We had this argument in class.If i want to introduce myself or put my name down...i make sure i call all my names before my surnames eg Bliss Atare Wilson but people say am wrong so to the house,am asking now,when introducing yourself or putting down your name on paper(except stated otherwise),which one comes first and why is it so??. BlissB:Like I said earlier.... It all depends on the usage, while in school as a student, your surname is what comes first.... Though you may be recognized by your first name.... I, however, feel that there is no hard and fast rule to it..... It varies..... Howdy dear..... Happy sunday... |

Actually Nigeria Identity Management Commission NIMC has described the correct order for personal data collection and storage for ease of retrieval and sorting. It is SURNAME, FIRST_NAME OTHER_NAME. That is the acceptable fornat for documenting everybody in all institutions from government to academics to Medicals and every platform. But in personal introduction and informal to less formal settings usually when surname may not be mentioned it is usually FIRSTNAME SURNAME. In order to differenciate these two formats to not confuse a data entry officer, a comma comes after the SURNAME if using the first instance format. |

SURNAME Firstname Lastname Surname, Firstname Lastname If the surname is not all in caps it is followed by a comma |
