AfricanGod2: What exactly is the source of her renown as an economist. Can you mention one publication that justifies such high praise.I am not aware of any scholars referencing her as a scholar in any reputable journals. She was an administrator at the World Bank not an "economist" . The source of her "power" was her position not her person. Her position as Finance Minister. A power she has used destructively over the last 4 years like an out of control wild forest fire. She works for Nigerians and part of her role as finance minister is to attend the NEC. She is accountable to the NEC I do not understand what you mean by "stoop" ,A pilot in a plane has a responsibility to tell all passengers why the plane is vibrating or losing altitude .It is called responsibility. Her position is one of public service ,she is a public servant and some of her duties are statutory, they are mandated by law and do not amount to doing anyone a favour. In fact failure to perform statutory functions is criminal. What is troubling is that citizens still reason in such a subservient way. She is not an elected official but a mere appointee and is not in any way superior to an elected governor who is asking for an account of his state's money that she has responsibility for transferring to him 30 Likes 5 Shares |

I used to have lots of respect for this woman. This woman allowed corruption under President Stealing-is-not-corruption to rubbish her and bring low her ratings. If she was not personally benefiting from these mismanagement, she should have honourably resigned. Maybe Charles Soludo was right about her in his many public write-ups. I still wanna give her benefit of the doubt till I read her response to this. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

pyyxxaro: The summary is that so-called dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is a failure, incompetent, a fraud and a crook loved by her fellow criminals in whose blood crime traits flow. Thank God Oshiomole is not Yoruba. Over to the animals to run into her defence. They are a nauseating lot. 4 Likes |

On the question of oil theft, I can proudly say I was among those whose probing questions compelled NEC to set up a Committee to investigate the problem of crude oil theft. It became quite apparent in our interaction with security agencies that crude oil theft has indeed, become official. Some of the military officers confessed that whenever they apprehend oil thieves on the high sea, a telephone call from above would compromise all their efforts. This has shown that the government is the ones encouraging the crude oil theft from this revelation. Am also sure the government too must have being happy that subsidy wasn't removed from the petroleum products because they do collude with this marketers to defraud and make unnecessary claims to siphon money. This revelation just show how epidemic corruption have being to the government that is set to retire tomorrow. 3 Likes |

If the closing balance of the ECA as at December 2012 was over $10 billion and that for three years running Nigeria’s budget have been based on the average of between $77 and $79 benchmark while the average price of Nigeria’s crude has been $108 per barrel, suggesting an average of about $30 per barrel, how come that there was no accretion to the ECA?This has been the question on my mind for days now. If the average price is $108 and we have a benchmark of $79, it means we have $29 going into the excess crude account for every single barrel of crude oil sold. When you multiply this figure by the daily output/export which is put at about 3m barrels, and then by an average of 300 days, the monster in Jonathan's thieving government (corruption) is revealed in all its glory!!!! Lord have mercy. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Waspy: Yes they turned that patriotic petition into tribal umbrage not knowing that that single young man is worth more that thousands of them. He towers above them in intelligence and common sense. On hindsight, i suspect she may have paid Yale university for that award in order to launder her worthless image knowing full well that the institution is for the highest bidder and lacks integrity. 5 Likes |

OAM4J:I have said it and I'm reiterating it, this woman is a bigger crook than Alison Madueke. Just do a little maths on the figures and see what a ride Nigerians have been taken on. @Lalasticlala: don't you think this deserves bigger coverage sir? 4 Likes |

omonnakoda: Some citizens reason in subservient way because responsibility and accountability are alien to them. They would rather celebrate criminals and fraudsters. The other day an organ representing them asked Gej to release Rev King the murderer. That should tell you their warped sense of reasoning. 6 Likes 1 Share |

omonnakoda: “Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is a heroine not just of Nigeria, but of the entire continent. Her crusade against corruption has put her life at risk.” — The Independent (UK) People become renowned for things other than scholarly articles, and someone who graduated magna cum laude from Harvard has no business being mentioned in a discussion about her professional credibility.
Let me refresh your memory regarding the constitutional "responsibilities" of Dr Okonjo Iweala. The Federal Executive Council According to the constitution. "The Cabinet of Nigeria is the Executive Branch of the Government of Nigeria. The Cabinet members are appointed by the President and report to the President. The Cabinet oversees 19 Federal Ministries, each responsible for some aspect of providing government services, as well as a number of parastatals (government-owned corporations)." Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala is a member of the FEC and so is not answerable to Adams Oshiomle or any other governor, and as a member of the FEC she is not expected to prepare or give slide presentations to any governors. She is also a member of the NEC, however the NEC is not a body she is mandated to attend by the Constitution. It is more or less an advisory body and a means to foster communication between the states and the federal government, but this is what things have been like since 2014: "The National Economic Council is one of the federal executive councils designed to serve as a clearing house for economic issues between the states and the federal government. Even as strategic as this body is, of recent, it's been submerged in politics, as its monthly meeting has not held since August 2013 following the division of the Nigeria Governors' Forum. How do we rescue this body from the quagmire of politics in view of its importance. Join us at 1pm on Focus Nigeria." - AIT Now tell me why a lady with so little time will waste it on preparing "slides" and "lessons" for a council of members that won't even attend meetings. Finally, you mentioned something about state governors asking for their state's money and mentioned that Okonjo is not superior to governors. I just want to say that I agree she should give an account of the handling of Nigeria's finances, but constitutionally she has no responsibility to give this account to governors. Moreover governor's, who supposedly have superior authority to the finance minister are too subject to the minister's decisions to be really considered superior. The fact is that until governors can't do without relying on the hard work of the federal government vis-à-vis revenue from federal agencies then they should shut the hell up and stop complaining. So far it's only the likes of Oshiomle and Amaechi who can't pay salaries that are complaining. 3 Likes |

AfricanGod2: Your exact words are that she is a "world renowned economist". Now to the best of my knowledge she is not an economics scholar and has not held a job as an "economist" so what was the theatre where this renown was garnered Graduating magna cum laude from Harvard has nothing to do with professional credibility . One is about "ACADEMIC" ability and nothing to do with integrity which is what credibility is all about. One is historical and the other is contemporary . That you have an IQ of 200 is irrelevant to ability to DO A JOB I think your point about the National Economic council is meaningless. The council exists and is mandated by the constitution. H - National Economic Council 18. The National Economic Council shall comprise the following members - (a) the Vice-President who shall be the Chairman; (b) the Governor of each State of the Federation; and (c) the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria established under the Central Bank of Nigeria Decree 1991 or any enactment replacing that Decree. 19. The National Economic Council shall have power to advise the President concerning the economic affairs of the Federation, and in particular on measures necessary for the co-ordination of the economic planning efforts or economic programmes of the various Governments of the Federation. Coordination between the states and FG relates most importantly to transferring payments from the Federation account. This should be done by the CBN and NOT the Minister of Finance. The PDP distorted this The Minister of Finance is not supposed to be there by the constitution but became involved when the government started flouting the constitution so do not distort facts or history. The constitution does not allow the operation of the so called Excess Crude Account and if this account was not being operated then there should be no need for the Minister of Finance to attend rather it is the CBN governor that should. What should happen is government sells oil and collects other receipts directly into the Federation account and makes deductions for debts/guaranteed loans and remit the difference. But because of FG high handedness this arrangement came about so to say she has no responsibility to the governors is absurd. If you are ignorant find out the history of how many times the governors have taken the FG to court to release their money and how this funny arrangement came into being. The FG WITHHOLDS their money illegally and this would have been settled long ago but for PDP manouevres. Otherwise the courtd would enforce the constitution and the money will come to the governors from the CBN directly without touching her hands 6 Likes 1 Share |
