Nonsense, you just want to chop money, partner with Waze, there are existing traffic management applications here and there.

There are more people in lagos than London yet london doesnt rely on road useage alone for commute, lagos has no functional rail system which would take alot of people off the roads...strict road taxes and parking fines should be encouraged so people will learn to use public transport in the metropolis like other cites in the world...

And you forgot one very important one: introduce navigation software (e.g Google Waze). You're still using the analogue system (radio system) which is why many Nigerian Politicians think they know the problem but go to office and do rubbish especially with poor advisers who claim to know but don't know

Last time i was in Lag, from Ikeja Mall to Iyana Ipaja by 5pm, it took me almost 11pm to get home.

That was when i decided Abuja was home.

A city where you have to do Mathematics in your head before going out so as to avoid traffic.

it is called rush hour!
and the best solution for rush hour on iyanapaja-sango routes is an efficient bus route with enough buses.

The problem with Lagos is that there's hardly an alternative route to take when one route is congested.

Take Ikorodu for example, the only way you can enter Ikorodu is thru mile12 except you want to go thru Lagos Ibadan express way, which is also prone to congestion.

Let there be alternatives and the traffic will be greatly reduced.

Its more about alternative routes than the condition of the roads.

The easiest way to manage Lagos traffic lies in the waterways. The environment is grossly under tapped. The water that runs from mile two runs through Apapa to Cms to vi to Lekki phase 1 to Ikoyi to Ajah and to Ikorodu.....

You don't need to even allocate money for building roads...just get a federal licence to manage a state transport system and you allow private sector participation...you are good to go.

Once you create that alternative, the cars will reduce on the road and you have a smoother drive in Lagos...how come the commissioner of transport hasn't thought of this?
it is the same problem with the bus system.cost of ferry, maintenance and possible patronage.some people will rather be in holdup than on water.
Re: This Is How Ambode Wants To Solve Traffic Problem In Lagos by mrinsurer: 5:52pm On Jul 01, 2015
Government should introduce a legislation that will make it mandatory for commercial vehicles to have fitted air conditioner. This will mean automatic phasing out of danfo and moluwe buses from our roads and replacement with modern buses and taxis.
A dedicated NURTW community bank should be established that will take care of funding of purchase of commercial vehicles in the State.
The law that ban movement of heavy trucks in the day time should be enforced.
Only BRT will be allowed on the express roads and buses will ply inner city roads.
Government should create alternative roads to lessen traffic on hot spots.

lagos bus drivers constitute 60% of Lagos traffic.

they av turned the express and freeways to mobile park.

the traffic you see on Apongbon-CMS-VI route are caused by unscrupulous drivers that pick passengers all the way from apongbon to CMS.

they won’t just use the empty park provided fro them by state govt.

all these in front of LASTMA officials. angry

rajah ikorodu is not a ferry system ooo!
and you don't want danfo like pattern on water.
the inland water system. is a heavily protective scheme with guidelines that is why the state can't push for it like that

Chai!! Is this the best Ambode can come up with about solving Lagos traffic problem??The number one problem we are facing in Lagos as Lagosians??We are finished in Lagos!!
Even an average nairalander knows that this plan cannot work, hence they are proffering a better solution.
This is what you get when you allow tribal bigotry to becloud your thinking. It is becoming more obvious that Yellowbars made a terrible mistake in the last elections both at Federal and in Lagos state.

Ok.... But i see people wey still no get sense to know where to start from..... Person wey go do this needs more than enough alternative roads for commuters...

Question is: Even with the info, will commuters have alternative roads to go around the traffic? Smdh!!! Bad planners

Start by fixing roads first and creating various alternative routes and you wouldn't have to spend too much on Traffic Report Navi Systems....

Note: In other (Developed) countries, even with all that (Traffic Report Systems, Many Alternative Routes e.t.c) Traffic is inevitable

I see here another looter........

I dont know about the looting. But this is a very insightful line of thought that hits at the heart of problem.

ALTERNATIVE ROADS .

Here in Dallas, believe me the network of tarred roads in that city is magnificent. This is apart from the very effective light rail system that runs through the city in tandem with a timely public bus system called DART.

For every destination there are at least 5 different routes to get there.

As long as there are no ALTERNATIVE ROADS or other effective and convenient forms of transportation, like LIGHT RAIL the problem of congestion will continue.

Nice suggestions. In my opinion,

--Improving traffic radio 96.1fm will do nothing. Traffic Announcement should be left to any public or private radio operating in lagos.

--Increasing the number of LASTMA on the road. This move should be left alone the way it is presently. Increasing their number will only add more trouble in managing them and more overhead cost of running the agency. Can the LASTMA agency even sustain itself or they still depend on some relief from the State?

--Increase the number of CCTV....Lagos or Nigeria for that matter is not ready for this. We need to get a central and complete database of Nigerians first. Therefore, this may end up being a waste of money and already scarce resources.

-- Fix the potholes.
Yes, this should be left to the hands of LCDA'S and local Government. These guys should be held accountable for maintaining roads within their jurisdiction. So simple. We are talking accountability here.

--Take care of Danfo drivers! This is a social problem that has been around with us for quite a long time and it will take quite a while to erase or control the agbero mentality among these danfo boys. In my opinion, i think alternative to road transport (water ways, ferry) will make the agberos sit tight and approach driving on lagos road with a positive sense. It will not happen in one day, but surely their thinking will be re-wired once they realize that there is alternative to get around Lagos. There will be competition among danfo drivers and the waterway/ferry. Most and if not all these danfo drivers can not read or write. You just wonder how the navigation thing will work. Open up new or alternative routes. So simple and yet difficult to reason out by the government or ministry of transport.

--More fly-overs: both pedestrian and for vehicles - Lagos does not need a soothsayer to realize that this is needed as a matter of urgency of NOW or time immemorial. Lagos state government need to open up so many NEW industrialized places with carefully planned road network. Sometimes you just wonder what the town planning guys are doing?

Lastly, Commissioner of Transport. Whats up with you? You need freshh thinking and ideas and if you are not capable, then resign.
