The new head of the State Security Service,
Lawal Daura, appointed by President
Muhammadu Buhari, will act in that capacity
pending the appointment of a substantive
Director General, the Head of Service has said.
Mr. Daura was appointed Thursday by the
president after he fired the former DG, Ita
Ekpenyong, who is accused partisanship.

The first announcement from the Head of
Service, Danladi Kifasi, said President Buhari
appointed “Lawal Musa Daura as the new
Director General Department of State Security
Service”.
The statement, signed by Haruna Imrana, for
the head of service, said the appointment was
with “immediate effect”.

However, the Head of Service issued a second
statement late Thursday amid controversy over
the appointment, after it became clear the
president recalled Mr. Daura, his kinsman, from
retirement, ahead of other qualified personnel
still in the service.

“President Muhamadu Buhari has appointed
Lawal Musa Daura as the new acting Director
General Department of State Security Service,”
the statement said.

Neither statements acknowledged Mr. Daura
had left the service before his appointment.
PREMIUM TIMES reported Thursday that he
retired from the SSS in 2013.

Mr. Daura was born in Daura, Katsina state,
and was at one time the Deputy Director
Presidential Communication, Command and
Control Centre at the Presidential Villa Abuja
between 2003 and 2007.

He also served as the State Director of Security
Service at various times in Kano, Sokoto, Edo,
Lagos, Osun and Imo States.

Hope the acting DG has new ideas for dealing with Boko

Because somehow....the bombings make me wonder where our domestic intelligence gathering is. By now...our security agencies should have an idea about who Boko's bomb makers are...so that they can be stopped.

Let the new Director outline his strategy for Boko....and every other domestic threat Nigeria faces.

Nigeria will and shall defeat Boko.No matter how long ,or difficult the fight. But every fight requires changes in strategy and planning...when the old plans are not working.

even in as much as am a "sai baba fan", the confusion is gerin plenty. But i won't blame them much sha, cos they r just coming into democratic governance for the 1st time ever, they r like a new recruit in an organization, u can't just expect them to know everything at once, hence the reason for 3 months probation period in many organizations pending formal confirmation. so lets give it to them for now, at least the most important thing is they r taking to correction and that's an example of a govt that is willing to succeed.

Buhari, I think you should sack whoever has being advising you since May 29. That man/woman is ruining you faster than maggot ruins meat. The number of moves you've made in less than 5weeks are terrible and embarrassing, to say the least. You've moved Boko Haram terror suspects to the region that voted you the least and this has been interpreted to mean their punishment for not supporting you. You've allowed "your northern brothers" take up the entire arms of the federal govt. That has being interpreted to mean the so much talked about northern agenda. You've made lopsided appointments. You've miscalculated in almost everything we can think of. Your SOLE ADMINISTRATOR style of running the govt and its snail movement has grounded the country. Investors are loosing even in the stock market because of your confused and rudderless steps. I'm not a supporter of yours but I wont like the country to fail because a few 1diots foisted you on us.
If you're the one advising yourself all this while then you need to return to London so that your doctor will recommend new drugs for you especially for brain functions. Ekwusigom.
