Guys, pls I need schools not under uni-assist that I can send application to and only schools that accept letters from minstry of education or higher institutions as prove of proficiency in English. I applied 2 schools under uni assist and don't want to put all my hope on just 2. Maritime courses if possible, but I don't mind other courses that is less competitive. Or any school I can apply for masters with HND.
HND for masters, I doubt. your best bet is undergraduate..

my opinion tho. let d ogas come and talk.

U don't need admission letter to get sponsorship letter. What is needed 4 sponsorship letter is ur passport data page, and that of ur sponsor, and ur sponsor's financial statement and 25 euro.

I know some schools make their decision between 3-6 weeks after deadline. This is 3 months!!!.. Ma'am to be very honest.. Move on to your alternatives and just keep that school aside. Put it at one small corner of ur mind. Because right now slots for visa appointments are on already.

I used a sponsorship letter and in my case it was required of my sponsor to present my admission letter. It might differ from state to state just as the time it takes differs.

Have always wanted to share my experience here but time as always been an enemy. sorry for the long epistle in advance.

A

It all started when I was in final year, I have an uncle who stays in Germany but very frequent in Nigeria, he kept telling me about Germany’s free education and opportunities even though he doesn’t know much about the student admission/visa thing, he was able to get me acquainted with www.daad.de.

The ASUU (dis ppl sabi kill person dreams I swear) strike of 2013 stopped me from applying as my result couldn’t be approved on time hence, unable to get hold of my transcript. I was mobilized for service November 2013 and by May 2014, I have all documents at hand to start application.

I applied to three schools (MSc Economics which are restricted admissions) outside uni-assist and got early decisions from two schools which were rejections stating competition was stiff, I almost lost hope but by august ending I got admitted to the last school. Filled with joy I contacted my uncle who has promised to help with the sponsorship letter unfortunately, he was out of Germany on biz to the UK and won’t be back until 2weeks time, I was not worried at all as I know he was going to get me the letter once he is back in Germany. In the main time, I proceeded to the embassy’s website to acquaint myself with the procedure/required documents, I started reading more about my school and Germany.

P.S. have not even come across this thread on nairaland as at this time.

During the course of finding more info on the internet, I came across this thread, I was so excited that a thread like this exist, I have loads of questions begging for answers, after reading a page on the thread I asked my first question in a naïve manner which most newbies on this thread do, I got a harsh welcome from some of the oga at the top here (abi dat 1 go discourage me? kojo) while some were nice enough to answer my question and advised I read the thread from pali to pali which I did, was able to handle the whole ish well and in no time, everybody moved on . While doing this, two weeks was over, I got the letter from my Uncle (….hmmmm finally).
I scanned all the necessary documents, attached it in an email stating my resumption date, lecture commencement and enrolment deadline and send it to the embassy to book me an appointment. I got a reply 24hours later that I have been booked for October 28th, 18 days after my enrolment deadline (haaa 28th ke? Embassy una wicked oooo) I replied the embassy with the speed of light restating my enrolment deadline and tried to make the embassy understand the date will not work for me. Few minutes later, I got a reply saying “there are no early dates. Kindly contact your school for extension of enrolment”, forwarded the mail to my school and got a reply almost immediately granting enrolment extension till 30th of October (oga ooo, that will be two days after my interview), also, stating that’s the best they could do. I sent this to the embassy which maintained no early date Sir (Sir sef don join the matter), at this point I was so weak, devastated and emotionally down. I sent series of email to the embassy trying to convince them why I should be given an early day (abi den don gree niii, German embassy!!! So principled) and my school to please extend my enrolment deadline till november (4whr? Yet den no gree mak I defer my admission, den say mak I re-apply 4 next winter semester. Chaii dat sch wicked well well). At this point, the reality of what just happened griped me (dreams of starting Masters immediately after service – scattered, fear of sitting at home after service searching for job et al, question of what next?). All these happened between 2nd week to 20th of September and I was carrying my sponsor along about every development.

After a week of been moody and down, I put myself together, picked up my laptop and I begin to search www.daad.de for schools that admit in summer semester, was fortunate enough to come across a course in a school which admit during the summer semester only, it also has September 30th as it deadline (dat 1 sef strange). I checked the course out, was convinced both myself und the course are good for each other, wrote a powerful motivation letter and I send the application. P.S. I was able to beat the deadline because my sponsor already has my certified documents, I only filled the application form, send it to him through email, he signed it for me because he could sign my signature and sent the application. By 2nd week in November, I was offered admission and with Usain Bolt’s speed, I booked appointment with the embassy (once bitten twice shy na) using my previous sponsorship letter and new admission letter, in no time I got booked for same day the following week (I come de wonder say no b dis same ppl gimme 6weeks interview date b4 come gimme 1week interview date so).

I came to Lagos a day before my interview, slept at a family friend’s house close to the embassy. On 27th of November, 2014 I woke up as early as possible, get ready and I got to the embassy as early as 6.30am for my 8.00am interview, I was so early that I had to wait in the car till 7.00am before approaching the embassy. By 7.30am I was inside the embassy, had no issues with consular1 (the igbo man at the entrance) because have read about him here so, I did all the needful so as not to have any issues with him. On getting inside, I realized there are just two of us for student visa (myself and a reverend father going for PhD), a young woman for family re-union and the rest were for business/tourist visa. After like an hour inside the embassy, the Asian looking German woman came to attend to the three of us, she collected our application, visa fee and said she will get back to us.

While waiting for her return, the young woman for family reunion started chatting me up, asking me questions and telling me how much I will enjoy studying in Germany stating she has been to Germany more than 10 times, we were chatting as if we’ve known for ages (I neva see dat kain person b4) she took the pressure of having an interview off me completely. During the course of chatting, the Asian looking woman was back and has started interview with the reverend father. In 20minutes they are done and it was my turn.

ME: Good morning ma’am
VO: Good morning

VO: WHEN IS YOUR SCHOOL RESUMING?
ME: April

VO: HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT THE SCHOOL?
ME: My uncle got me acquainted with the website of German Academic Exchange Service

VO: YOU MEAN DAAD.DE?
ME: Yes, checked out schools and course but decided to settle for this particular school and course.

VO: OK. DO YOU KNOW ABOUT LIFE IN GERMANY? TELL ME
ME: Yes. Life in Germany is an open one and speaking the language makes life easier (I only said something, don’t know the right answer to such question as at then)

VO: CAN YOU SPEAK GERMAN?
ME: No but I will be starting a German class on Monday at the university of Ibadan, department of European studies.

VO: HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO GERMANY OR EUROPEAN COUNTRY?
ME: No

VO: TELL ME ABOUT YOUR COURSE?
ME: It’s a 20modules course with six compulsory, 13 selective modules and master’s thesis

VO: MENTION THE 20 MODULES
ME: I told her more than 10 modules and told her that have mentioned the compulsory six and some electives and that’s all I can remember now.

VO: HOW MANY SEMESTERS/YEAR IS MY COURSE?
ME: 3semesters/18months

VO: WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT GERMANY?
ME: Germany is in Europe with capital as Berlin, the German president is Joachim Gauck, chancellor is Angela Merkel, Germany population is approximately 82.7million making it the populous in Europe after Russia and have 16 federal states and Germany is bordered to 9 countries. Germany has the largest national economy in Europe, the fourth-largest by nominal GDP in the world. Germany Practice Federal Parliamentary System of Government, the country is a founding member of the European Union. The service sector contributes around 70% of the total GDP, industry 29.1%, and agriculture 0.9%. I kept talking till she cut in.

VO: HOW MANY COUNTRY BORDERS GERMANY? MENTION THEM
ME: Mentioned the 9

VO: HOW MANY STATES DOES GERMANY HAVE? MENTION
ME: 16 federal states, mentioned like 10 and told her I can’t remember the rest

VO: WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT BERLIN?
ME: Berlin is Germany's capital and largest city; it is the home of popular football club Hertha Berlin Sport-Club, it is home to the federal government and parliament. The city has a population of over 3.5 million and the scope of academic discourse in Berlin is vast with 3 universities, 4 art academies, 7 universities of applied sciences and a number of research institutions.

VO: TELL ME MORE
ME: That’s the little I know about Berlin

VO: ARE YOU DONE WITH NYSC/WHEN?
Me: I told her when

VO: WHAT DID YOU STUDY IN UNDERGRADUATE?
Me: Told her

VO: WHEN DID YOU GRADUATE?
Me: I told her

VO: WHY THE COURSE OF STUDY?
Me: I discovered my strength is in economics right from secondary school. I have always wanted to be an economist and studying economics at undergraduate level isn't enough to qualify me as an economist. I seek the optimal preparation to contribute to Nigeria’s future (it saddens my heart to see Nigeria the way it is today, a country so blessed with numerous natural resources and man power yet undeveloped), to help her unstable economy and further work on the challenges she is presently going through in the area of development.

VO: WHY DO YOU CHOOSE TO STUDY IN GERMANY?
Me: Germany is well known as the largest national economy in Europe, the fourth-largest by nominal GDP in the world and studying economics in such huge economy will me achieve my goals, Germany education increasingly stands for innovation, internationality and strong support for research. The high quality and low cost of education in Germany includes the reason I choose Germany.

VO: CAN THIS COURSE BE STUDY IN NIGERIA?
ME: Yes but studying this course in Germany will give me alot of edge, as education in Germany is very intensive, highly ranked, practical and research oriented unlike in Nigeria where it’s more of theory and unstable academic calendar affects studies.

VO: WHAT DOCUMENTS DID YOU SUBMIT TO THE SCHOOL BEFORE THEY GRANTED YOU ADMISSION?
ME: Application Form, Proof of English Proficiency, Transcript, Statement of Result, CV, My Undergraduate Project Summary, Letter of Reference and Letter of Motivation.

VO: WEAC/NECO RESULT?
ME: It was not required by the school

VO: OK. WHAT DOCUMENTS DID THEY SEND TO YOU IN RETURN?
ME: Admission Letter, Enrolment Guide with includes Letter of Acceptance.

VO: DO YOU PLAN TO RETURN BACK TO NIGERIA AFTER STUDIES?
ME: Yes, to come and contribute my own quota of the international and development economics knowledge I will acquire in Germany to Nigeria here. I have the professional dream of someday being a major player in decision making with respect to implementation of public oriented economic policies in developing countries, especially Africa, My ideal job would be to lead Nigeria, the oil rich nation to where she belongs in the league of developed economy.

VO: SO WHERE WILL YOU WORK WHEN YOU ARE BACK?
ME: Federal Ministry of Finance, Central Bank of Nigeria, ADB, World Bank or UNDP

VO: YOU MEAN YOU ARE NOT SURE OF WHERE EXACTLY?
ME: Yes, but any of the mentioned will be perfect for me

VO: WHAT IS ADB AND UNDP?
ME: Africa Development Bank, United Nations Development Programme

VO: What will you be working there as?
ME: Policy Analyst

VO: WHO IS FUNDING YOUR STUDIES?
ME: My Uncle.

VO: WHO IS YOUR SPONSOR?
ME: My Uncle

VO: WHAT DOES HE DO?
ME: He is an Engineer

VO: WHERE DOES HE LEAVE?
ME: Ibbenburen (with Nigerian accent)
VO with a straight face probably because I murdered the name of the city (she corrected my pronunciation)

VO: WHERE WILL BE LIVING IN GERMANY
ME: Berlin, in one of the student hostel

VO: HAVE YOU APPLIED?
ME: Yes, I am awaiting placement

VO: WHAT IS SPONSPOR’S FULL NAME
ME: X Y Z

VO: WHERE HE WORKS
ME: XYZ Technologie
VO checking all I was saying about my sponsor from the sponsorship letter

VO: HOW MUCH DOES HE EARN MONTHLY?
ME: hmmmm…… I don’t know how much he earns exactly

VO: are you not concerned, he will be sponsoring you, don’t you think you should know? (with a straight face)
ME: I am concerned; I spoke to him about the sponsorship in January when he was in Nigeria and he told me he would find out when he gets to Germany to know if he is eligible. Few days after he got to Germany he called that he earns enough to sponsor me and he is willing to sponsor me. It’s not Nigerian-like to tell people how much you earn, sometimes wives don’t know how much their husband earns monthly.

VO: with a soft smile HOW LONG HAS YOUR UNCLE BEEN IN GERMANY?
ME: squeezing face…. Like a decade ago, can’t remember precisely

VO: OK (like person wey she don tire for my matter) WHATS THE RELATION BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR SPONSOR
ME: I grew up knowing him as my uncle; he also lived with us while he was studying at XYZ University. His mother and my mother are of the same parent.

VO: THAT WILL BE ALL, WE WILL GET BACK TO YOU THROUGH EMAIL
She was about dropping her headset when I told her I have a clarification and a question.

ME: My primary school certificate bears my generational family name which I changed to my father’s name when I got into secondary school
VO: Well noted, since you included it in your former surname on the application form, it’s not a problem

Me: Ok, with a smile I asked talking about life in Germany, if it’s true Germans don’t joke with BEER.
VO: With a bright smile, wait to find out for yourself.

She dropped her headset and gave me back my passport. Her last response “wait to find out for yourself” gave me an impression that I did well in the interview. I walked out of the embassy with my head high (say even if den chop winch, I don dis collect visa)
P.S she asked some questions more that once and I made sure my answers were exactly the same. Also the interview lasted nothing less than an hour, maybe because I used sponsorship or because there are just 2persons for student visa that day.

Did i get the visa? to be continued when next i have time to write long epistle

@Adenjnr, good one, your write up was delivered with a captivating simplicity. Longest time!
@oye50, sorry I couldn't get back to you yesterday, I had one of those terrible days yesterday, those thieving ne'er-do-wells at Oshodi played a fast one on me early that morning carting away my wallets with almost 28k, ATMs, important I'd cards and things I haven't even had time to check, coupled with the lil fever I was stuck there for hours. Later in the day, one of my two alternatives school, Freiburg, Environmental Governance, sent me a rejection letter to cap up the already fantastic day. Citing that They had a lot of applications (over 200) for the limited 35 spaces, although I already knew that They will pick up first students that apply with DAAD scholarship (it's one of their programmes) and there is a quota for African students in the programme, but I thought my GP (4.25/5.00) and powerful motivation letter could give me an edge knowing that my Bsc. training doesn't give me room to apply for as many schools as I would wish though I became lazy after one admission.
The disappointment is behind me though, facing my interview now.
Who applied to TUM's Sustainable Resources Management? My docs got there more than a week after deadline yet they uploaded my application documents on their portal, with the caption "study requirements fulfilled", However, no decision yet regarding the scores and admission. it was not the original course I intended to go for. Save for the school's name and location I would choose my current school over the course.

apart from financial blocked acccount can i tender my sister who is an operations manager in one of the leading banks here in Nigeria as a sponsor?
Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by Nobody: 6:50am On Jun 16, 2015
Unless your sponsor resides in Germany and earns around/above is it 1500 or 2500 euros monthly he/she cannot be your sponsor.

Your sister lives and works in Nigeria, even if her monthly income meets the requirements her location does not.

You cannot 'tender' your sister as a sponsor.

The VO's are very smart. If ur sister can't help u in block account deposit its obvious she can't sponsor u.

Ow sorry. Oshodi is yet to change frm dis hurrible omen. I applied to TUM too Biomedicine and Nutrition. Same 'requirements fulfilled" I got online. I wrote to them. They pleaded to give dem some more time. That I'll hear frm dem from mid June. Is ur course 'aptitude test' required?
@oye50, hadassaheke, no wahala its one of those things jare..at least i no wound.....I think it should be aptitude because they will grade the, 800 word essay and also the motivation letter and CGPA as their basis for admission, although i have not followed the course much since after applying o..it was The "advanced automation and construction" course I originally wanted to go for only to receive a message later that the school will not offer the course again after I had written their required 5,000 word essay and motivation letter.
Have they uploaded your score on their online portal? They haven't done mine.

Good afternoon house...

Please help me out. I have a sponsor who is resident in stuttgart. My school is in Hanover. Is he qualified to issue a letter of sponsorship considering the distance between both states?

Thanks bosses.
