The OP is right about his careful observation. But we don't seem to get something right at all: Buhari needs to improve his communication skills,at least that should excite a considerable decrease in his Fulani Accent. There is one prominent Nigerian leader,in fact his kinsman,to emulate : Alhaji Abubakar Balewa.

Why Balewa? That he was a vocal and stylistic orator. You could hear some strong Churchillian accent(Wiston Churchill)in his voice and his oratory gait admits of no comparison. The very first time I heard his speech I was amazed at his ability to do the British accent fairly well and I think that might have earned him the ALIAS: the golden voice of Africa.

And,I humbly think that a slight British accent will be cool(only if he is willing to receive some lessons). There has got to be a change on his part with regards to his speech.
Anyway,GOD BLESS our president and our country.

Makweembo:
I watched on SABC today when President Buhari addressed the congress at the African union.

His accent is ... terrible! I could barely understand what he said.

Even when the camera showed clips of the other delegates, they looked confused as Buhari was talking. And he had to stop every few minutes to drink water before reading further.

I admire Buhari's record but surely, he should be a figure helping government behind the scenes - and not a leader at the forefront. Most people would even need a translation of what he said to understand - the Hausa accent is so thick!

What do others think?
only an ibo boy can write this. If you can't understand what he's saying, the lagoon is good for you

Ur dad should have used a condom and this country would have been saved from having a nitwit like u as her citizen. Oloriburuku eranko jati jati angry

You guys are so quick to call ur leaders name or ridicule them all in the name of freedom of speech. Ban Ki moon (UN secretary) has worse accent than PMB, Putin has worse accent than PMB, Morocco king is far worse yet their citizens are proud of them all but here, we look for any opportunity to bring down our own Leader for no meaningful reason.

Some parents really did a bad job raising their kids.....

yes,he's heavily accented that I don't understand what he says at times but op let me ask you a question, are you perfect? Don't you have your flaws? He's heavily accented but has led more sectors than any Nigerian leader even with his accent which means that leadership is not about accent

Is he the only one with accent there? No.

Is the OP fighting inferior complex? Yes.

We must be tolerance of other people's culture. There is no difference between your accent and any other tribe in Nigeria. If you don't have British accent, why condemn others?

Even Englishmen find it laborious understanding Scotsmen.

Accent means nothing to me. What matters is your performance.

And to think u r a woman shows a innocent man will suffer from a bad wife in d future.

Now to ur answer. Have u heard Soludo speak? His ibo accent is so thick and so other many Nigerians. How ever, my anger is not the accent issue but the recent ways Nigerians now derive joy in calling their leaders name forgetting how they will feel if such is done to their parents. Messages can be passed across by mere subtle words without name calling..

but u were very active and happy calling gej all sorts of names from drunkard ,retarded ,clueless and even slowpoke, you even made jest and called his wife sheppotetamus or whatever and called her all sorts of names anytime she makes a grammatical error, so what stops buhari from receiving similar insults in full measure huh? Well whether u like it or not ,buhari is a big disgrace to this nation by referring to a nation as west germany in 2015 almost 30yrs after the walls came down. He should bring his street light neck and sit down in nigeria ,and allow his principal officers do the traveling if he can't express himself very well to the global audience. I don't think u know that each moves he make is been scrutinized and accessed by other world leaders and drinking of water every 5minutes shows lack of confidence. Even as old and sick as mugbabe is ,he doesn't drink water every 10minutes , abi buhari dey sickhuhhuh?

That doesn't have anything to do with this. Buhari IS speaking English. And it's not like he's struggling with 'big' words. It's just his accent we are discussing now. And that's colored by the first language he learnt to speak.

I view this type of unimportant criticism as trivial, coming from those who are not intelligent enough to challenge our President on more weighty issues like security and the economy.
