Lady Kofo Ademola was the first black female and Nigerian woman to receive a degree from Oxford University.

She was born on the 21st of May 1913 and was the daughter of late Honourable Eric Moore, who was a member of the Colonial Legislative Council and Arabella Moore (nee Vaughan) who was German. She attended C.M.S Girls’ School and Portway College in England.

Later on, she gained admission into St. Hughes College Oxford University. She graduated with a B.A in English in 1935 making her the first Nigerian woman to graduate from Oxford University.

She was a teacher at Queen’s College Lagos from 1936-1938 and later on became the co-founder and principal of New-Era Girls’ Secondary School, Lagos. She was also a philanthropist and advocate for women empowerment

Lady Kofo Ademola was an educationist and a prolific author of children’s books. She was married to Sir Adetokunbo Ademola who was the first head of judiciary in Nigeria.
