal of subsidy[doubt even if it exist] won't stop the oil marketers from holding us to ransome. |
| Re: Remove Fuel Subsidy – Saraki Tells Buhari by Ttalk: 3:06pm On May 26, 2015 |
onatisi:Kindly tell us why govt cant repair that refinery? Are you saying all countries that built refinery at the time we build these refineries have abandoned them because it has become obsolete to maintain? Comon, with the capacity of those refinery, the parts can be fabricated with economic value. Do not be hypnotized by what corrupt government has been feeding the gullible Nigerians |

| Re: Remove Fuel Subsidy – Saraki Tells Buhari by DonDiego(m): 3:12pm On May 26, 2015 |
Your argument is pretty funny. Because you didnt trust GEJ and his ability to manage the subsidy savings, you decided that he should pour the money into the dubious pockets of petrol marketers who made all kinds of fictitious claims while still smuggling much of the products across our borders as black marketers. Have you heard of the saying: Cutting your nose to spite your face? The reason you are complaining of fuel shortages today is because you insisted that the FG must continue to pay dubious oil marketers for services not rendered and when the money to pay them ran out, as it was bound to, they turned round to grab everybody -government, citizens, corporate bodies - by the balls until their addiction to free money was satisfied. E never end o. Expect more unless the useless subsidy is removed in its entirety. lolababe331e: |

I can't believe this write-up doesn't have 400 likes. FYI, GEJ spent 2.6 Trillion Naira on the subsidy not 1.7 or 1.4. Datanet: |

blym4real:yes ,because I have already addressed it by saying they will sell the refineries ,it is already in the plan with buyers on ground ,just wait till they shove it down the throats of nigerians . They don't need a reason to do once ,since the worst ppl will say is sai buhari once it is done . Just wait and see. But I support the sales of those refineries to private companies once oil subsidy is removed . |

PassingShot:Wonder how u were able to see the log in my eyes lolz , not definitely from my post. Now to your assertions , three years into IBB's regime , he was still a darling to the public, charming us all with his toothy smile and lofty but mismanaged programs like DFFRI, MAMSER, FRSC, community banks etc, only very few principled and discerning men like the late Gani were able to see through his charades. As at that time most Nigerians had consigned GMB to the rubbish bin of history, an aberration we all wished would never happen again in Nigeria Why I called him a tyrant and a bigot? We need not repeat his tyrannical misadventure in power, read Soyinka's 2007 article to re jig your memory. How do you describe a man who sat comfortably in his position as PTF chairman, enjoying every perks of office, unperturbed by the murderous inclination of the govt he served? Yar adua was jailed and killed, Obasanjo jailed , Ken Saro Wiwa killed , Omojowa was bombed and framed as a NADECO agent, Balgauda Kaltho, a journalist wad bombed, Alex Ibru, Pa Abraham Adesanya were shot, Kudirat killed, weekly bombs on Lagos streets, activist jailed or driven into exile, and this 'honourable' man was blinded to all these atrocities, serving the perpetrators of these heinous crimes. In the last 30yrs he's been out of power, tell me one honorable cause he's lend his voice to apart from propagation of Sharia all over the country? Remind if this man has ever condemned any religious riots and wanton destruction of lives and properties in the north in the last 30yrs. All said, inspite of my misgivings and for the sake of our dear country I wish him well and really hope he succeeds in steering the ship of our nation towards prosperity, peace and harmony |
