Dear Justiwse and Vicjustice,

I would like to ask the below question:

My father inlaw is currently in US. on a visit, can he apply for an Irish visitor visa in the US?

Thanks

Not having any tie to US will be an issue, he should have applied from Nigeria

Hmmmm... its really frustrating. He's in the US on a visit to some of his children, but her daughter here wish to invite him and he will from here return to Nigeria. They're all working full time in the US and are ready to sponsor his trip to here for only one week or two weeks. What do you think Justwise? Also, generally is it allowed for a visitor in another country to obtain a visitor's visa while on visit?

Thanks

No, he is not eligible to apply for a visa from the US unless he is a citizen or he holds a residence permit: an ordinary visa does not qualify him for that.

Hi Vicjustice, i rang the Embassy of Ireland in Washington today, they gave me this number to ring 212 3192555 Consulate General of Ireland
in New York, i rang them so they transferred me to visa section, was on the phone with the officer for like 5 minutes, she said normally he need to apply for the visa in Nigeria before he travel to the US, she further said but yes he can apply for the Irish visitor visa in the US while on visit in US, she said but applicant that fall in this category must wait for at least 6-12 weeks for their visa application to be processed because they will have to send the application back to Dublin for processing.
