President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the Director General of the State Security Service, Ita Ekpenyong.
In his place, he has appointed Lawal Musa Daura as new head of the agency, which services as Nigeria’s secret police. The appointment was conveyed today in a letter by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Barrister Danladi Kifasi.
Lawal Musa Daura was born in Daura on the 5th of August, 1953. He attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1977 – 1980. He started his carrier in the State Security Service in 1982 and rose to the rank of Director.
He was at one time the Deputy Director Presidential Communication, Command and Control Centre at the Presidential Villa Abuja between 2003 and 2007. He also served as the State Director of Security Service at various times in Kano, Sokoto, Edo, Lagos, Osun and Imo States.
He attended various professional courses both home and abroad including the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, (NIPSS) Kuru.
The appointment is with immediate effect.

my guy, Lawal duara is not a career officer with the DSS. He was brought in from outside. so the issue of federal character should apply. If it was looking at the most qualified, then should have shortlisted from the career officers.

Nothing new here; Buhari is the most predictable President I have ever seen. He shouldn't be surprised when all these backfires.

APC wants Dogara to follow the party's list for the principal officers but Dogara is of the opinion that federal character won't be reflected if he follows the list. He said SW can't produce Deputy Speaker and House Leader while other regions are left out. My grudge is, will he accept PDP's list if it doesn't reflect federal character? That remain to be seen.

Take it or leave, we are not mature enough to eradicate federal character as we are too tribalist and sentimental. If PMB continues with this trend of appointing northerners, then he isn't different from his predecessors.

I pray we get to that level when we would elect or appoint people who are qualified irrespective of tribe and religious belief but for now, federal character can't be ignored.

I don't see the end of this challenge in sight because both APC plus Sarakill/Dogara can be likened to two parallel lines, they can't meet.

I sse Buhari gradually and systematically placing his trusted brothers ans men in strategic position bto forestall any uproar that may arise from his ministerial list which will definitely be the big surprise.
