The amnesty programme in the Niger Delta is due to end in December, but the Government intends to invest heavily in the projects, and programmes currently in place. I call on the leadership and people in these areas to cooperate with the State and Federal Government in the rehabilitation programmes which will be streamlined and made more effective. As ever, I am ready to listen to grievances of my fellow Nigerians. I extend my hand of fellowship to them so that we can bring peace and build prosperity for our people.

The quoted part lean towards sustainability of the programme. . . . . .

This is a good move from the General. Niger Delta Amnesty Program is a big aid to stupidity, terrorism and laziness as been exhibited by the South-South youths today.

I take it that, among other measures, the days of lackadaisical and lackluster State and Local Governments are over. I can foresee a situation when a non-performing State Government or Local Government is taken over by the Federal Government. This is most welcome and will move Nigeria forward with the speed of a missile.

Whoa, you people like dreaming sha.

I am a hard core Niger Delta guy and will not support the kind of amnesty program that has made Kingsley Kuku and some of those brigands billionaires and yet the main people who need this help are getting nothing.

That amnesty program should end NOW! Our youths are damn too lazy and laziness and brigandry should not be supported.

U guys r getting it wrong.....Amnesty 4 Niger Deltans was DUE to end by December...
It wasn't Buhari that fixed the date....
Even if it was GEJ that won, it will still end by December....
The only difference would have been, if it was GEJ he may have renewed it....but in this case of falling oil prices nd Economy..I think GMB is making a right move..

What's wrong with so many pple on NL why are we so ill informed people on NL, the Amnesty programme itself had a 2015 date right from the beginning, even Kuku has called for it to end and another programme or something else be put in place.

I hope these guys won't go about stockpiling arms now they have known the deadline. On a lighter note, what if he stops Niger Delta Amnesty payment in December , and starts Boko Haram Amnesty payment from January gringrin . I wish him well

I heard it will end in June, seems he just extended it. Hopefully he will make some changes before then.

Before we misinform Nigerians and start insulting ourselves, the amnesty programme even before Buhari took over, was scheduled to end this year 2015 just that some have been hoping and pushing for an extension. Go to their website or check google. What seems obvious now is that Buhari won’t extend it. So it’s not as if he has fixed a new end date. He has only affirmed it. I am sure his government will engage stakeholders and come up with strategies to develop the Niger Delta. Having said that, I think we should begin to look beyond the amnesty and begin to demand accountability from all the Niger Delta State Governors for the huge money they get as 13% derivation. We need to also ask the Ministry of Niger Delta to account for the huge votes it gets to develop the region. And then there is NDDC which gets more money that some States! It can’t be business as usual.

How do you mean? They have their proposed plans for Niger Delta already. So, let wait and see if it will benefit them or not.

Afterall, the amnesty money is only getting to only view militants, what about the more population of the Niger Delta people. If there's any benefit for the Niger Deltans, it should be benefits for all and not only benefit for the few.
