Kano - Assailants suspected to be Fulani herdsmen hacked to death eight farmers in northeast Nigeria, police said on Thursday.

Around 30 machete-wielding assailants accosted the farmers on their way to their crop field in Sondi village in Wukari district of Taraba state, where deadly clashes between farmers and herders over grazing rights are frequent, police spokesperson Joseph Kwaji said of the Wednesday attack.

"From reports at my disposal some unidentified attackers hacked to death eight peasant farmers on their way to the farm in Sondi village on Wednesday morning," Kwaji said.

The victims included six men, a woman and a boy of around seven years.

"The attackers are yet to be identified because they fled the scene before the arrival of policemen but the area is known for clashes between herdsmen and farmers," Kwaji said.

Teams of anti-riot policemen have been deployed in the area to search for the attackers and to prevent reprisal attacks that could lead to large scale unrest, he added.

A mistake on my path.

Two persons were killed in a sea pirate attack in Calabar and Buhari embark on air bombartment of the total area covering the entire Calabar and Akwa Ibom, but the Fulani Millitants have taken more than dozens of innocent life without the president calling a press conference to condemn the act. Well, this indeed is the persecution Goodluck talk about while leaving office but am confident that our God will fight for us.

Fulani people are known to be hostile I accept that, but one thing I know is dat they don't attack without reason, both parties should check themselves... either one of d hausa farmers killed der cows or one of dem or maybe something we don't knw abt, der is always two sides to a story, my side and your side. full stop.
