The Rivers state House of Assembly has paved the way for the state Governor, Nyesom Wike, to dissolve the local government councils reconstituted by the former Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, six days to the end of his tenure.

The assembly, in its sitting on Monday, declared the May 23 council elections in the state illegal and passed a resolution directing the state governor to dissolve the state Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

The assembly also directed the governor to sack the state Judicial Service Commission (RSJSC) for its role in the protracted crisis in the state judiciary.

The resolutions came after principal officers of the RSIEC and RSJSC appeared before the lawmakers following their summons.

Twenty-nine out of the 32 members of the 8th Assembly took the resolution after grilling the officers for hours, about their activities in the commissions.

Speaker of the House, Ikuinyi Ibani, who stated that the assembly would remain "thorough, fair and clear in its proceedings", divided the House after the submissions of the Leader, Martins Amaewhule, and his deputy, Lolo Denabari, that the officers violated their oaths of office.

Ibani cautioned: "There are certain things you don't have to let to occur while you hold a position of trust. It is my belief that any decision we take on the floor of this chamber is true and in the best interest of the state. It is not witch-hunting. The documents we have showed a different thing. We must deepen democratic values as lawmakers.

"Going by the resolution of this House, we do resolve that the Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, is hereby given the power to remove the members of the Rivers State Judicial Service Commission (RSJSC) from office.”

What else were Wike's ex militants expected to do?

quotasystem:
Among those who will be making laws for the oil-rich state are Farah Dagogo, an ex-general of a dreaded militant group.

Mr. Dagogo, an indigene of Tombia community was dragged into the race by the Degema Political Front, a frontline political group and he will be representing Degema State Constituency in the assembly.

Adoki Tonye Smart, who will be representing Port Harcourt 11 State Constituency in the new assembly was a former field commander and second in command to Soboma George.

Late Mr. George was a dreaded militant leader who was shot by a rival gang in the Old Port Harcourt Township, months after he accepted the government’s amnesty.

Chisom Promise Dike, who won the Oyigbo State Constituency seat in the assembly, is a strong ally of Ateke Tom, a self-styled General of the erstwhile Niger Delta Vigilante Forces.

The same way Amaechi will dissolve Wike's governorship at the end of the tribunal sitting.

I doubt very much that the Rivers States House of Assembly has the power to order the dissolution of the LG. Methinks only the courts are empowered to do that. I may be wrong....

Im too worried that my fellow PDP supporters do not reason before they comment ot jubilate.
For Gods sake neither the Houseor Wike has the powers to dissolve the LGA Chairmen. Only the courts can do this.
It pains me that instead of the PDP supporters to prevail on wike to begin to work and put Amaechi or probing aside for now since there is a petition at the tribunal.
we all know that in less than 30days the tribunal will give judgement.
The only means wike can gain sympathy and votes should the election be nullified is wikes performances now.
Wike has no more federal might. wike cannot control the police ormilitary anymore.
Dakuku so much loved by Rivers people and i smell there might be an allaince against the ikwerres.
I expect my fellow PDP supporters to talkless on any wike thread. rather we should prevail at wike to start performing now else i see APC taking over the state.
