This is more like it.

I don't why African armies still buy tracked armoured vehicles.
Only tracks can go through certain types of thick wet mud and loose dry sand terrain. Experienced armies that fight outside dry land know that.

which is why the vast majority of armored vehicals bought by the Nigerian military during the war have been wheeled grin

MikeCZAR:
Tracked vehicles lack mobility.

They are heavily armoured.

Have you read about the "relentless pursuit tactic" which the mercinaries/PMCs used in Nigeria with their trained strike force?
Please don't mess up this thread with stories you cannot prove, there were no mercenaries in Nigeria, but PMC, yes, PMC for training.

Mercenaries are fighters, no South African mercenary fought in Nigeria as confirmed by Col. Eben Barlow. Don't mess up this thread with lies.

The PMC trained 120 men of 72 strike was was just an extra mobile infantry inside MRAP that can be wiped out by Boko Haram 14.5 mm and 23 mm gun Toyotas from 3 km away, the real defeat of Boko Haram is credited to Nigerian T-72 tanks with ERA armour, no weapon in Boko Haram arsenal was able to penetrate NA T-72 tanks

About 2/3 of Nigeria looks like perfect country for wheeled operations
There are mud plains in northern Nigeria and southern Chad. Paper maps are deceptive for vegetation analysis.

Your army will get stuck unless you do assault course terrain analysis for your AOR by scout/recce before you launch out for ops in real war.

I think its safe to say that the Chadians have proven that wheeled vehicles are perfect for the desert (Same with the SAS in WW2)

I agree, in swamps or jungles tracked vehicals are at a disadvantage - but then again, any vehical will be (tanks werent too popular withe the Americans or NVA during veitnam)

Wheeled vehicles are the way forward, speed, mobility and a small logistical trail (due to their high range) makes them amazing vehicals for operations in about 60% of the African battlespace

However, IMO, it is all about balance. Tracked vehicles are inevitable and wheeled vehicals are essential, so the balance struck is based on the geography you expect to operate in - and internal op's in Nigeria would largely be suited to wheeled vehicals.
These is Your chadian forces tht has proven/mastered wheeled vehicles in desert terrains ?
Have said modern tracked vehicles comes with a powerfull turbo engine, so that it will lift its weight .
Track vehicles are designed for all terrain enviroment and are more rugged and even mobile !

Tracked vehicles are slower, require more fuel and logistics in general and are harder to fix when they break down.

Wheels = High mobility

Tracks = Low mobility

Thats why the Americans started building Stryker Brigades and why practically all new IFV's are wheeled (Except for countries like Isreal or Germany who have unique needs)
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by stillchris:
This is what we are trying to tell @mikeza who believes he knows stuff but knows only SA.

Different climate

Different environments

Different requirements

Please sink that in when next you want to dictate what Nigeria should be deploying.

While wheeled mobility is fast and light (only for urban terrain with okay roads), tracked vehicles is better for most places in rural areas in Nigeria. We need both

Like you stated.. Israel and Germany still deploys tracked IFV because of their unique needs. So why not Nigeria or any other country with such conditions?

You'll get stuck. Especially in the rainy seasons.

Patches, Us is shifting to wheeled mobility because most of its military's AOR in it's current engagement will be suitable for it. But it doesn't mean they'll totally replace tracked vehicles.

You build what your military requires. That's the doctrine

Tracked vehicles became popular with the US army during the Vietnam war when they had to travel along mzuddy and marshy routs on patrols

You already know I'll tackle you on this grin grin western a5slicker grin grin

America fields what they require. Shouldn't be a yardstick for what others should do.

Environment also dictates military requirements.

Last I remember, after Vietnam, US army is not currently engaged in jungles or forest terrains with muddy/marshy roads.

This is not about patriotism. It about being objective in comparisons

In urban areas and towns.. Yes

In rural areas with less accessible roads.. BIg NO

Come to Nigeria during the rainy season and travel to the villages (like where boko haram is operating in the north). It's always terrible, you'll get stuck on wheeled vehicles.

We need both. We still have huge forests, jungles and riverine areas that a wheeled IFV has no business operating in.

Many photos have been posted already so I don't see any reason why you guys want to lecture us on what we live on.

I never said get rid of tracked vehicals - i even advocated for a brigade sized formation with tracked IFV's to be formed.

Germany and Isreal rely on tracked IFV's and APC's because Germans only fight in Germany and Isrealy's are only really preparring for urban conflict and both are either defensive or in small areas - meaning that logistics are not an issue (why do you think that the Americans dont have a simulacra vehical to the Namer?)

Neither are preparing for wars that are stretched out over hundreds of kilometers with poor supply and logistical infastructure

Track vehicles are faster than wheeled vehicles, 80% of the battles takes place in terrains like desert/water lodged areas so the track vehicle is the best choice and most fastest.
Your tracked vehicle should not be always on built roads/ashaphlt ?

Secondly american built strykers because they know 80% of the war they are going to fight will be an urban war fare so you don't need tracked armored vehicles .... Don't u get it ?
In nigeria here we are battling with enemy in the desert area and during raining season that sambisa is water lodged so what u need in such terrain is tracked vehicles !

When america invaded Sadam "operation desert storm how many wheeled armed vehicles did u see if u watched CNN very well, it was the abrams and bradley althrough !

Sniper rifle captured by Yemeni militia from Saudi forces. Senegal is considering fighting these guys, hence the relevance.

it is a russian ZSh-7 helmet and the Russian KM-35 oxygen breathing mask but the chinese made a copy called the helmet TK-12A and oxygen mask the YM-9925A but are strictly used in the chinese SU-27M and J-11 from what i have read.so the helmet used in J/F-7 is TK-14A helmet and the oxygen mask is a YM-16M.now the question is who is that pilot ? thanks for making me do that research wink

Go to the youtube or google pictures from USA "operation desert storm" or "Battle of 73 Easting" -read about it, only abrams and bradley armored tanks and vehicles where used so what pictures do you want unless if you don't have access to the internet !
You should stop showing the world of ur ignorance !
