in fact the whole of africa has generated only one field marshal since inception(nigeria as a nation has never had someone that rose to the rank of a field marshal).

After Getting into an Argument about what rank a NDA short service student graduates with, I saw browsed this piece online and decided it could help people who might need it.

So here it is... the Nigerian Military Hierarchy.

FIELD MARSHALL – The highest rank in the
Nigerian military hierarchy is Field Marshal. But
this term has never been used practically in
Nigeria, means no Nigerian has ever attained this
rank ever.

GENERAL – The highest rank practically attained
in the Nigerian military hierarchy is General. Full
General is basically a four star rank with NATO
ranking OF – 9.

LIEUTENANT GENERAL – Lieutenant General Rank is a high commissioned officer rank sub ordinate to General rank with a NATO ranking OF – 8, a three star rank in Nigerian military hierarchy.
Major General – A medium commissioned
officer rank with a NATO ranking OF – 7 and a
rank higher to Brigadier. This is a two star rank in
Nigerian military hierarchy.

BRIGADIER – With a NATO ranking OF – 6, this is
one star rank in the Nigerian military hierarchy.
Colonel – Rank lower to Brigadier is Colonel,
referred as Colonel of regiments. A lower level
commissioned officer rank and highest field
officer rank with ranking OF – 5.

LIEUTENANT COLONEL – Deputy to Colonel is
Lieutenant Colonel, a middle level field officer
rank with ranking OF – 4.

MAJOR – The lower level in the field officer
category is Major, a rank higher to Captain and
lower to Lieutenant Colonel with ranking OF – 3.

CAPTAIN – The next rank in the hierarchy is
Captain, the highest rank in the tactical
organization of troops with ranking OF – 2.

FIRST LIEUTENANT – First Lieutenant acts as a
deputy to the Captain. Term Lieutenant refers to
‘substitute’ to immediate superior rank with
ranking OF – 1.

SECOND LIEUTENANT – Second deputy to
Captain is Second Lieutenant, sub ordinate to
First Lieutenant with ranking OF – 1.

MASTER WARRANT OFFICER – Next rank in the
Nigerian military hierarchy is Master Warrant
Officer, an expertise leader who maintains,
operates, manages as well as administers the
military’s equipments.

WARRANT OFFICER – Warrant Officer handles all
the tasks of a Master Warrant Officer in his
absence and acts as an assistant to the same.

STAFF SERGEANT – Sub ordinate to Warrant
Officer, Staff Sergeant is a senior non
commissioned military officer.

SERGEANT – A junior non commissioned military
officer sub ordinate to Staff Sergeant in the
Nigerian military hierarchy.

CORPORAL – A corporal is an officer who is in
charge of a body of certain troop.

LANCE CORPORAL – Lance Corporal means
officer of lowest rank.

RECRUIT / TRAINEE – The cadets who have just
joined Nigerian military are at the lowest level of
the Nigerian military hierarchy.

NDA SS graduates comes out with First or Second Lieutenant depending on your grade.

Nice try but your research has some errors
1. The Ranks you wrote about are Nigerian Army ranks and not Nigerian Military. The term "Nigerian Military" includes the 3 services which are the Army, Navy and the Airforce
2. There is no rank as First Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army, there is 2nd Lieutenant and the next senior rank to it is Lieutenant
3. A SS officer from NDA will be commissioned into the Rank of 2nd Lieutenant.
On a Final note I have noticed some threads on admission into NDA with the scammers behind the threads placing their phone numbers, please if anybody come across those threads kindly report it immediately. I have once fallen a victim and later realized that nobody can help you into NDA by collecting money from you. Don't fall victim like me oooo. God Bless the Nigerian Military, I pray 2 be a member someday.

this is one of the reasons nigeria has never produced a field marshal

termal 4 peeps crashing hard

now to be serious the major reason why people do not get to that rank is because they retire, in fact people that get to brigadier general level are very powerful and connected people, most people retire at major general level.

they then graduate into peppersoup generals.

Even to become a high level general or even a low level general in charge of sensitive military facilities, it requires review and acceptance by the ruling politicians(senate/congress/president) if it is a military of a democratic governed nation..
Field marshal rank gives the military commander of that rank, marshal law powers which allow the commander to make the same military decisions as the president of a nation who fits as the commander in cheif... So a field marshal rank is only granted in extreme circumstances when the commander in chief (president or prime minister) is not effective at fufilling crucial war time command decisions that the fate of the nation and world depend on... It is never in the best interest of a free nation to have a field marshal ,as such a leader signals entry of the nation into a marshal law senario.. shocked

its impossible in Nigeria because of the world military organisation, field Marshall will have the right to control not only Nigerian military but to some countries so that's why is so difficult. why do you see america and Russia are so powerful today is because of that field Marshall cod if we have field Marshall in Nigeria I believe weapons will be producing in our country but Gen. Sani Abacha tried to be field Marshall during his time but eventually he died

Nice one there. But a colonel is referred to as a fairly high ranking or middle ranking commissioned officer and not a lower ranking as you said. The same also applies to a sergeant who is a middle ranking non-commissioned officer.

I also think there are three ranks of warrant officers and not two as you stated. Army warrant officer, master warrant officer and warrant officer. Nda cadets who entered through the regular and short service courses (army only) are made 2nd lieutenants. They are combatants.

Those that enter through the direct short service are non-combatants and are made 1st lieutenants.

Nda cadets are called officer cadets while other non-commissioned cadets are called cadets or recruits.

You also missed the rank of private. It is above recruit and below a Lance corporal.
