This is why people don't report things to the police.
Consider a case where you report the theft of your property, the police can turn around to say that you stole your own property and then just came to make a report especially if they have no suspect to hold responsible.

Nigerian police force should be pulverized. You don't jail someone without evidence. What are their evidence of his involvement in the crime?. In a developed world, CCTV would prove his innocence and subsequent identification of the culprit and his arrest. Actions like this is going to deter people from helping those in a crime scene who need help.
