Yeah. I understand he introduced tax collection from Lagosians under the two past administrations of Tinubu and Fashola undecided

In most of these cities he's talking about, the people have other means of commuting such as rail and water. Here, those are hardly developed.

Ambode doesn't look, talk or act like a politician. He reminds me of that Miliband fellow in UK.

guidelines that the state cant meet up wit?

you do realise a ferry system was functional in Lagos some years ago?
yes but had hitches
I am not saying it can not work but it has a lot to do with some other things like a working shipyard.
Re: This Is How Ambode Wants To Solve Traffic Problem In Lagos by delors(m): 6:29pm On Jul 01, 2015
No need for gra gra...fix the potholes, some junctions and adjoining points really need to be redesigned, then people should get real time maps - GPS- that tells of traffic congestion 5 - 7kms ahead, and suggest alternative route.
Simple!

Ok.... But i see people wey still no get sense to know where to start from..... Person wey go do this needs more than enough alternative roads for commuters...

Question is: Even with the info, will commuters have alternative roads to go around the traffic? Smdh!!! Bad planners

Start by fixing roads first and creating various alternative routes and you wouldn't have to spend too much on Traffic Report Navi Systems....

Note: In other (Developed) countries, even with all that (Traffic Report Systems, Many Alternative Routes e.t.c) Traffic is inevitable

I see here another looter........

God bless you. The alternative routes that will be shown by the gadgets and all are also blocked. Yes, we know that they are working on alternative means of transportation and that's a welcome development. Let's try the water ways and rails. Traffic radio is already doing what he wants to import equipments to do. Put lastma officials and police men in areas where commercial bus drivers cause traffic and commotion to aid free flow of traffic. I just see an avenue to embezzled funds by claiming to import equipments whose purpose have already been served.

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has set his sights on drastically reducing the traffic problem bedeviling the State by introducing a world class traffic information and management system.

The globally tested traffic system which has worked for many cities similar to Lagos may have caught the eye of the Governor who wants to see Lagosians spend less hours in traffic and more in their offices and at work, according to the State government.

Investigations have revealed that in the next couple of weeks, the governor will work with some experts to design a system that fits the Lagos traffic pattern.

Lagos is home to some of the worst traffic congestion in the world. Traffic congestion is a daily challenge in the metropolis with highly undesirable socioeconomic and environmental effects, increasing stress and pollution levels and reducing overall productivity. There is an urgency to decongest perennial traffic spots like the Third Mainland Bridge, Abule Egba, Apapa, Ojota and Dopemu.

The State says it will introduce a world class traffic information and management system. A smart network comprising of hundreds of cameras, road sensors and electronic displays have been specially designed to collect and deliver real time information to city commuters that will help regulate traffic.

Highly visible displays and a mobile phone application will flag highly congested hotspots, suggest alternative routes and estimate arrival times – all in real time, according to the traffic management blueprint.

The State government says it realises that information is power and is set to empower Lagosians with more traffic information ahead of time.

Ambode has also said he is confident of reducing the time spent in traffic, drastically improve each commuter’s quality of life and improve the city’s productivity as a whole. The Governor avers that in big cities of the world, traffic information systems have helped improve traffic flow to a large percentage.

Since he took over the reins, Gov Ambode has spent more time trying to solve the Apapa traffic conundrum and other traffic related problems in Lagos.

Even the best plans may not work without discipline.

I hope there is a plan for discipline as well.

There has to be a way of ensuring at least a 70% compliance with road rules.

Like some people said, why would danfo consistently stop in the middle of the road in view of lasma? Those lasma guys would need to either work or get fired.

Also, give them enough cars/bikes. Its always sad seeing them chase after offenders on foot, they arent cheetahs sad
Re: This Is How Ambode Wants To Solve Traffic Problem In Lagos by tuke: 6:41pm On Jul 01, 2015
Thoughtful way to work and chop big time. 96.1fm plus lastma are already doing this, so save the coins. What lagos needs is very simple: create/make useable access roads, commission the rails and water ways, decongest the island(e.g. build industrial parks in places like agbado, ikorodu.etc.)put danfo drivers in a corrective asylum, fix pot holes, above all, give us light and we are good to go. This is not New York, we think and work differently. Go check out China.
Case Study: Oshodi to Sango and back - major traffic problems arise from unnecessary pot holes, crazy bus-stops manned by all enforcement agents doing nothing plus touts and ultimately asylum bound danfo drivers. Fix that first.

Somehow his magic touch has solved the apapa traffic madness, we pray it will be a permanent thing.
He should give more support to the traffic radio 96.1fm
But that MAGIC has transferred the traffic to Lekki,VI, Ikoyi and TMB in the last few days; Ambode come to our rescue.

Lagos traffic problem won't ease until govt develop alternate means of transportation, such as rail and water transportation system. The road is congested, let govt encourage people to use other means of transportation and thus ease the burden on our roads.

To ease Lagos traffic, we may try the following:
1) Fix potholes (especially in the night)
2) Open up all access gates being closed or permanently locked by all Estates
3) Deploy effective, efficient and structured water transportation in all riverine areas: Oworonsoki, CMS, Mile 2, Apapa, VI, Lekki, Ikoyi, Ajah, Ikorodu, Badagry (work out the route order)
4) Retrain and change the Aluta orientation of Lagos road users especially the Danfo drivers, Keke Marwa riders (involve their Unions)
5) Ensure compliance with traffic regulations including but not limited to traffic light and right of way
6) Reduce the high concentration of Lastma and Traffic Wardens at some locations e.g. Outer Marina, Allen Round About and Excellence
Hotel - redistribute to other locations
7) Provide more Pedestrian crossings and enforce strict usage compliance
cool Traffic Radio and other Radio Stations to do more on sensitisation of good road culture
9) Mount CCTV in strategic locations
10) Staggered working hours or shift can help
11) Decongest some key government offices and Bank Head Offices from the Island
12) Companies should consider their Staff place of residence and allign with office (branch) posting

Abegi!!! make una spare us the stories! best way to reduce traffic is to discourage too many vehicles on d road. America can't do anything to heavy traffic in New York City.
Re: This Is How Ambode Wants To Solve Traffic Problem In Lagos by ocelot2006(m): 7:13pm On Jul 01, 2015
I STRONGLY suggest that Lagos copies London and New York: INVEST IN TUBE RAILS/RAIL NETWORK AND MARINE FERRY SYSTEM. Then encourage Lagosians to embrace these systems by making them far cheaper than personal vehicles. Not only will this decongest the already-stressed road network, it will equally reduce carbon emissions, this ensuring a more cleaner environment. Keep in mind that these systems will generate much funds for Lagos.

I still believe what could solve this perennial traffic logjam in Lagos is massive railway system. No matter how sophisticated this traffic information system Gov Ambode is proposing, it will not yield result without a massive and efficient railway system. The roads we have in Lagos are not just enough PERIOD!!

Build more ring roads, camera will lead them to where?

We are both on the same lane on this post. Camera to do lead them to where? Lagos lagoon I guess.
Let Mr. Governor open / repair more internal roads to reduce traffic on the major roads rather than spending several millions (if not up to billion) on procurement and installation of JUST a camera.

Only rail system can save Lagos from incessant traffic jam.

Abi oh. Instead of gearing all efforts towards the mass transit system initiated by Tinubu and advanced by Fashola he is leading us down the bush path in search of another white elephant. Isn't it easier to complete something than to start another. Is there any city the size of Lagos without rapid mass transit anywhere in the world. It is not rocket science.
