Hello house, You guys on this thread are unsung heroes of foreign admissions. This thread is the Nigeria the media won't show you. ![]() I need your counsel. I have an admission into a postgraduate program in a US school for Fall. I just got my Form I-20. The source of funding stated therein is "Family Funds." Now, I've been recommended for a teaching assistantship by a professor (I've been in touch with) in the school & learned decisions would be made in the 2nd week of July. It's somewhat assured. Do I go on ahead and schedule a visa interview using the expected Form I-20 with "Family Funds" as means, or do I wait to be awarded the assistantship, then order a new Form I-20 that would reflect the teaching assistantship? (I've heard from some quarters that your odds of getting a visa is better when an assistantship is listed as your funding source as opposed to family funds.) Please help out. Thanks. |

Patient dog eat the fattest bone. It depends on Your eagerness & school resumption Date. Bare in mind assistantship is no visa guarantee but u most likely have a 90% chance, a friend of mine got denied this January with full tuition waiver & assistantship (I've heard from some quarters that your odds of getting a visa is better when an assistantship is listed as your funding source as opposed to family funds.) Please help out. Thanks.
|

bbdd:loool they are actually priests or clergymen, knew a priest that was denied 3 times on the fourth time they gave him, most don't take a penny to the states lots of families foundations giving out monies for them to be an exchange priest to further studies on philosophy & theology or other courses |

wynaskawai:Inquire from the school if they can help with compressing the transcript to 3 pages. You can offer to foot the bills for the work if it seems they reluctant, though you can always send the transcripts the way you currently have it. You only need make sure its arranged properly. |
Thanks. [/quI realizedte] You're welcome. I hope you have called the school for the I20 for the F2 Visa by now. One more thing though... In my previous post I said that you and your dependent will have the same sevis number. I was wrong about that. I had to clarify with a friend's. And I see that everyone including me assumed it was the same sevis number because both forms are identical (almost). The differences in the I20's are 1. The name on the I20 2. The sevis no at the top right side of the form 3. The designation or title above the sevis numbers. Yours will bear student's copy and the other, dependent's copy. |

bbdd:The department gets their yearly budget first week in July and makes assistantship decisions in the following week. My professor of interest is the chair of graduate admissions and is interested in having me work with him. He gave me the assurance that I secure it. Like I mentioned earlier, the decision would be made in the second week of July. Are you advising that I wait till then, so I can order a fresh Form I20, before booking a visa interview? |

igbonerd:remember u will receive the new i20 by the 3rd or 4th week in July and that might be late if anything goes wrong on ur interview as per reapplying for another interview. Am not being pessimistic sha, jst for u to see all possible scenarios |

ddbluv:Congrats bro Please did you send your sister's SOA and yours to get I-20 ? Who did you fill on "Person/Entity Paying for Your Trip" on DS-160 form: self/Family? |

buzibiza:I appreciate your response, man. So you advise that I should carry on with booking a visa interview using the I20 that has "Family Funds" as my means? |
| Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 7 by Nobody: 2:03pm On Jun 11, 2015 |
igbonerd:Go ahead with your interview. I don't see you having issues with your visa as you sound smart. Book your interview for 3rd week of July, if they eventually award you the assistantship your professor can send you a scanned type written document to that effect you can take to the embassy. I did same and didn't have any problem, it worked better for me knowing I was going to work with a professor who is also my Graduaye Cordinator. |

igbonerd:Wait for the new i20 then. But know you'll be on a very short leash for sevis fee payment, visa appointment etc. I suggest you pre arrange those so you don't waste time. |

o boy me sef i confuse i tried thinking of what to say but i knew that no matter what i say about a school, there are other schools which also offer or have that also. As my turn was approaching and it became evident that i may be interviewed by him, i shifted to the side of the line so that if he calls, i could tell the lady behind me to go that i want to arrange my documents
